When Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am God Almighty. Walk before me, and be blameless.

2 A nd I will keep My agreement between Me and you. I will give you many children.”

I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.”

3 T hen Abram fell on his face. God said to him,

Abram fell on his face. God talked with him, saying,

4 See, My agreement is with you. You will be the father of many nations.

“As for me, behold, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations.

5 N o more will your name be Abram. But your name will be Abraham. For I will make you the father of many nations.

Your name will no more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

6 M any will come from you. I will make nations of you. Kings will come from you.

I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Kings will come out of you.

7 I will make My agreement between Me and you and your children after you through their whole lives for all time. I will be God to you and to your children’s children after you.

I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your offspring after you.

8 I will give to you and your children after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan for yourselves forever. And I will be their God.”

I will give to you, and to your offspring after you, the land where you are traveling, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession. I will be their God.”

9 T hen God said to Abraham, “You must keep My agreement, you and your children after you for all time.

God said to Abraham, “As for you, you will keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations.

10 T his is My agreement between Me and you and your children after you, which you must obey: Every man among you must have this religious act done.

This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you. Every male among you shall be circumcised.

11 I n this religious act the skin is cut off from the end of your sex part. This will be the special act of the agreement between Me and you.

You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a token of the covenant between me and you.

12 E very male child among you who is eight days old must have this religious act done, through all time. The same must be done to all the men born in your house or bought with your money from any stranger, who is not one of your family.

He who is eight days old will be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he who is born in the house, or bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring.

13 H e that is born in your house and he that is bought with your money must have this religious act done. So will My agreement be marked in your flesh, an agreement that lasts forever.

He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your money, must be circumcised. My covenant will be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

14 B ut the man who has not had this religious act done, of cutting off his piece of skin, will be cut off from his people. He has broken My agreement.”

The uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people. He has broken my covenant.”

15 T hen God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, do not call her name Sarai. But Sarah will be her name.

God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah.

16 A nd I will bring good to her. I will give you a son by her. I will bring good to her. And she will be the mother of nations. Kings of many people will come from her.”

I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her.”

17 T hen Abraham fell on his face and laughed. He said to himself, “Will a child be born to a man who is 100 years old?

Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, “Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?”

18 T hen Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael might live before You!”

Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

19 B ut God said, “No, but your wife Sarah will give birth to your son. And you will give him the name Isaac. I will make My agreement with him and for his children after him, an agreement that will last forever.

God said, “No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.

20 A s for Ishmael, I have heard you. I will bring good to him. I will make him grow in number. He will be the father of twelve rulers. I will make him a great nation.

As for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

21 B ut I will make My agreement with Isaac, who will be born to Sarah at this time next year.”

But my covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.”

22 W hen He had finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.

When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.

23 T hen Abraham took his son Ishmael, and all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money, and every man and boy who lived in his house. And he cut off their piece of skin that very day, as God had told him to do.

Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money; every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the same day, as God had said to him.

24 A braham was ninety-nine years old when he had the religious act done of cutting off his piece of skin.

Abraham was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

25 H is son Ishmael was thirteen years old when he had the religious act done of cutting off his piece of skin.

Ishmael, his son, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

26 A braham and his son Ishmael had this religious act done that very day.

In the same day both Abraham and Ishmael, his son, were circumcised.

27 A nd all the men of his house, who were born in the house or bought with money from a stranger, had this religious act done with him.

All the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
