1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew near, which is called the Passover.

Now the feast of unleavened bread, which called the passover, drew nigh,

2 A nd the princes of the priests and scribes sought how they might kill him, but they feared the people.

and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

3 T hen Satan entered into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

And Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariote, being of the number of the twelve.

4 A nd he went and spoke with the princes of the priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

And he went away and spoke with the chief priests and captains as to how he should deliver him up to them.

5 A nd they were glad and covenanted to give him money.

And they were rejoiced, and agreed to give him money.

6 A nd he promised and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

And he came to an agreement to do it, and sought an opportunity to deliver him up to them away from the crowd.

7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover lamb must be killed.

And the day of unleavened bread came, in which the passover was to be killed.

8 A nd he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover lamb that we may eat.

And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare the passover for us, that we may eat.

9 A nd they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

But they said to him, Where wilt thou that we prepare ?

10 A nd he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there ye shall find a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he enters in.

And he said to them, Behold, as ye enter into the city a man will meet you, carrying an earthen pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he goes in;

11 A nd ye shall say unto the husband of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber where I shall eat the passover lamb with my disciples?

and ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher says to thee, Where is the guest-chamber where I may eat the passover with my disciples?

12 A nd he shall show you a large upper room furnished; there make ready.

And he will shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

13 A nd they went and found as he had said unto them; and they made ready the passover lamb.

And having gone they found it as he had said to them; and they prepared the passover.

14 A nd when the hour was come, he sat down at the table, and the twelve apostles with him.

And when the hour was come, he placed himself at table, and the apostles with him.

15 A nd he said unto them, With desire I have greatly desired to eat this passover lamb with you before I suffer;

And he said to them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer.

16 f or I say unto you, I will not eat any more thereof until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

For I say unto you, that I will not eat any more at all of it until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17 A nd taking the cup, having given thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves,

And having received a cup, when he had given thanks he said, Take this and divide it among yourselves.

18 f or I say unto you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God shall come.

For I say unto you, that I will not drink at all of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God come.

19 A nd taking bread, having given thanks, he broke it and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

And having taken a loaf, when he had given thanks, he broke, and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

20 L ikewise also he took and gave them the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

In like manner also the cup, after having supped, saying, This cup the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

21 But with all this, behold, the hand of him that betrays me is with me on the table.

Moreover, behold, the hand of him that delivers me up with me on the table;

22 A nd truly the Son of man goes as it was determined; but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

and the Son of man indeed goes as it is determined, but woe unto that man by whom he is delivered up.

23 A nd they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

And they began to question together among themselves who then it could be of them who was about to do this.

24 A nd there was also a contention among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

And there was also a strife among them which of them should be held to be greatest.

25 T hen he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those that exercise authority upon them are called well-doers.

And he said to them, The kings of the nations rule over them, and they that exercise authority over them are called benefactors.

26 B ut ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is prince, as he that doth serve.

But ye not thus; but let the greater among you be as the younger, and the leader as he that serves.

27 F or who is greater, he that sits at the table or he that serves? Is it not he that sits at the table? But I am among you as he that serves.

For which greater, he that is at table or he that serves? not he that is at table? But I am in the midst of you as the one that serves.

28 B ut ye are those who have continued with me in my temptations.

But ye are they who have persevered with me in my temptations.

29 A nd I appoint unto you a kingdom as my Father has appointed unto me;

And I appoint unto you, as my Father has appointed unto me, a kingdom,

30 t hat ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 A nd the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat;

And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to have you, to sift as wheat;

32 b ut I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

but I have besought for thee that thy faith fail not; and thou, when once thou hast been restored, confirm thy brethren.

33 A nd he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison and to death.

And he said to him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.

34 A nd he said, I tell thee, Peter, thou shalt deny three times that thou knowest me before the cock shall crow this day.

And he said, I tell thee, Peter, cock shall not crow to-day before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

35 A nd he said unto them, When I sent you without purse and provision bag and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing.

And he said to them, When I sent you without purse and scrip and sandals, did ye lack anything? And they said, Nothing.

36 T hen he said unto them, But now, he that has a purse, let him take it and likewise his provision bag; and he that has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.

