1 A Song of the Ascents, by David. I have rejoiced in those saying to me, `To the house of Jehovah we go.'

I rejoiced when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of Jehovah.

2 O ur feet have been standing in thy gates, O Jerusalem!

Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.

3 J erusalem -- the builded one -- as a city that is joined to itself together.

Jerusalem, which art built as a city that is compact together,

4 F or thither have tribes gone up, Tribes of Jah, companies of Israel, To give thanks to the name of Jehovah.

Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of Jah, a testimony to Israel, to give thanks unto the name of Jehovah.

5 F or there have sat thrones of judgment, Thrones of the house of David.

For there are set thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

6 A sk ye the peace of Jerusalem, At rest are those loving thee.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

7 P eace is in thy bulwark, rest in thy high places,

Peace be within thy bulwarks, prosperity within thy palaces.

8 F or the sake of my brethren and my companions, Let me speak, I pray thee, `Peace in thee.'

For my brethren and companions' sakes I will say, Peace be within thee!

9 F or the sake of the house of Jehovah our God, I seek good for thee!

Because of the house of Jehovah our God I will seek thy good.
