1 A nd the feast of the unleavened food was coming nigh, that is called Passover,
Now the feast of unleavened bread, which called the passover, drew nigh,
2 a nd the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they may take him up, for they were afraid of the people.
and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3 A nd the Adversary entered into Judas, who is surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve,
And Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariote, being of the number of the twelve.
4 a nd he, having gone away, spake with the chief priests and the magistrates, how he might deliver him up to them,
And he went away and spoke with the chief priests and captains as to how he should deliver him up to them.
5 a nd they rejoiced, and covenanted to give him money,
And they were rejoiced, and agreed to give him money.
6 a nd he agreed, and was seeking a favourable season to deliver him up to them without tumult.
And he came to an agreement to do it, and sought an opportunity to deliver him up to them away from the crowd.
7 A nd the day of the unleavened food came, in which it was behoving the passover to be sacrificed,
And the day of unleavened bread came, in which the passover was to be killed.
8 a nd he sent Peter and John, saying, `Having gone on, prepare to us the passover, that we may eat;'
And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare the passover for us, that we may eat.
9 a nd they said to him, `Where wilt thou that we might prepare?'
But they said to him, Where wilt thou that we prepare ?
10 A nd he said to them, `Lo, in your entering into the city, there shall meet you a man, bearing a pitcher of water, follow him to the house where he doth go in,
And he said to them, Behold, as ye enter into the city a man will meet you, carrying an earthen pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he goes in;
11 a nd ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher saith to thee, Where is the guest-chamber where the passover with my disciples I may eat?
and ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher says to thee, Where is the guest-chamber where I may eat the passover with my disciples?
12 a nd he shall show you a large upper room furnished, there make ready;'
And he will shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13 a nd they, having gone away, found as he hath said to them, and they made ready the passover.
And having gone they found it as he had said to them; and they prepared the passover.
14 A nd when the hour come, he reclined (at meat), and the twelve apostles with him,
And when the hour was come, he placed himself at table, and the apostles with him.
15 a nd he said unto them, `With desire I did desire to eat this passover with you before my suffering,
And he said to them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer.
16 f or I say to you, that no more may I eat of it till it may be fulfilled in the reign of God.'
For I say unto you, that I will not eat any more at all of it until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 A nd having taken a cup, having given thanks, he said, `Take this and divide to yourselves,
And having received a cup, when he had given thanks he said, Take this and divide it among yourselves.
18 f or I say to you that I may not drink of the produce of the vine till the reign of God may come.'
For I say unto you, that I will not drink at all of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God come.
19 A nd having taken bread, having given thanks, he brake and gave to them, saying, `This is my body, that for you is being given, this do ye -- to remembrance of me.'
And having taken a loaf, when he had given thanks, he broke, and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 I n like manner, also, the cup after the supping, saying, `This cup the new covenant in my blood, that for you is being poured forth.
In like manner also the cup, after having supped, saying, This cup the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
21 ` But, lo, the hand of him delivering me up with me on the table,
Moreover, behold, the hand of him that delivers me up with me on the table;
22 a nd indeed the Son of Man doth go according to what hath been determined; but wo to that man through whom he is being delivered up.'
and the Son of man indeed goes as it is determined, but woe unto that man by whom he is delivered up.
23 A nd they began to reason among themselves, who then of them it may be, who is about to do this thing.
And they began to question together among themselves who then it could be of them who was about to do this.
24 A nd there happened also a strife among them -- who of them is accounted to be greater.
And there was also a strife among them which of them should be held to be greatest.
25 A nd he said to them, `The kings of the nations do exercise lordship over them, and those exercising authority upon them are called benefactors;
And he said to them, The kings of the nations rule over them, and they that exercise authority over them are called benefactors.
26 b ut ye not so, but he who is greater among you -- let him be as the younger; and he who is leading, as he who is ministering;
But ye not thus; but let the greater among you be as the younger, and the leader as he that serves.
27 f or who is greater? he who is reclining (at meat), or he who is ministering? is it not he who is reclining (at meat)? and I -- I am in your midst as he who is ministering.
For which greater, he that is at table or he that serves? not he that is at table? But I am in the midst of you as the one that serves.
28 ` And ye -- ye are those who have remained with me in my temptations,
But ye are they who have persevered with me in my temptations.
29 a nd I appoint to you, as my Father did appoint to me, a kingdom,
And I appoint unto you, as my Father has appointed unto me, a kingdom,
30 t hat ye may eat and may drink at my table, in my kingdom, and may sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.'

31 A nd the Lord said, `Simon, Simon, lo, the Adversary did ask you for himself to sift as the wheat,
And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to have you, to sift as wheat;
32 a nd I besought for thee, that thy faith may not fail; and thou, when thou didst turn, strengthen thy brethren.'
but I have besought for thee that thy faith fail not; and thou, when once thou hast been restored, confirm thy brethren.
33 A nd he said to him, `Sir, with thee I am ready both to prison and to death to go;'
And he said to him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.
34 a nd he said, `I say to thee, Peter, a cock shall not crow to-day, before thrice thou mayest disown knowing me.'
And he said, I tell thee, Peter, cock shall not crow to-day before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
35 A nd he said to them, `When I sent you without bag, and scrip, and sandals, did ye lack anything?' and they said, `Nothing.'
And he said to them, When I sent you without purse and scrip and sandals, did ye lack anything? And they said, Nothing.
36 T hen said he to them, `But, now, he who is having a bag, let him take up, and in like manner also a scrip; and he who is not having, let him sell his garment, and buy a sword,
He said therefore to them, But now he that has a purse let him take, in like manner also a scrip, and he that has none let him sell his garment and buy a sword;
37 f or I say to you, that yet this that hath been written it behoveth to be fulfilled in me: And with lawless ones he was reckoned, for also the things concerning me have an end.'

