1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

Yo, pues, prisionero del Señor, os ruego que viváis de una manera digna de la vocación con que habéis sido llamados,

2 w ith all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

con toda humildad y mansedumbre, con paciencia, soportándoos unos a otros en amor,

3 e ndeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

esforzándoos por preservar la unidad del Espíritu en el vínculo de la paz.

4 T here is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

Hay un solo cuerpo y un solo Espíritu, así como también vosotros fuisteis llamados en una misma esperanza de vuestra vocación;

5 o ne Lord, one faith, one baptism,

un solo Señor, una sola fe, un solo bautismo,

6 o ne God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

un solo Dios y Padre de todos, que está sobre todos, por todos y en todos.

7 B ut unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Pero a cada uno de nosotros se nos ha concedido la gracia conforme a la medida del don de Cristo.

8 W herefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

Por tanto, dice: Cuando ascendio a lo alto, llevo cautiva una hueste de cautivos, y dio dones a los hombres.

9 ( Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

(Esta expresión: Ascendió, ¿qué significa, sino que El también había descendido a las profundidades de la tierra ?

10 H e that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

El que descendió es también el mismo que ascendió mucho más arriba de todos los cielos, para poder llenarlo todo.)

11 A nd he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

Y El dio a algunos el ser apóstoles, a otros profetas, a otros evangelistas, a otros pastores y maestros,

12 f or the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

a fin de capacitar a los santos para la obra del ministerio, para la edificación del cuerpo de Cristo;

13 t ill we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

hasta que todos lleguemos a la unidad de la fe y del conocimiento pleno del Hijo de Dios, a la condición de un hombre maduro, a la medida de la estatura de la plenitud de Cristo;

14 t hat we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

para que ya no seamos niños, sacudidos por las olas y llevados de aquí para allá por todo viento de doctrina, por la astucia de los hombres, por las artimañas engañosas del error;

15 b ut speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

sino que hablando la verdad en amor, crezcamos en todos los aspectos en aquel que es la cabeza, es decir, Cristo,

16 f rom whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

de quien todo el cuerpo (estando bien ajustado y unido por la cohesión que las coyunturas proveen ), conforme al funcionamiento adecuado de cada miembro, produce el crecimiento del cuerpo para su propia edificación en amor. Nueva vida en Cristo

17 T his I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

Esto digo, pues, y afirmo juntamente con el Señor: que ya no andéis así como andan también los gentiles, en la vanidad de su mente,

18 h aving the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

entenebrecidos en su entendimiento, excluidos de la vida de Dios por causa de la ignorancia que hay en ellos, por la dureza de su corazón;

19 w ho being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

y ellos, habiendo llegado a ser insensibles, se entregaron a la sensualidad para cometer con avidez toda clase de impurezas.

20 B ut ye have not so learned Christ;

Pero vosotros no habéis aprendido a Cristo de esta manera,

21 i f so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

si en verdad lo oísteis y habéis sido enseñados en El, conforme a la verdad que hay en Jesús,

22 t hat ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

que en cuanto a vuestra anterior manera de vivir, os despojéis del viejo hombre, que se corrompe según los deseos engañosos,

23 a nd be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

y que seáis renovados en el espíritu de vuestra mente,

24 a nd that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

y os vistáis del nuevo hombre, el cual, en la semejanza de Dios, ha sido creado en la justicia y santidad de la verdad.

25 W herefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Por tanto, dejando a un lado la falsedad, hablad verdad cada cual con su projimo, porque somos miembros los unos de los otros.

26 B e ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

Airaos, pero no pequeis; no se ponga el sol sobre vuestro enojo,

27 n either give place to the devil.

ni deis oportunidad al diablo.

28 L et him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

El que roba, no robe más, sino más bien que trabaje, haciendo con sus manos lo que es bueno, a fin de que tenga qué compartir con el que tiene necesidad.

29 L et no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

No salga de vuestra boca ninguna palabra mala, sino sólo la que sea buena para edificación, según la necesidad del momento, para que imparta gracia a los que escuchan.

30 A nd grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Y no entristezcáis al Espíritu Santo de Dios, por el cual fuisteis sellados para el día de la redención.

31 L et all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

Sea quitada de vosotros toda amargura, enojo, ira, gritos, maledicencia, así como toda malicia.

32 a nd be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Sed más bien amables unos con otros, misericordiosos, perdonándoos unos a otros, así como también Dios os perdonó en Cristo.
