1 A t that time Judah withdrew from his brothers and went to a certain Adullamite named Hirah.

那 時 ， 猶 大 離 開 他 弟 兄 下 去 ， 到 一 個 亞 杜 蘭 人 名 叫 希 拉 的 家 裡 去 。

2 T here Judah saw and met a daughter of Shuah, a Canaanite; he took her as wife and lived with her.

猶 大 在 那 裡 看 見 一 個 迦 南 人 名 叫 書 亞 的 女 兒 ， 就 娶 他 為 妻 ， 與 他 同 房 ，

3 A nd she became pregnant and bore a son, and he called him Er.

他 就 懷 孕 生 了 兒 子 ， 猶 大 給 他 起 名 叫 珥 。

4 A nd she conceived again and bore a son and named him Onan.

他 又 懷 孕 生 了 兒 子 ， 母 親 給 他 起 名 叫 俄 南 。

5 A gain she conceived and bore a son and named him Shelah. at Chezib when she bore him.

他 復 又 生 了 兒 子 ， 給 他 起 名 叫 示 拉 。 他 生 示 拉 的 時 候 ， 猶 大 正 在 基 悉 。

6 N ow Judah took a wife for Er, his firstborn; her name was Tamar.

猶 大 為 長 子 珥 娶 妻 ， 名 叫 他 瑪 。

7 A nd Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord slew him.

猶 大 的 長 子 珥 在 耶 和 華 眼 中 看 為 惡 ， 耶 和 華 就 叫 他 死 了 。

8 T hen Judah told Onan, Marry your brother’s widow; live with her and raise offspring for your brother.

猶 大 對 俄 南 說 ： 你 當 與 你 哥 哥 的 妻 子 同 房 ， 向 他 盡 你 為 弟 的 本 分 ， 為 你 哥 哥 生 子 立 後 。

9 B ut Onan knew that the family would not be his, so when he cohabited with his brother’s widow, he prevented conception, lest he should raise up a child for his brother.

俄 南 知 道 生 子 不 歸 自 己 ， 所 以 同 房 的 時 候 便 遺 在 地 ， 免 得 給 他 哥 哥 留 後 。

10 A nd the thing which he did displeased the Lord; therefore He slew him also.

俄 南 所 做 的 在 耶 和 華 眼 中 看 為 惡 ， 耶 和 華 也 就 叫 他 死 了 。

11 T hen Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow at your father’s house till Shelah my son is grown; for he thought, Lest perhaps he would die also, as his brothers did. So Tamar went and lived in her father’s house.

猶 大 心 裡 說 ： 恐 怕 示 拉 也 死 ， 像 他 兩 個 哥 哥 一 樣 ， 就 對 他 兒 婦 他 瑪 說 ： 你 去 ， 在 你 父 親 家 裡 守 寡 ， 等 我 兒 子 示 拉 長 大 。 他 瑪 就 回 去 ， 住 在 他 父 親 家 裡 。

12 B ut later Judah’s wife, the daughter of Shuah, died; and when Judah was comforted, he went up to his sheepshearers at Timnath with his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

過 了 許 久 ， 猶 大 的 妻 子 書 亞 的 女 兒 死 了 。 猶 大 得 了 安 慰 ， 就 和 他 朋 友 亞 杜 蘭 人 希 拉 上 亭 拿 去 ， 到 他 剪 羊 毛 的 人 那 裡 。

13 T hen it was told Tamar, Listen, your father-in-law is going up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

有 人 告 訴 他 瑪 說 ： 你 的 公 公 上 亭 拿 剪 羊 毛 去 了 。

14 S o she put off her widow’s garments and covered herself with a veil, wrapped herself up, and sat in the entrance of Enaim, which is by the road to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown and she was not given to him as his wife.

他 瑪 見 示 拉 已 經 長 大 ， 還 沒 有 娶 他 為 妻 ， 就 脫 了 他 作 寡 婦 的 衣 裳 ， 用 帕 子 蒙 著 臉 ， 又 遮 住 身 體 ， 坐 在 亭 拿 路 上 的 伊 拿 印 城 門 口 。

15 W hen Judah saw her, he thought she was a harlot or devoted prostitute, for she had covered her face.

猶 大 看 見 他 ， 以 為 是 妓 女 ， 因 為 他 蒙 著 臉 。

16 H e turned to her by the road and said, Come, let me have intercourse with you; for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What will you give me that you may have intercourse with me?

猶 大 就 轉 到 他 那 裡 去 ， 說 ： 來 罷 ！ 讓 我 與 你 同 寢 。 他 原 不 知 道 是 他 的 兒 婦 。 他 瑪 說 ： 你 要 與 我 同 寢 ， 把 甚 麼 給 我 呢 ？

17 H e answered, I will send you a kid from the flock. And she said, Will you give me a pledge (deposit) until you send it?

