1 A nd when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus’ band.

Cuando se decidió que deberíamos embarcarnos para Italia, fueron entregados Pablo y algunos otros presos a un centurión de la compañía Augusta, llamado Julio.

2 A nd entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

Y embarcándonos en una nave adramitena que estaba para zarpar hacia las regiones de la costa de Asia, nos hicimos a la mar acompañados por Aristarco, un macedonio de Tesalónica.

3 A nd the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

Al día siguiente llegamos a Sidón. Julio trató a Pablo con benevolencia, permitiéndole ir a sus amigos y ser atendido por ellos.

4 A nd when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

De allí partimos y navegamos al abrigo de la isla de Chipre, porque los vientos eran contrarios.

5 A nd when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.

Y después de navegar atravesando el mar frente a las costas de Cilicia y de Panfilia, llegamos a Mira de Licia.

6 A nd there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein.

Allí el centurión halló una nave alejandrina que iba para Italia, y nos embarcó en ella.

7 A nd when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;

Y después de navegar lentamente por muchos días, y de llegar con dificultad frente a Gnido, pues el viento no nos permitió avanzar más, navegamos al abrigo de Creta, frente a Salmón;

8 a nd, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.

y costeándola con dificultad, llegamos a un lugar llamado Buenos Puertos, cerca del cual estaba la ciudad de Lasea. La tempestad en el mar

9 N ow when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,

Cuando ya había pasado mucho tiempo y la navegación se había vuelto peligrosa, pues hasta el Ayuno había pasado ya, Pablo los amonestaba,

10 a nd said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

diciéndoles: Amigos, veo que de seguro este viaje va a ser con perjuicio y graves pérdidas, no sólo del cargamento y de la nave, sino también de nuestras vidas.

11 N evertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

Pero el centurión se persuadió más por lo dicho por el piloto y el capitán del barco, que por lo que Pablo decía.

12 A nd because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

Y como el puerto no era adecuado para invernar, la mayoría tomó la decisión de hacerse a la mar desde allí, por si les era posible arribar a Fenice, un puerto de Creta que mira hacia el nordeste y el sudeste, y pasar el invierno allí.

13 A nd when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.

Cuando comenzó a soplar un moderado viento del sur, creyendo que habían logrado su propósito, levaron anclas y navegaban costeando a Creta.

14 B ut not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.

Pero no mucho después, desde tierra comenzó a soplar un viento huracanado que se llama Euroclidón,

15 A nd when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.

y siendo azotada la nave, y no pudiendo hacer frente al viento nos abandonamos a él y nos dejamos llevar a la deriva.

16 A nd running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:

Navegando al abrigo de una pequeña isla llamada Clauda, con mucha dificultad pudimos sujetar el esquife.

17 w hich when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.

Después que lo alzaron, usaron amarras para ceñir la nave; y temiendo encallar en los bancos de Sirte, echaron el ancla flotante y se abandonaron a la deriva.

18 A nd we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;

Al día siguiente, mientras éramos sacudidos furiosamente por la tormenta, comenzaron a arrojar la carga;

19 a nd the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.

y al tercer día, con sus propias manos arrojaron al mar los aparejos de la nave.

20 A nd when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

Como ni el sol ni las estrellas aparecieron por muchos días, y una tempestad no pequeña se abatía sobre nosotros, desde entonces fuimos abandonando toda esperanza de salvarnos.

21 B ut after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.

Cuando habían pasado muchos días sin comer, Pablo se puso en pie en medio de ellos y dijo: Amigos, debierais haberme hecho caso y no haber zarpado de Creta, evitando así este perjuicio y pérdida.

22 A nd now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.

Pero ahora os exhorto a tener buen ánimo, porque no habrá pérdida de vida entre vosotros, sino sólo del barco.

23 F or there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

Porque esta noche estuvo en mi presencia un ángel del Dios de quien soy y a quien sirvo,

24 s aying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cæsar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

diciendo: “No temas, Pablo; has de comparecer ante el César; y he aquí, Dios te ha concedido todos los que navegan contigo.”

25 W herefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

Por tanto, tened buen ánimo amigos, porque yo confío en Dios, que acontecerá exactamente como se me dijo.

26 H owbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.

Pero tenemos que encallar en cierta isla.

27 B ut when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;

Y llegada la decimocuarta noche, mientras éramos llevados a la deriva en el mar Adriático, a eso de la medianoche los marineros presentían que se estaban acercando a tierra.

28 a nd sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.

Echaron la sonda y hallaron que había veinte brazas; pasando un poco más adelante volvieron a echar la sonda y hallaron quince brazas de profundidad.

29 T hen fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.

Y temiendo que en algún lugar fuéramos a dar contra los escollos, echaron cuatro anclas por la popa y ansiaban que amaneciera.

30 A nd as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,

Como los marineros trataban de escapar de la nave y habían bajado el esquife al mar, bajo pretexto de que se proponían echar las anclas desde la proa,

31 P aul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

Pablo dijo al centurión y a los soldados: Si éstos no permanecen en la nave, vosotros no podréis salvaros.

32 T hen the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.

Entonces los soldados cortaron las amarras del esquife y dejaron que se perdiera.

33 A nd while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

Y hasta que estaba a punto de amanecer, Pablo exhortaba a todos a que tomaran alimento, diciendo: Hace ya catorce días que, velando continuamente, estáis en ayunas, sin tomar ningún alimento.

34 W herefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

Por eso os aconsejo que toméis alimento, porque esto es necesario para vuestra supervivencia; pues ni un solo cabello de la cabeza de ninguno de vosotros perecerá.

35 A nd when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

Habiendo dicho esto, tomó pan y dio gracias a Dios en presencia de todos; y partiéndo lo, comenzó a comer.

36 T hen were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

Entonces todos, teniendo ya buen ánimo, tomaron también alimento.

37 A nd we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.

En total éramos en la nave doscientas setenta y seis personas.

38 A nd when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.

Una vez saciados, aligeraron la nave arrojando el trigo al mar.

39 A nd when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

Cuando se hizo de día, no reconocían la tierra, pero podían distinguir una bahía que tenía playa, y decidieron lanzar la nave hacia ella, si les era posible.

40 A nd when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.

Y cortando las anclas, las dejaron en el mar, aflojando al mismo tiempo las amarras de los timones; e izando la vela de proa al viento, se dirigieron hacia la playa.

41 A nd falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

Pero chocando contra un escollo donde se encuentran dos corrientes, encallaron la nave; la proa se clavó y quedó inmóvil, pero la popa se rompía por la fuerza de las olas.

42 A nd the soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.

Y el plan de los soldados era matar a los presos, para que ninguno de ellos escapara a nado;

43 B ut the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:

pero el centurión, queriendo salvar a Pablo, impidió su propósito, y ordenó que los que pudieran nadar se arrojaran primero por la borda y llegaran a tierra,

44 a nd the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

y que los demás siguieran, algunos en tablones, y otros en diferentes objetos de la nave. Y así sucedió que todos llegaron salvos a tierra.
