1 E l día veinticuatro del mismo mes se reunieron los hijos de Israel en ayuno, vestidos de saco y con la cabeza cubierta de polvo.

And on the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes, and earth upon them.

2 Y ya se había apartado la descendencia de Israel de todos los extranjeros; y puestos en pie, confesaron sus pecados, y las iniquidades de sus padres.

And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.

3 Y puestos de pie en su lugar, leyeron el libro de la ley de Jehová su Dios la cuarta parte del día, y durante otra cuarta parte confesaron sus pecados y adoraron a Jehová su Dios.

And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of Jehovah their God a fourth part of the day; and a fourth part they confessed, and worshipped Jehovah their God.

4 L uego se levantaron sobre la grada de los levitas, Jesúa, Baní, Cadmiel, Sebanías, Buní, Serebías, Baní y Quenaní, y clamaron en voz alta a Jehová su Dios.

Then stood up upon the platform of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, Chenani, and cried with a loud voice to Jehovah their God.

5 Y dijeron los levitas Jesúa, Cadmiel, Baní, Hasabnías, Serebías, Hodiyías, Sebanías y Petaías: Levantaos, bendecid a Jehová vuestro Dios desde la eternidad hasta la eternidad; y bendígase el nombre tuyo, glorioso y alto sobre toda bendición y alabanza.

And the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, Pethahiah, said, Stand up, bless Jehovah your God from eternity to eternity. And let bless the name of thy glory, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

6 T ú solo eres Jehová; tú hiciste los cielos, y los cielos de los cielos, con todo su ejército, la tierra y todo lo que está en ella, los mares y todo lo que hay en ellos; y tú vivificas todas estas cosas, y los ejércitos de los cielos te adoran.

Thou art the Same, thou alone, Jehovah, who hast made the heaven of heavens, and all their host, the earth and all that is therein, the seas and all that is therein. And thou quickenest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

7 T ú eres, oh Jehová, el Dios que escogiste a Abram, y lo sacaste de Ur de los caldeos, y le pusiste por nombre Abraham;

Thou art the Same, Jehovah Elohim, who didst choose Abram and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;

8 y hallaste fiel su corazón delante de ti, e hiciste pacto con él para darle la tierra del cananeo, del heteo, del amorreo, del ferezeo, del jebuseo y del gergeseo, para darla a su descendencia; y cumpliste tu palabra, porque eres justo.

and foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest the covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites,—to give it to his seed; and thou hast performed thy words, for thou art righteous.

9 Y miraste la aflicción de nuestros padres en Egipto, y oíste el clamor de ellos en el Mar Rojo;

And thou sawest the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by the Red Sea;

10 e hiciste señales y prodigios contra Faraón, contra todos sus siervos, y contra todo el pueblo de su tierra, porque sabías que habían procedido con soberbia contra ellos; y te hiciste nombre grande hasta el día de hoy.

and didst shew signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and upon all his servants, and upon all the people of his land; for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them, and thou didst make thee a name, as it is this day.

11 D ividiste el mar delante de ellos, y pasaron por medio de él en seco; y echaste a sus perseguidores en las profundidades, como una piedra en profundas aguas.

And thou didst divide the sea before them, and they went through the midst of the sea on dry; and their pursuers thou threwest into the depths, as a stone into the mighty waters.

12 C on columna de nube los guiaste de día, y con columna de fuego de noche, para alumbrarles el camino por donde habían de ir.

And thou leddest them in the day by a pillar of cloud, and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go.

13 Y sobre el monte de Sinay descendiste, y hablaste con ellos desde el cielo, y les diste juicios rectos, leyes verdaderas, y estatutos y mandamientos excelentes,

And thou camest down on mount Sinai, and didst speak with them from the heavens, and gavest them right judgments and true laws, good statutes and commandments.

14 y les ordenaste el día del sábado como santo para ti, y por mano de Moisés tu siervo les prescribiste mandamientos, estatutos y la ley.

And thou madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and prescribedst for them commandments and statutes and a law, through Moses thy servant.

15 L es diste pan del cielo en su hambre, y en su sed les sacaste aguas de la peña; y les dijiste que entrasen a poseer la tierra, por la cual alzaste tu mano y juraste que se la darías.

And thou gavest them bread from the heavens for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and didst say to them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them.

16 M as ellos y nuestros padres fueron soberbios, y endurecieron su cerviz, y no escucharon tus mandamientos.

But they, our fathers, dealt proudly, and hardened their neck, and hearkened not to thy commandments,

17 N o quisieron oír, ni se acordaron de tus maravillas que habías hecho con ellos; antes endurecieron su cerviz, y en su rebelión pensaron nombrar un jefe para volverse a su servidumbre. Pero tú eres Dios que perdonas, clemente y piadoso, tardo para la ira, y grande en misericordia, porque no los abandonaste.

and refused to obey, neither were they mindful of thy wonders which thou hadst done among them; but hardened their neck, and in their rebellion made a captain to return to their bondage. But thou art a +God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great loving-kindness, and thou forsookest them not.

18 A demás, cuando hicieron para sí becerro de fundición y dijeron: Éste es tu Dios que te hizo subir de Egipto; y cometieron grandes abominaciones,

Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This is thy god that brought thee up out of Egypt! and they had wrought great provocation,

19 t ú, con todo, por tus muchas misericordias no los abandonaste en el desierto. La columna de nube no se apartó de ellos de día, para guiarlos por el camino, ni de noche la columna de fuego, para alumbrarles el camino por el cual habían de ir.

yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness. The pillar of the cloud departed not from over them by day, to lead them on the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.

