1 H abló Jehová a Josué, diciendo:

¶ And the LORD spoke unto Joshua, saying,

2 H abla a los hijos de Israel y diles: Señalaos las ciudades de refugio, de las cuales yo os hablé por medio de Moisés,

Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, Appoint the cities of refuge, of which I spoke unto you by the hand of Moses,

3 p ara que se acoja allí el homicida que matare a alguno por accidente y no a sabiendas; y os servirán de refugio contra el vengador de la sangre.

so that the manslayer who kills any person in error and without knowledge may flee there, and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

4 Y el que se acogiere a alguna de aquellas ciudades, se presentará a la puerta de la ciudad, y expondrá sus razones en oídos de los ancianos de aquella ciudad; y ellos le recibirán consigo dentro de la ciudad, y le darán lugar para que habite con ellos.

And he that flees unto one of these cities shall present himself at the entering of the gate of the city and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city; they shall receive him into the city among them and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

5 S i el vengador de la sangre le siguiere, no entregarán en su mano al homicida, por cuanto hirió a su prójimo por accidente, y no tuvo con él ninguna enemistad antes.

And when the avenger of blood pursues after him, they shall not deliver the manslayer up into his hand because he smote his neighbour by error, nor did he have enmity with him before.

6 Y quedará en aquella ciudad hasta que comparezca en juicio delante de la congregación, y hasta la muerte del que fuere sumo sacerdote en aquel tiempo; entonces el homicida podrá volver a su ciudad y a su casa y a la ciudad de donde huyó.

And he shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days; then shall the manslayer return, and come unto his own city and unto his own house unto the city from where he fled.

7 E ntonces señalaron a Cedes en Galilea, en el monte de Neftalí, Siquem en el monte de Efraín, y Quiriat-arba (que es Hebrón) en el monte de Judá.

¶ Then they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in the mountain of Naphtali and Shechem in the mountain of Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.

8 Y al otro lado del Jordán al oriente de Jericó, señalaron a Beser en el desierto, en la llanura de la tribu de Rubén, Ramot en Galaad de la tribu de Gad, y Golán en Basán de la tribu de Manasés.

And on the other side of the Jordan of Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

9 E stas fueron las ciudades señaladas para todos los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero que morase entre ellos, para que se acogiese a ellas cualquiera que hiriese a alguno por accidente, a fin de que no muriese por mano del vengador de la sangre, hasta que compareciese delante de la congregación.

These were the cities appointed for all the sons of Israel and for the stranger that sojourns among them that anyone who kills any person by error might flee there and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood until he stands before the congregation.
