8 W hen thou art called to a wedding by anyone, do not sit down in the highest place, lest a more honourable man than thou be invited of him,
When thou art invited by any one to a wedding, do not lay thyself down in the first place at table, lest perhaps a more honourable than thou be invited by him,
9 a nd he that called thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place, and thou begin with shame to have the lowest place.
and he who invited thee and him come and say to thee, Give place to this, and then thou begin with shame to take the last place.
10 B ut when thou art called, go and sit down in the lowest place that when he that invited thee comes, he may say unto thee, Friend, come up higher; then shalt thou have glory in the presence of those that sit at the table with thee.
But when thou hast been invited, go and put thyself down in the last place, that when he who has invited thee comes, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have honour before all that are lying at table with thee;
11 F or whosoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.
for every one that exalts himself shall be abased, and he that abases himself shall be exalted.

13 B ut when thou makest a banquet, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind,
But when thou makest a feast, call poor, crippled, lame, blind:
14 a nd thou shalt be blessed, for they cannot recompense thee; for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

And great crowds went with him; and, turning round, he said to them,
26 I f anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, and even his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
If any man come to me, and shall not hate his own father and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yea, and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple;
27 A nd whosoever does not bear his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

28 F or which of you intending to build a tower does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has sufficient to finish it?
For which of you, desirous of building a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, if he have what to complete it;
29 L est perhaps after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
in order that, having laid the foundation of it, and not being able to finish it, all who see it do not begin to mock at him,
30 s aying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
saying, This man began to build and was not able to finish?