20 Y diste tu buen Espíritu para enseñarles, y no retiraste tu maná de su boca, y agua les diste para su sed.

Thou gavest also thy good Spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.

21 L os sustentaste cuarenta años en el desierto; de ninguna cosa tuvieron necesidad; sus vestidos no se envejecieron, ni se hincharon sus pies.

Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing; their clothes grew not old, and their feet swelled not.

22 Y les diste reinos y pueblos, y los repartiste por distritos; y poseyeron la tierra de Sehón, la tierra del rey de Hesbón, y la tierra de Og rey de Basán.

And thou gavest them kingdoms and peoples, and didst divide them by countries; and they possessed the land of Sihon, as well the land of the king of Heshbon, as the land of Og king of Bashan.

23 M ultiplicaste sus hijos como las estrellas del cielo, y los llevaste a la tierra de la cual habías dicho a sus padres que habían de entrar a poseerla.

And their children thou didst multiply as the stars of heaven, and thou broughtest them into the land concerning which thou didst say to their fathers that they should go in to possess it.

24 Y los hijos vinieron y poseyeron la tierra, y humillaste delante de ellos a los moradores del país, a los cananeos, los cuales entregaste en su mano, y a sus reyes, y a los pueblos de la tierra, para que hiciesen de ellos como quisieran.

And the children went in and possessed the land; and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, both their kings and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they would.

25 Y tomaron ciudades fortificadas y tierra fértil, y heredaron casas llenas de todo bien, cisternas hechas, viñas y olivares, y muchos árboles frutales; comieron, se saciaron, y se deleitaron en tu gran bondad.

And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all good things, wells digged, vineyards and olive-gardens, and fruit trees in abundance. And they did eat and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.

26 P ero te provocaron a ira, y se rebelaron contra ti, y echaron tu ley tras sus espaldas, y mataron a tus profetas que protestaban contra ellos para convertirlos a ti, e hicieron grandes abominaciones.

But they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets who testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.

27 E ntonces los entregaste en mano de sus enemigos, los cuales los afligieron. Pero en el tiempo de su tribulación clamaron a ti, y tú desde los cielos los oíste; y según tu gran misericordia les enviaste libertadores para que los salvasen de mano de sus enemigos.

And thou gavest them into the hand of their oppressors, and they oppressed them; and in the time of their distress, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from the heavens, and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their oppressors.

28 P ero una vez que tenían paz, volvían a hacer lo malo delante de ti, por lo cual los abandonaste en mano de sus enemigos que los dominaron; pero volvían y clamaban otra vez a ti, y tú desde los cielos los oías y según tus misericordias muchas veces los libraste.

But when they had rest, they did evil again before thee; and thou didst leave them in the hand of their enemies, and they had dominion over them; and again they cried unto thee, and thou heardest from the heavens, and many times didst thou deliver them, according to thy mercies.

29 L es amonestaste a que se volviesen a tu ley; mas ellos se llenaron de soberbia, y no oyeron tus mandamientos, sino que pecaron contra tus normas, las cuales si el hombre las cumple, en ellas vivirá; se rebelaron, endurecieron su cerviz, y no escucharon.

And thou testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law; but they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thine ordinances (which if a man do, he shall live in them); and they withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.

30 L os soportaste por muchos años, y les testificaste con tu Espíritu por medio de tus profetas, pero no escucharon; por lo cual los entregaste en manos de los pueblos de la tierra.

And many years didst thou forbear with them, and testifiedst against them by thy Spirit through thy prophets; but they would not give ear: and thou gavest them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

31 M as por tu gran misericordia no los consumiste, ni los desamparaste; porque eres Dios clemente y misericordioso.

Nevertheless for thy manifold mercies' sake, thou didst not make a full end of them nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.

32 A hora, pues, Dios nuestro, Dios grande, fuerte, temible, que guardas el pacto y la misericordia, no sea tenido en poco delante de ti todo el sufrimiento que ha alcanzado a nuestros reyes, a nuestros príncipes, a nuestros sacerdotes, a nuestros profetas, a nuestros padres y a todo tu pueblo, desde los días de los reyes de Asiria hasta este día.

And now, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and loving-kindness, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the days of the kings of Assyria unto this day.

33 P ero tú eres justo en todo lo que ha venido sobre nosotros; porque rectamente has hecho, mas nosotros hemos hecho lo malo.

But thou art just in all that is come upon us; for thou hast acted according to truth, and we have done wickedly.

34 N uestros reyes, nuestros príncipes, nuestros sacerdotes y nuestros padres no pusieron por obra tu ley, ni atendieron a tus mandamientos y a tus testimonios con que les amonestabas.

And our kings, our princes, our priests, and our fathers, have not performed thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them.

35 Y ellos en su reino y en medio de la gran prosperidad que les diste, y en la tierra espaciosa y fértil que entregaste delante de ellos, no te sirvieron, ni se convirtieron de sus malas obras.

And they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land that thou didst set before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.

36 H e aquí que hoy somos esclavos; henos aquí, siervos en la tierra que diste a nuestros padres para que comiesen su fruto y su bien.

Behold, we are servants this day, and the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are bondmen in it.

37 Y sus abundantes productos son para los reyes que has puesto sobre nosotros por nuestros pecados, quienes se enseñorean sobre nuestros cuerpos, y sobre nuestros ganados, conforme a su capricho, y estamos en gran angustia. Pacto del pueblo, de guardar la ley

And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: and they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure; and we are in great distress.

38 A causa, pues, de todo esto, nosotros hacemos fiel promesa, y la escribimos, firmada por nuestros príncipes, por nuestros levitas y por nuestros sacerdotes.

And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, our Levites, our priests are at the sealing.
