1 B rethren and fathers, listen to the defense which I now make in your presence.

諸 位 父 兄 請 聽 ， 我 現 在 對 你 們 分 訴 。

2 A nd when they heard that he addressed them in the Hebrew tongue, they were all the more quiet. And he continued,

眾 人 聽 他 說 的 是 希 伯 來 話 ， 就 更 加 安 靜 了 。

3 I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia but reared in this city. At the feet of Gamaliel I was educated according to the strictest care in the Law of our fathers, being ardent for God, as all of you are today.

保 羅 說 ： 我 原 是 猶 太 人 ， 生 在 基 利 家 的 大 數 ， 長 在 這 城 裡 ， 在 迦 瑪 列 門 下 ， 按 著 我 們 祖 宗 嚴 緊 的 律 法 受 教 ， 熱 心 事 奉 神 ， 像 你 們 眾 人 今 日 一 樣 。

4 I harassed (troubled, molested, and persecuted) this Way to the death, putting in chains and committing to prison both men and women,

我 也 曾 逼 迫 奉 這 道 的 人 ， 直 到 死 地 ， 無 論 男 女 都 鎖 拿 下 監 。

5 A s the high priest and whole council of elders (Sanhedrin) can testify; for from them indeed I received letters with which I was on my way to the brethren in Damascus in order to take also those who were there, and bring them in chains to Jerusalem that they might be punished.

這 是 大 祭 司 和 眾 長 老 都 可 以 給 我 作 見 證 的 。 我 又 領 了 他 們 達 與 弟 兄 的 書 信 ， 往 大 馬 色 去 ， 要 把 在 那 裡 奉 這 道 的 人 鎖 拿 ， 帶 到 耶 路 撒 冷 受 刑 。

6 B ut as I was on my journey and approached Damascus, about noon a great blaze of light flashed suddenly from heaven and shone about me.

我 將 到 大 馬 色 ， 正 走 的 時 候 ， 約 在 晌 午 ， 忽 然 從 天 上 發 大 光 ， 四 面 照 著 我 。

7 A nd I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me ?

我 就 仆 倒 在 地 ， 聽 見 有 聲 音 對 我 說 ： 掃 羅 ！ 掃 羅 ！ 你 為 甚 麼 逼 迫 我 ？

8 A nd I replied, Who are You, Lord? And He said to me, I am Jesus the Nazarene, Whom you are persecuting.

我 回 答 說 ： 主 阿 ， 你 是 誰 ？ 他 說 ： 我 就 是 你 所 逼 迫 的 拿 撒 勒 人 耶 穌 。

9 N ow the men who were with me saw the light, but they did not hear '> the sound of the uttered words of] the voice of the One Who was speaking to me '> understand it].

與 我 同 行 的 人 看 見 了 那 光 ， 卻 沒 有 聽 明 那 位 對 我 說 話 的 聲 音 。

10 A nd I asked, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord answered me, Get up and go into Damascus, and there it will be told you all that it is destined and appointed for you to do.

我 說 ： 主 阿 ， 我 當 做 甚 麼 ？ 主 說 ： 起 來 ， 進 大 馬 色 去 ， 在 那 裡 ， 要 將 所 派 你 做 的 一 切 事 告 訴 你 。

11 A nd since I could not see because of the brightness of that light, I was led by the hand by those who were with me, and I arrived in Damascus.

我 因 那 光 的 榮 耀 不 能 看 見 ， 同 行 的 人 就 拉 著 我 手 進 了 大 馬 色 。

12 A nd one Ananias, a devout man according to the Law, well spoken of by all the Jews who resided there,

那 裡 有 一 個 人 ， 名 叫 亞 拿 尼 亞 ， 按 著 律 法 是 虔 誠 人 ， 為 一 切 住 在 那 裡 的 猶 太 人 所 稱 讚 。

13 C ame to see me, and standing by my side said to me, Brother Saul, look up and receive back your sight. And in that very instant I looking up saw him.

他 來 見 我 ， 站 在 旁 邊 ， 對 我 說 ： 兄 弟 掃 羅 ， 你 可 以 看 見 。 我 當 時 往 上 一 看 ， 就 看 見 了 他 。

14 A nd he said, The God of our forefathers has destined and appointed you to come progressively to know His will, and to see the Righteous One (Jesus Christ, the Messiah), and to hear a voice from His mouth and a message from His lips;

他 又 說 ： 我 們 祖 宗 的 神 揀 選 了 你 ， 叫 你 明 白 他 的 旨 意 ， 又 得 見 那 義 者 ， 聽 他 口 中 所 出 的 聲 音 。

15 F or you will be His witness unto all men of everything that you have seen and heard.

因 為 你 要 將 所 看 見 的 ， 所 聽 見 的 ， 對 著 萬 人 為 他 作 見 證 。

16 A nd now, why do you delay? Rise and be baptized, and by calling upon His name, wash away your sins.

現 在 你 為 甚 麼 耽 延 呢 ？ 起 來 ， 求 告 他 的 名 受 洗 ， 洗 去 你 的 罪 。

17 T hen when I had come back to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple '> enclosure], I fell into a trance (an ecstasy);

後 來 ， 我 回 到 耶 路 撒 冷 ， 在 殿 裡 禱 告 的 時 候 ， 魂 遊 象 外 ，

18 A nd I saw Him as He said to me, Hurry, get quickly out of Jerusalem, because they will not receive your testimony about Me.

