1 L os proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel.

¶ The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel;

2 P ara entender sabiduría y doctrina, Para conocer razones prudentes,

to know wisdom and chastening; to understand prudent words;

3 P ara recibir el consejo de prudencia, Justicia, juicio y equidad;

to receive the chastening of prudence, justice, judgment, and equity;

4 P ara dar sagacidad a los simples, Y a los jóvenes inteligencia y cordura.

to give prudence to the simple, and to the young men knowledge and council.

5 O irá el sabio, y aumentará el saber, Y el entendido adquirirá consejo,

If the wise will hear them, doctrine shall increase, and the man of understanding shall acquire wise counsel:

6 P ara entender proverbio y declaración, Palabras de sabios, y sus dichos profundos.

To understand a parable and the interpretation; the words of the wise and their enigmas.

7 E l principio de la sabiduría es el temor de Jehová; Los insensatos desprecian la sabiduría y la enseñanza. Amonestaciones de la Sabiduría

¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and chastening.

8 O ye, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre, Y no desprecies la dirección de tu madre;

My son, hearken unto the chastening of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

9 P orque adorno de gracia serán a tu cabeza, Y collares a tu cuello.

For they shall be an increase of grace unto thy head and protection about thy neck.

10 H ijo mío, si los pecadores te quisieren engañar, No consientas.

¶ My son, if sinners entice thee, do not consent.

11 S i dijeren: Ven con nosotros; Pongamos asechanzas para derramar sangre, Acechemos sin motivo al inocente;

If they say, Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without cause.

12 L os tragaremos vivos como el Seol, Y enteros, como los que caen en un abismo;

Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol and whole as those that go down into the pit;

13 H allaremos riquezas de toda clase, Llenaremos nuestras casas de despojos;

We shall find all kinds of riches, we shall fill our houses with spoil.

14 E cha tu suerte entre nosotros; Tengamos todos una bolsa.

Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

15 H ijo mío, no andes en camino con ellos. Aparta tu pie de sus veredas,

My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

16 P orque sus pies corren hacia el mal, Y van presurosos a derramar sangre.

For their feet shall run to evil and make haste to shed blood.

17 P orque en vano se tenderá la red Ante los ojos de toda ave;

Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18 P ero ellos a su propia sangre ponen asechanzas, Y a sus almas tienden lazo.

And they lay in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own souls.

19 T ales son las sendas de todo el que es dado a la codicia, La cual quita la vida de sus poseedores.

So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain which takes away the life of those who possess it.

20 L a sabiduría clama en las calles, Alza su voz en las plazas;

¶ Wisdom cries without; she utters her voice in the streets:

21 C lama en los principales lugares de reunión; En las entradas de las puertas de la ciudad dice sus razones.

She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the entrance to the gates of the city she utters her words, saying,

22 ¿ Hasta cuándo, oh simples, amaréis la simpleza, Y los burladores desearán el burlar, Y los insensatos aborrecerán la ciencia?

How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and the fools hate knowledge?

23 V olveos a mi reprensión; He aquí yo derramaré mi espíritu sobre vosotros, Y os haré saber mis palabras.

Return at my reproof; behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

24 P or cuanto llamé, y no quisisteis oír, Extendí mi mano, y no hubo quien atendiese,

Because I have called and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one responded;

25 S ino que desechasteis todo consejo mío Y mi reprensión no quisisteis,

for because ye have disregarded all my counsel and rejected my reproof:

26 T ambién yo me reiré en vuestra calamidad, Y me burlaré cuando os viniere lo que teméis;

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes upon you;

27 C uando viniere como una destrucción lo que teméis, Y vuestra calamidad llegare como un torbellino; Cuando sobre vosotros viniere tribulación y angustia.

when what you have feared comes as destruction, and your calamity comes as a whirlwind; when tribulation and anguish come upon you.

28 E ntonces me llamarán, y no responderé; Me buscarán de mañana, y no me hallarán.

Then they shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29 P or cuanto aborrecieron la sabiduría, Y no escogieron el temor de Jehová,

Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

30 N i quisieron mi consejo, Y menospreciaron toda reprensión mía,

They rejected my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31 C omerán del fruto de su camino, Y serán hastiados de sus propios consejos.

Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own counsel.

32 P orque el desvío de los ignorantes los matará, Y la prosperidad de los necios los echará a perder;

For the rest of the ignorant shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

33 M as el que me oyere, habitará confiadamente Y vivirá tranquilo, sin temor del mal.

But whosoever hearkens unto me shall dwell safely and shall rest from the fear of evil.