He said therefore to them, But now he that has a purse let him take, in like manner also a scrip, and he that has none let him sell his garment and buy a sword;

37 F or I say unto you that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors; for the things written concerning me have a fulfillment.

for I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned with lawless: for also the things concerning me have an end.

38 T hen they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

And they said, Lord, behold here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.

39 And he came out and went as he was wont to the mount of Olives, and his disciples also followed him.

And going forth he went according to his custom to the mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed him.

40 A nd when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

And when he was at the place he said to them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

41 A nd he withdrew from them about a stone’s cast and kneeled down and prayed,

And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and having knelt down he prayed,

42 s aying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

saying, Father, if thou wilt remove this cup from me:—but then, not my will, but thine be done.

43 A nd there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

And an angel appeared to him from heaven strengthening him.

44 A nd being in agony, he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

And being in conflict he prayed more intently. And his sweat became as great drops of blood, falling down upon the earth.

45 A nd when he rose up from prayer and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow

And rising up from his prayer, coming to the disciples, he found them sleeping from grief.

46 a nd said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

And he said to them, Why sleep ye? rise up and pray that ye enter not into temptation.

47 And while he yet spoke, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

As he was yet speaking, behold, a crowd, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went on before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss him.

48 B ut Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

And Jesus said to him, Judas, deliverest thou up the Son of man with a kiss?

49 W hen those who were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

And they who were around him, seeing what was going to follow, said, Lord, shall we smite with sword?

50 A nd one of them smote the slave of the prince of the priests and cut off his right ear.

And a certain one from among them smote the bondman of the high priest and took off his right ear.

51 A nd Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear and healed him.

And Jesus answering said, Suffer thus far; and having touched his ear, he healed him.

52 T hen Jesus said unto the princes of the priests and captains of the temple and the elders, who were come to him, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves?

And Jesus said to the chief priests and captains of the temple and elders, who were come against him, Have ye come out as against a robber with swords and sticks?

53 W hen I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me; but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

When I was day by day with you in the temple ye did not stretch out your hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of darkness.

54 Then they took him and led him and brought him into the house of the prince of the priests. And Peter followed afar off.

And having laid hold on him, they led him, and they led into the house of the high priest. And Peter followed afar off.

55 A nd when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

And they having lit a fire in the midst of the court and sat down together, Peter sat among them.

56 B ut a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire and earnestly looked upon him and said, This man was also with him.

And a certain maid, having seen him sitting by the light, and having fixed her eyes upon him, said, And this was with him.

57 A nd he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

But he denied, saying, Woman, I do not know him.

58 A nd after a little while another saw him and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

And after a short time another seeing him said, And thou art of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.

59 A nd about the space of one hour after, another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilaean.

And after the lapse of about one hour another stoutly maintained it, saying, In truth this also was with him, for also he is a Galilaean.

60 A nd Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately while he yet spoke, the cock crew.

And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, cock crew.

61 T hen the Lord turned and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord how he had said unto him, Before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times.

And the Lord, turning round, looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him, Before cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice.

62 A nd Peter went out and wept bitterly.

And Peter, going forth without, wept bitterly.

63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him and smote him.

And the men who held him mocked him, beating;

64 A nd when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

and covering him up, asked him saying, Prophesy, who is it that struck thee?

65 A nd they spoke many other things blasphemously against him.

And they said many other injurious things to him.

66 A nd as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the princes of the priests and the scribes came together and led him into their council, saying,

And when it was day, the elderhood of the people, both chief priests and scribes, were gathered together, and led him into their council, saying,

67 A rt thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe;

If thou art the Christ, tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, ye will not at all believe;

68 a nd if I also ask you, ye will not answer me nor let me go;

and if I should ask, ye would not answer me at all, nor let me go;

69 b ut from now on the Son of man shall sit on the right hand of the power of God.

but henceforth shall the Son of man be sitting on the right hand of the power of God.

70 T hen they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I AM.

And they all said, Thou then art the Son of God? And he said to them, Ye say that I am.

71 A nd they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

And they said, What need have we any more of witness, for we have heard ourselves out of his mouth?