看 見 主 向 我 說 ： 你 趕 緊 的 離 開 耶 路 撒 冷 ， 不 可 遲 延 ； 因 你 為 我 作 的 見 證 ， 這 裡 的 人 必 不 領 受 。

19 A nd I said, Lord, they themselves well know that throughout all the synagogues I cast into prison and flogged those who believed on (adhered to and trusted in and relied on) You.

我 就 說 ： 主 阿 ， 他 們 知 道 我 從 前 把 信 你 的 人 收 在 監 裡 ， 又 在 各 會 堂 裡 鞭 打 他 們 。

20 A nd when the blood of Your witness (martyr) Stephen was shed, I also was personally standing by and consenting and approving and guarding the garments of those who slew him.

並 且 你 的 見 證 人 司 提 反 被 害 流 血 的 時 候 ， 我 也 站 在 旁 邊 歡 喜 ； 又 看 守 害 死 他 之 人 的 衣 裳 。

21 A nd the Lord said to me, Go, for I will send you far away unto the Gentiles (nations).

主 向 我 說 ： 你 去 罷 ！ 我 要 差 你 遠 遠 的 往 外 邦 人 那 裡 去 。

22 U p to the moment that Paul made this last statement, the people listened to him; but now they raised their voices and shouted, Away with such a fellow from the earth! He is not fit to live!

眾 人 聽 他 說 到 這 句 話 ， 就 高 聲 說 ： 這 樣 的 人 ， 從 世 上 除 掉 他 罷 ！ 他 是 不 當 活 著 的 。

23 A nd as they were shouting and tossing and waving their garments and throwing dust into the air,

眾 人 喧 嚷 ， 摔 掉 衣 裳 ， 把 塵 土 向 空 中 揚 起 來 。

24 T he commandant ordered that Paul be brought into the barracks, and that he be examined by scourging in order that might learn why the people cried out thus against him.

千 夫 長 就 吩 咐 將 保 羅 帶 進 營 樓 去 ， 叫 人 用 鞭 子 拷 問 他 ， 要 知 道 他 們 向 他 這 樣 喧 嚷 是 為 甚 麼 緣 故 。

25 B ut when they had stretched him out with the thongs (leather straps), Paul asked the centurion who was standing by, Is it legal for you to flog a man who is a Roman citizen and uncondemned ?

剛 用 皮 條 捆 上 ， 保 羅 對 旁 邊 站 著 的 百 夫 長 說 ： 人 是 羅 馬 人 ， 又 沒 有 定 罪 ， 你 們 就 鞭 打 他 ， 有 這 個 例 麼 ？

26 W hen the centurion heard that, he went to the commandant and said to him, What are you about to do? This man is a Roman citizen!

百 夫 長 聽 見 這 話 ， 就 去 見 千 夫 長 ， 告 訴 他 說 ： 你 要 做 甚 麼 ？ 這 人 是 羅 馬 人 。

27 S o the commandant came and said to, Tell me, are you a Roman citizen? And he said, Yes!

千 夫 長 就 來 問 保 羅 說 ： 你 告 訴 我 ， 你 是 羅 馬 人 麼 ？ 保 羅 說 ： 是 。

28 T he commandant replied, I purchased this citizenship for a big price. Paul said, But I was born!

千 夫 長 說 ： 我 用 許 多 銀 子 才 入 了 羅 馬 的 民 籍 。 保 羅 說 ： 我 生 來 就 是 。

29 I nstantly those who were about to examine and flog him withdrew from him; and the commandant also was frightened, for he realized that was a Roman citizen and he had put him in chains.

於 是 那 些 要 拷 問 保 羅 的 人 就 離 開 他 去 了 。 千 夫 長 既 知 道 他 是 羅 馬 人 ， 又 因 為 捆 綁 了 他 ， 也 害 怕 了 。

30 B ut the next day, desiring to know the real cause for which the Jews accused him, he unbound him and ordered the chief priests and all the council (Sanhedrin) to assemble; and he brought Paul down and placed him before them.

第 二 天 ， 千 夫 長 為 要 知 道 猶 太 人 控 告 保 羅 的 實 情 ， 便 解 開 他 ， 吩 咐 祭 司 長 和 全 公 會 的 人 都 聚 集 ， 將 保 羅 帶 下 來 ， 叫 他 站 在 他 們 面 前 。