38 A nd they said, `Sir, lo, here two swords;' and he said to them, `It is sufficient.'
And they said, Lord, behold here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.
39 A nd having gone forth, he went on, according to custom, to the mount of the Olives, and his disciples also followed him,
And going forth he went according to his custom to the mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed him.
40 a nd having come to the place, he said to them, `Pray ye not to enter into temptation.'
And when he was at the place he said to them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41 A nd he was withdrawn from them, as it were a stone's cast, and having fallen on the knees he was praying,
And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and having knelt down he prayed,
42 s aying, `Father, if Thou be counselling to make this cup pass from me --; but, not my will, but Thine be done.' --
saying, Father, if thou wilt remove this cup from me:—but then, not my will, but thine be done.
43 A nd there appeared to him a messenger from heaven strengthening him;
And an angel appeared to him from heaven strengthening him.
44 a nd having been in agony, he was more earnestly praying, and his sweat became, as it were, great drops of blood falling upon the ground.
And being in conflict he prayed more intently. And his sweat became as great drops of blood, falling down upon the earth.
45 A nd having risen up from the prayer, having come unto the disciples, he found them sleeping from the sorrow,
And rising up from his prayer, coming to the disciples, he found them sleeping from grief.
46 a nd he said to them, `Why do ye sleep? having risen, pray that ye may not enter into temptation.'
And he said to them, Why sleep ye? rise up and pray that ye enter not into temptation.
47 A nd while he is speaking, lo, a multitude, and he who is called Judas, one of the twelve, was coming before them, and he came nigh to Jesus to kiss him,
As he was yet speaking, behold, a crowd, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went on before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss him.
48 a nd Jesus said to him, `Judas, with a kiss the Son of Man dost thou deliver up?'
And Jesus said to him, Judas, deliverest thou up the Son of man with a kiss?
49 A nd those about him, having seen what was about to be, said to him, `Sir, shall we smite with a sword?'
And they who were around him, seeing what was going to follow, said, Lord, shall we smite with sword?
50 A nd a certain one of them smote the servant of the chief priest, and took off his right ear,
And a certain one from among them smote the bondman of the high priest and took off his right ear.
51 a nd Jesus answering said, `Suffer ye thus far,' and having touched his ear, he healed him.
And Jesus answering said, Suffer thus far; and having touched his ear, he healed him.
52 A nd Jesus said to those having come upon him -- chief priests, and magistrates of the temple, and elders -- `As upon a robber have ye come forth, with swords and sticks?
And Jesus said to the chief priests and captains of the temple and elders, who were come against him, Have ye come out as against a robber with swords and sticks?
53 w hile daily I was with you in the temple, ye did stretch forth no hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of the darkness.'
When I was day by day with you in the temple ye did not stretch out your hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of darkness.
54 A nd having taken him, they led and brought him to the house of the chief priest. And Peter was following afar off,
And having laid hold on him, they led him, and they led into the house of the high priest. And Peter followed afar off.
55 a nd they having kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and having sat down together, Peter was sitting in the midst of them,
And they having lit a fire in the midst of the court and sat down together, Peter sat among them.
56 a nd a certain maid having seen him sitting at the light, and having earnestly looked at him, she said, `And this one was with him!'
And a certain maid, having seen him sitting by the light, and having fixed her eyes upon him, said, And this was with him.
57 a nd he disowned him, saying, `Woman, I have not known him.'
But he denied, saying, Woman, I do not know him.
58 A nd after a little, another having seen him, said, `And thou art of them!' and Peter said, `Man, I am not.'
And after a short time another seeing him said, And thou art of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.
59 A nd one hour, as it were, having intervened, a certain other was confidently affirming, saying, `Of a truth this one also was with him, for he is also a Galilean;'
And after the lapse of about one hour another stoutly maintained it, saying, In truth this also was with him, for also he is a Galilaean.
60 a nd Peter said, `Man, I have not known what thou sayest;' and presently, while he is speaking, a cock crew.
And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, cock crew.
61 A nd the Lord having turned did look on Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him -- `Before a cock shall crow, thou mayest disown me thrice;'
And the Lord, turning round, looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him, Before cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice.
62 a nd Peter having gone without, wept bitterly.
And Peter, going forth without, wept bitterly.
63 A nd the men who were holding Jesus were mocking him, beating;
And the men who held him mocked him, beating;
64 a nd having blindfolded him, they were striking him on the face, and were questioning him, saying, `Prophesy who he is who smote thee?'
and covering him up, asked him saying, Prophesy, who is it that struck thee?
65 a nd many other things, speaking evilly, they spake in regard to him.
And they said many other injurious things to him.
66 A nd when it became day there was gathered together the eldership of the people, chief priests also, and scribes, and they led him up to their own sanhedrim,
And when it was day, the elderhood of the people, both chief priests and scribes, were gathered together, and led him into their council, saying,
67 s aying, `If thou be the Christ, tell us.' And he said to them, `If I may tell you, ye will not believe;
If thou art the Christ, tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, ye will not at all believe;
68 a nd if I also question, ye will not answer me or send me away;
and if I should ask, ye would not answer me at all, nor let me go;
69 h enceforth, there shall be the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power of God.'
but henceforth shall the Son of man be sitting on the right hand of the power of God.
70 A nd they all said, `Thou, then, art the Son of God?' and he said unto them, `Ye say, because I am;'
And they all said, Thou then art the Son of God? And he said to them, Ye say that I am.
71 a nd they said, `What need yet have we of testimony? for we ourselves did hear from his mouth.'
And they said, What need have we any more of witness, for we have heard ourselves out of his mouth?