猶 大 說 ： 我 從 羊 群 裡 取 一 隻 山 羊 羔 ， 打 發 人 送 來 給 你 。 他 瑪 說 ： 在 未 送 以 先 ， 你 願 意 給 我 一 個 當 頭 麼 ？

18 A nd he said, What pledge shall I give you? She said, Your signet, your cord, and your staff that is in your hand. And he gave them to her and came in to her, and she became pregnant by him.

他 說 ： 我 給 你 甚 麼 當 頭 呢 ？ 他 瑪 說 ： 你 的 印 、 你 的 帶 子 ， 和 你 手 裡 的 杖 。 猶 大 就 給 了 他 ， 與 他 同 寢 ， 他 就 從 猶 大 懷 了 孕 。

19 A nd she arose and went away and laid aside her veil and put on the garments of her widowhood.

他 瑪 起 來 走 了 ， 除 去 帕 子 ， 仍 舊 穿 上 作 寡 婦 的 衣 裳 。

20 A nd Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand; but he was unable to find her.

猶 大 託 他 朋 友 亞 杜 蘭 人 送 一 隻 山 羊 羔 去 ， 要 從 那 女 人 手 裡 取 回 當 頭 來 ， 卻 找 不 著 他 ，

21 H e asked the men of that place, Where is the harlot or cult prostitute who was openly by the roadside? They said, There was no harlot or temple prostitute here.

就 問 那 地 方 的 人 說 ： 伊 拿 印 路 旁 的 妓 女 在 那 裡 ？ 他 們 說 ： 這 裡 並 沒 有 妓 女 。

22 S o he returned to Judah and said, I cannot find her; and also the local men said, There was no harlot or temple prostitute around here.

他 回 去 見 猶 大 說 ： 我 沒 有 找 著 他 ， 並 且 那 地 方 的 人 說 ： 這 裡 沒 有 妓 女 。

23 A nd Judah said, Let her keep for herself, lest we be made ashamed. I sent this kid, but you have not found her.

猶 大 說 ： 我 把 這 山 羊 羔 送 去 了 ， 你 竟 找 不 著 他 。 任 憑 他 拿 去 罷 ， 免 得 我 們 被 羞 辱 。

24 B ut about three months later Judah was told, Tamar your daughter-in-law has played the harlot, and also she is with child by her lewdness. And Judah said, Bring her forth and let her be burned!

約 過 了 三 個 月 ， 有 人 告 訴 猶 大 說 ： 你 的 兒 婦 他 瑪 作 了 妓 女 ， 且 因 行 淫 有 了 身 孕 。 猶 大 說 ： 拉 出 他 來 ， 把 他 燒 了 ！

25 W hen she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, I am with child by the man to whom these articles belong. Then she added, Make out clearly, I pray you, to whom these belong, the signet, cord, and staff.

他 瑪 被 拉 出 來 的 時 候 便 打 發 人 去 見 他 公 公 ， 對 他 說 ： 這 些 東 西 是 誰 的 ， 我 就 是 從 誰 懷 的 孕 。 請 你 認 一 認 ， 這 印 和 帶 子 並 杖 都 是 誰 的 ？

26 A nd Judah acknowledged them and said, She has been more righteous and just than I, because I did not give her to Shelah my son. And he did not cohabit with her again.

猶 大 承 認 說 ： 他 比 我 更 有 義 ， 因 為 我 沒 有 將 他 給 我 的 兒 子 示 拉 。 從 此 猶 大 不 再 與 他 同 寢 了 。

27 N ow when the time came for her to be delivered, behold, there were twins in her womb.

他 瑪 將 要 生 產 ， 不 料 他 腹 裡 是 一 對 雙 生 。

28 A nd when she was in labor, one baby put out his hand; and the midwife took his hand and bound upon it a scarlet thread, saying, This baby was born first.

到 生 產 的 時 候 ， 一 個 孩 子 伸 出 一 隻 手 來 ； 收 生 婆 拿 紅 線 拴 在 他 手 上 ， 說 ： 這 是 頭 生 的 。

29 B ut he drew back his hand, and behold, his brother was born first. And she said, What a breaking forth you have made for yourself! Therefore his name was called Perez.

隨 後 這 孩 子 把 手 收 回 去 ， 他 哥 哥 生 出 來 了 ； 收 生 婆 說 ： 你 為 甚 麼 搶 著 來 呢 ？ 因 此 給 他 起 名 叫 法 勒 斯 。

30 A nd afterward his brother who had the scarlet thread on his hand was born and was named Zerah.

後 來 ， 他 兄 弟 那 手 上 有 紅 線 的 也 生 出 來 ， 就 給 他 起 名 叫 謝 拉 。
