1 T hey brought the special box of God, and put it inside the tent David had set up for it. Then they gave burnt gifts and peace gifts to God.
They brought in God’s ark, and set it in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
2 W hen David finished giving the burnt gifts and peace gifts, he prayed in the name of the Lord that good would come to the people.
When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in Yahweh’s name.
3 H e gave to every man and woman in Israel a loaf of bread, a share of meat, and a loaf of dried grapes.
He gave to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins.
4 D avid chose some of the Levites to do the work in front of the special box of the Lord. They were to be glad and thank and praise the Lord God of Israel.
He appointed some of the Levites to minister before Yahweh’s ark, and to commemorate, to thank, and to praise Yahweh, the God of Israel:
5 A saph was the leader, then Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel. They were to play harps. And Asaph played loud-sounding timbrels.
Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, with stringed instruments and with harps; and Asaph with cymbals, sounding aloud;
6 T he religious leaders Benaiah and Jahaziel sounded the horns all the time in front of the special box with the Law of God. A Song of Praise
with Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually, before the ark of the covenant of God.
7 T hen on that day David first called upon Asaph and his brothers to give thanks to the Lord.
Then on that day David first ordained to give thanks to Yahweh, by the hand of Asaph and his brothers.
8 “ O give thanks to the Lord. Call upon His name. Let the people know what He has done.
Oh give thanks to Yahweh. Call on his name. Make what he has done known among the peoples.
9 S ing to Him. Sing praises to Him. Tell of all His great works.
Sing to him. Sing praises to him. Tell of all his marvelous works.
10 H ave joy in His holy name. Let the heart of those who look to the Lord be glad.
Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh rejoice.
11 L ook to the Lord and ask for His strength. Look to Him all the time.
Seek Yahweh and his strength. Seek his face forever more.
12 R emember His great works which He has done. Remember the special things He has done and how He has judged,
Remember his marvelous works that he has done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,
13 O children of Israel His servant, sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!
you offspring of Israel his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
14 H e is the Lord our God. He is judge of all the earth.
He is Yahweh our God. His judgments are in all the earth.
15 R emember His agreement forever, the Word which He gave to families and a thousand of their family groups to come.
Remember his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,
16 R emember the agreement He made with Abraham, and His promise to Isaac.
the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac.
17 T o Jacob He made it a Law to be kept, as an agreement forever to Israel.
He confirmed the same to Jacob for a statute, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
18 H e said, ‘I will give the land of Canaan to you as the share of your birth-right,’
saying, “I will give you the land of Canaan, The lot of your inheritance,”
19 w hen they were few in number. They were very few, and strangers in the land.
when you were but a few men in number, yes, very few, and foreigners were in it.
20 T hey traveled from nation to nation, from the people of one king to the people of another.
They went about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.
21 H e let no man make it hard for them. He spoke strong words to kings because of them, saying,
He allowed no man to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes,
22 ‘ Do not touch My chosen ones. Do not hurt those who speak for Me.’
“Don’t touch my anointed ones! Do my prophets no harm!”
23 S ing to the Lord, all the earth. Tell the good news of His saving power from day to day.
Sing to Yahweh, all the earth! Display his salvation from day to day.
24 T ell of His greatness among the nations. Tell of His great works among all the people.
Declare his glory among the nations, and his marvelous works among all the peoples.
25 F or great is the Lord. He is to be given much praise. And He is to be honored with fear more than all gods.
For great is Yahweh, and greatly to be praised. He also is to be feared above all gods.
26 F or all the gods of the people are false gods. But the Lord made the heavens.
For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but Yahweh made the heavens.
27 H onor and great power are with Him. Strength and joy are in His place.
Honor and majesty are before him. Strength and gladness are in his place.
28 P raise the Lord, O families of the people. Praise the Lord for His greatness and strength.
Ascribe to Yahweh, you relatives of the peoples, ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength!
29 P raise the Lord for the greatness of His name. Bring a gift and come to Him. Worship the Lord clothed in His holiness.
Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due to his name. Bring an offering, and come before him. Worship Yahweh in holy array.
30 S hake with fear before Him, all the earth. Yes, the world is made to last. It will not be moved.
Tremble before him, all the earth. The world also is established that it can’t be moved.
31 L et the heavens be glad. Let the earth be filled with joy. And let them say among the nations, ‘The Lord rules!’
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice! Let them say among the nations, “Yahweh reigns!”
32 L et the sea thunder, and all that is in it. Let the field be happy, and all that is in it.
Let the sea roar, and its fullness! Let the field exult, and all that is in it!
33 T hen the trees of the woods will sing for joy before the Lord. For He is coming to judge the earth.
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before Yahweh, for he comes to judge the earth.
34 O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His loving-kindness lasts forever.
Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.
35 T hen say, ‘Set us free, O God Who saves us. Gather and save us from among the nations, to give thanks to Your holy name, and have joy in Your praise.
Say, “Save us, God of our salvation! Gather us together and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to triumph in your praise.”
36 H onor be to the Lord, the God of Israel forever and ever.’” Then all the people said, “Let it be so!” and they praised the Lord. Worship at Jerusalem
Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. All the people said, “Amen,” and praised Yahweh.
37 S o David left Asaph and his brothers there in front of the special box with the Law of the Lord. He left them there to do the work in front of the special box always. They were to do whatever work needed to be done each day.
So he left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required;
38 H e left Obed-edom there with his sixty-eight brothers. Obed-edom, the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah were to watch the gate.
and Obed-Edom with their brothers, sixty-eight; Obed-Edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be doorkeepers;
39 D avid left Zadok and his brothers who were the religious leaders in front of the meeting tent of the Lord in the high place at Gibeon.
and Zadok the priest, and his brothers the priests, before Yahweh’s tabernacle in the high place that was at Gibeon,
40 T hey were to give burnt gifts to the Lord on the altar of burnt gifts all the time, morning and evening. They were to do all that is written in the Law of the Lord which He told Israel.
to offer burnt offerings to Yahweh on the altar of burnt offering continually morning and evening, even according to all that is written in Yahweh’s law, which he commanded to Israel;
41 W ith them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen by name. They were to give thanks to the Lord, because His loving-kindness lasts forever.
and with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen, who were mentioned by name, to give thanks to Yahweh, because his loving kindness endures forever;
42 H eman and Jeduthun had horns and timbrels for making sounds of joy as the songs of God were sung. The sons of Jeduthun were to watch the gate.
and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God; and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate.
43 T hen all the people left. Each one went home. And David returned to bring good to those of his house.
All the people departed, each man to his house; and David returned to bless his house.
