1 Д ля дириґетна хору. Синів Кореєвих. Псалом навчальний. (44-2) Боже, своїми ушима ми чули, наші батьки нам оповідали: велике Ти діло вчинив за їхніх днів, за днів стародавніх:

We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

2 ( 44-3) Ти вигнав поганів Своєю рукою, а їх осадив, понищив народи, а їх Ти поширив!

How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

3 ( 44-4) Не мечем бо своїм вони землю посіли, і їхнє рамено їм не помогло, а правиця Твоя та рамено Твоє, та Світло обличчя Твого, бо Ти їх уподобав!

For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

4 ( 44-5) Ти Сам Цар мій, о Боже, звели ж про спасіння для Якова:

Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

5 ( 44-6) Тобою поб'ємо своїх ворогів, ім'ям Твоїм будемо топтати повсталих на нас,

Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

6 ( 44-7) бо я буду надіятися не на лука свого, і мій меч не поможе мені,

For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7 ( 44-8) але Ти нас спасеш від противників наших, і наших ненависників засоромиш!

But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

8 ( 44-9) Ми хвалимось Богом щодня, і повіки ім'я Твоє славимо, Села,

In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

9 ( 44-10) та однак Ти покинув і нас засоромив, і вже не виходиш із нашими військами:

But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.

10 ( 44-11) Ти вчинив, що від ворога ми обернулись назад, а наші ненависники грабували собі наш маєток...

Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.

11 ( 44-12) Ти віддав нас на поїд, немов тих овечок, і нас розпорошив посеред народів,

Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.

12 ( 44-13) Ти за безцін продав Свій народ, і ціни йому не побільшив!

Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.

13 ( 44-14) Ти нас нашим сусідам віддав на зневагу, на наругу та посміх для наших околиць,

Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

14 ( 44-15) Ти нас учинив за прислів'я поганам, і головою хитають народи на нас...

Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

15 ( 44-16) Передо мною щоденно безчестя моє, і сором вкриває обличчя моє,

My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,

16 ( 44-17) через голос того, хто лає мене й проклинає, через ворога й месника...

For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.

17 ( 44-18) Прийшло було все це на нас, та ми не забули про Тебе, й заповіту Твого не порушили,

All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

18 ( 44-19) не вступилось назад наше серце, і не відхилився наш крок від Твоєї дороги!

Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

19 ( 44-20) Хоч у місце шакалів Ти випхнув був нас, і прикрив був нас смертною тінню,

Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

20 ( 44-21) чи й тоді ми забули ім'я Бога нашого, і руки свої простягнули до Бога чужого?

If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

21 ( 44-22) Таж про те Бог довідається, бо Він знає таємності серця,

Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

22 ( 44-23) що нас побивають за Тебе щоденно, пораховано нас, як овечок жертовних...

Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

23 ( 44-24) Прокинься ж, для чого Ти, Господи, спиш? Пробудися, не кидай назавжди!

Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.

24 ( 44-25) Для чого обличчя Своє Ти ховаєш, забуваєш про нашу недолю та нашу тісноту?

Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?

25 ( 44-26) Бо душа наша знижилася аж до пороху, а живіт наш приліг до землі...

For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.

26 ( 44-27) Устань же, о Помоче наша, і викупи нас через милість Свою!

Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies' sake.
