1 T enía entonces toda la tierra una sola lengua y unas mismas palabras.

¶ And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.

2 Y aconteció que cuando salieron de oriente, hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar, y se establecieron allí.

And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3 Y se dijeron unos a otros: Vamos, hagamos ladrillo y cozámoslo con fuego. Y les sirvió el ladrillo en lugar de piedra, y el asfalto en lugar de mezcla.

And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick instead of stone and slime instead of mortar.

4 Y dijeron: Vamos, edifiquémonos una ciudad y una torre, cuya cúspide llegue al cielo; y hagámonos un nombre, por si fuéremos esparcidos sobre la faz de toda la tierra.

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5 Y descendió Jehová para ver la ciudad y la torre que edificaban los hijos de los hombres.

¶ And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of the man built.

6 Y dijo Jehová: He aquí el pueblo es uno, y todos éstos tienen un solo lenguaje; y han comenzado la obra, y nada les hará desistir ahora de lo que han pensado hacer.

And the LORD said, Behold, the people are one, and they all have one language; and they begin to do this, and now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do.

7 A hora, pues, descendamos, y confundamos allí su lengua, para que ninguno entienda el habla de su compañero.

Now, let us go down and there confound their language that they may not understand one another’s speech.

8 A sí los esparció Jehová desde allí sobre la faz de toda la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad.

So the LORD scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth, and they left off to build the city.

9 P or esto fue llamado el nombre de ella Babel, porque allí confundió Jehová el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y desde allí los esparció sobre la faz de toda la tierra. Los descendientes de Sem (1 Cr. 1. 24-27)

Therefore the name of it was called Babel because there the LORD confounded the language of all the earth, and from there the LORD scattered them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

10 E stas son las generaciones de Sem: Sem, de edad de cien años, engendró a Arfaxad, dos años después del diluvio.

¶ These are the generations of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

11 Y vivió Sem, después que engendró a Arfaxad, quinientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years and begat sons and daughters.

12 A rfaxad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró a Sala.

And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years and begat Salah;

13 Y vivió Arfaxad, después que engendró a Sala, cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

and Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years and begat sons and daughters.

14 S ala vivió treinta años, y engendró a Heber.

And Salah lived thirty years and begat Eber;

15 Y vivió Sala, después que engendró a Heber, cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

and Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years and begat sons and daughters.

16 H eber vivió treinta y cuatro años, y engendró a Peleg.

And Eber lived thirty-four years and begat Peleg;

17 Y vivió Heber, después que engendró a Peleg, cuatrocientos treinta años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

and Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years and begat sons and daughters.

18 P eleg vivió treinta años, y engendró a Reu.

And Peleg lived thirty years and begat Reu;

19 Y vivió Peleg, después que engendró a Reu, doscientos nueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

and Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years and begat sons and daughters.

20 R eu vivió treinta y dos años, y engendró a Serug.

And Reu lived thirty-two years and begat Serug;

21 Y vivió Reu, después que engendró a Serug, doscientos siete años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

and Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years and begat sons and daughters.

22 S erug vivió treinta años, y engendró a Nacor.

And Serug lived thirty years and begat Nahor;

23 Y vivió Serug, después que engendró a Nacor, doscientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

and Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years and begat sons and daughters.

24 N acor vivió veintinueve años, y engendró a Taré.

And Nahor lived twenty-nine years and begat Terah;

25 Y vivió Nacor, después que engendró a Taré, ciento diecinueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

and Nahor lived after he begat Terah one hundred and nineteen years and begat sons and daughters.

26 T aré vivió setenta años, y engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán. Los descendientes de Taré

And Terah lived seventy years and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27 E stas son las generaciones de Taré: Taré engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán; y Harán engendró a Lot.

¶ Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

28 Y murió Harán antes que su padre Taré en la tierra de su nacimiento, en Ur de los caldeos.

And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nature, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29 Y tomaron Abram y Nacor para sí mujeres; el nombre de la mujer de Abram era Sarai, y el nombre de la mujer de Nacor, Milca, hija de Harán, padre de Milca y de Isca.

And Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves; the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.

30 M as Sarai era estéril, y no tenía hijo.

But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

31 Y tomó Taré a Abram su hijo, y a Lot hijo de Harán, hijo de su hijo, y a Sarai su nuera, mujer de Abram su hijo, y salió con ellos de Ur de los caldeos, para ir a la tierra de Canaán; y vinieron hasta Harán, y se quedaron allí.

And Terah took Abram, his son, and Lot, the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai, his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife, and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran and dwelt there.

32 Y fueron los días de Taré doscientos cinco años; y murió Taré en Harán.

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.
