1 Then Bildad, the Shuhite, answered and said,

And Bildad the Shuhite answered and said,

2 H ow long will it be ere ye make an end of words? Understand, and afterwards we will speak.

How long will ye hunt for words? Be intelligent, and then we will speak.

3 W hy are we counted as beasts? Are we vile in your sight?

Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed stupid in your sight?

4 O thou that dost tear thy soul in thine anger; shall the earth be forsaken because of thee and shall the rocks be removed out of their place?

Thou that tearest thyself in thine anger, shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of its place?

5 The light of the wicked shall certainly be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the flame of his fire shall not shine.

6 T he light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his lamp shall be put out with him.

The light shall become dark in his tent, and his lamp over him shall be put out.

7 T he steps of his strength shall be cut down, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

8 F or a net shall be cast at his feet, and he shall walk upon a network.

For he is sent into the net by his own feet, and he walketh on the meshes;

9 T he snare shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.

The gin taketh by the heel, the snare layeth hold on him;

10 T he cord is hidden in the ground and a trap for him in the way.

A cord is hidden for him in the ground, and his trap in the way.

11 Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and his own feet shall drive him away.

Terrors make him afraid on every side, and chase him at his footsteps.

12 H is strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.

His strength is hunger-bitten, and calamity is ready at his side.

13 T hey shall devour the protection of his skin; the firstborn of death shall devour his members.

The firstborn of death devoureth the members of his body; it will devour his members.

14 H is confidence shall be rooted out of his tent, and he shall be brought to the king of terrors.

His confidence shall be rooted out of his tent, and it shall lead him away to the king of terrors:

15 H e shall dwell in his tent, as if it were not his; brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

They who are none of his shall dwell in his tent; brimstone shall be showered upon his habitation:

16 H is roots shall be dried up beneath, and above his branch shall be cut off.

His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off;

17 H is memory shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the streets.

His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name on the pasture-grounds.

18 H e shall be driven from the light into the darkness and chased out of the world.

He is driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

19 H e shall have neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any to succeed him in his dwellings.

He hath neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any remaining in the places of his sojourn.

20 T hose that come after him shall be dismayed at his day, as those that went before were overcome with fear.

They that come after shall be astonished at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.

21 S urely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that does not know God.

Surely, such are the dwellings of the unrighteous man, and such the place of him that knoweth not God.
