1 W herefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

Por tanto, desechando toda malicia y todo engaño, e hipocresías, envidias y toda difamación,

2 a s newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

desead como niños recién nacidos, la leche pura de la palabra, para que por ella crezcáis para salvación,

3 i f so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

si es que habéis probado la benignidad del Señor.

4 T o whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

Y viniendo a El como a una piedra viva, desechada por los hombres, pero escogida y preciosa delante de Dios,

5 y e also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

también vosotros, como piedras vivas, sed edificados como casa espiritual para un sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales aceptables a Dios por medio de Jesucristo.

6 W herefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Pues esto se encuentra en la Escritura: He aqui, pongo en Sion una piedra escogida, una preciosa piedra angular, y el que crea en El no sera avergonzado.

7 U nto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

Este precioso valor es, pues, para vosotros los que creéis; pero para los que no creen, La piedra que desecharon los constructores, esa, en piedra angular se ha convertido,

8 a nd a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

y, piedra de tropiezo y roca de escandalo; pues ellos tropiezan porque son desobedientes a la palabra, y para ello estaban también destinados.

9 B ut ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Pero vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo adquirido para posesión de Dios, a fin de que anunciéis las virtudes de aquel que os llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable;

10 w hich in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

pues vosotros en otro tiempo no erais pueblo, pero ahora sois el pueblo de Dios; no habíais recibido misericordia, pero ahora habéis recibido misericordia. Conducta de los creyentes en el mundo

11 D early beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

Amados, os ruego como a extranjeros y peregrinos, que os abstengáis de las pasiones carnales que combaten contra el alma.

12 h aving your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Mantened entre los gentiles una conducta irreprochable, a fin de que en aquello que os calumnian como malhechores, ellos, por razón de vuestras buenas obras, al considerar las, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visitación.

13 S ubmit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

Someteos, por causa del Señor, a toda institución humana, ya sea al rey, como autoridad,

14 o r unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

o a los gobernadores, como enviados por él para castigo de los malhechores y alabanza de los que hacen el bien.

15 F or so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

Porque esta es la voluntad de Dios: que haciendo bien, hagáis enmudecer la ignorancia de los hombres insensatos.

16 a s free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

Andad como libres, pero no uséis la libertad como pretexto para la maldad, sino empleadla como siervos de Dios.

17 H onour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

Honrad a todos, amad a los hermanos, temed a Dios, honrad al rey. Ejemplo de Cristo como siervo

18 S ervants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

Siervos, estad sujetos a vuestros amos con todo respeto, no sólo a los que son buenos y afables, sino también a los que son insoportables.

19 F or this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

Porque esto halla gracia, si por causa de la conciencia ante Dios, alguno sobrelleva penalidades sufriendo injustamente.

20 F or what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

Pues ¿qué mérito hay, si cuando pecáis y sois tratados con severidad lo soportáis con paciencia? Pero si cuando hacéis lo bueno sufrís por ello y lo soportáis con paciencia, esto halla gracia con Dios.

21 F or even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

Porque para este propósito habéis sido llamados, pues también Cristo sufrió por vosotros, dejándoos ejemplo para que sigáis sus pisadas,

22 w ho did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

el cual no cometio pecado, ni engaño alguno se hallo en su boca;

23 w ho, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

y quien cuando le ultrajaban, no respondía ultrajando; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino que se encomendaba a aquel que juzga con justicia;

24 w ho his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

y El mismo llevó nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre la cruz, a fin de que muramos al pecado y vivamos a la justicia, porque por sus heridas fuisteis sanados.

25 F or ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Pues vosotros andabais descarriados como ovejas, pero ahora habéis vuelto al Pastor y Guardián de vuestras almas.
