1 E ra entonces toda la tierra de una sola lengua y unas mismas palabras.

And the whole earth had one language, and the same words.

2 Y aconteció que cuando salieron de oriente, hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar, y se establecieron allí.

And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.

3 Y se dijeron unos a otros: Vamos, hagamos ladrillo y cozámoslo con fuego. Y les sirvió el ladrillo en lugar de piedra, y el asfalto en lugar de mezcla.

And they said one to another, Come on, let us make bricks, and burn thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.

4 Y dijeron: Vamos, edifiquémonos una ciudad y una torre, cuya cúspide llegue al cielo; y hagámonos un nombre, por si fuésemos esparcidos sobre la faz de toda la tierra.

And they said, Come on, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, the top of which to the heavens; and let us make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth.

5 Y descendió Jehová para ver la ciudad y la torre que edificaban los hijos de los hombres.

And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower which the children of men built.

6 Y dijo Jehová: He aquí el pueblo es uno, y todos éstos tienen un solo lenguaje; y han comenzado la obra, y nada les hará desistir ahora de lo que han pensado hacer.

And Jehovah said, Behold, the people is one, and have all one language; and this have they begun to do. And now will they be hindered in nothing that they meditate doing.

7 A hora, pues, descendamos, y confundamos allí su lengua, para que ninguno entienda el habla de su compañero.

Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

8 A sí los esparció Jehová desde allí sobre la faz de toda la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad.

And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth. And they left off building the city.

9 P or esto fue llamado el nombre de ella Babel, porque allí confundió Jehová el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y desde allí los esparció sobre la faz de toda la tierra. Generaciones de Sem

Therefore was its name called Babel; because Jehovah there confounded the language of the whole earth. And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth.

10 E stos son los descendientes de Sem: Sem, de edad de cien años, engendró a Arfaxad, dos años después del diluvio.

These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.

11 Y vivió Sem, después que engendró a Arfaxad, quinientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Shem lived after he had begotten Arphaxad five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.

12 A rfaxad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró a Sala.

And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Shelah.

13 Y vivió Arfaxad, después que engendró a Sala, cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Shelah four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.

14 S ala vivió treinta años, y engendró a Heber.

And Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.

15 Y vivió Sala, después que engendró a Heber, cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Shelah lived after he had begotten Eber four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.

16 H eber vivió treinta y cuatro años, y engendró a Peleg.

And Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.

17 Y vivió Heber, después que engendró a Peleg, cuatrocientos treinta años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Eber lived after he had begotten Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.

18 P eleg vivió treinta años, y engendró a Reu.

And Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.

19 Y vivió Peleg, después que engendró a Reu, doscientos nueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Peleg lived after he had begotten Reu two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.

20 R eu vivió treinta y dos años, y engendró a Serug.

And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.

21 Y vivió Reu, después que engendró a Serug, doscientos siete años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Reu lived after he had begotten Serug two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.

22 S erug vivió treinta años, y engendró a Nacor.

And Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.

23 Y vivió Serug, después que engendró a Nacor, doscientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Serug lived after he had begotten Nahor two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.

24 N acor vivió veintinueve años, y engendró a Taré.

And Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.

25 Y vivió Nacor, después que engendró a Taré, ciento diecinueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Nahor lived after he had begotten Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.

26 T aré vivió setenta años, y engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán. Generaciones de Taré

And Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27 E stos son los descendientes de Taré: Taré engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán; y Harán engendró a Lot.

And these are the generations of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot.

28 Y murió Harán antes que su padre Taré en la tierra de su nacimiento, en Ur de los caldeos.

And Haran died before the face of his father Terah in the land of his nativity at Ur of the Chaldeans.

29 Y tomaron Abram y Nacor para sí mujeres; el nombre de la mujer de Abram era Saray, y el nombre de la mujer de Nacor, Milca, hija de Harán, padre de Milca y de Isca.

And Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, a daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.

30 M as Saray era estéril, y no tenía hijo.

And Sarai was barren: she had no child.

31 Y tomó Taré a Abram su hijo, y a Lot hijo de Harán, hijo de su hijo, y a Saray su nuera, mujer de Abram su hijo, y salió con ellos de Ur de los caldeos, para ir a la tierra de Canaán; y vinieron hasta Harán, y se quedaron allí.

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth together out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan, and came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.

32 Y fueron los días de Taré doscientos cinco años; y murió Taré en Harán.

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.
