1 P ero cierto hombre llamado Ananías, con Safira su mujer, vendió una heredad,

But a certain man, Ananias by name, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2 y se quedó con parte del precio, sabiéndolo también su mujer; y trayendo sólo una parte, la puso a los pies de los apóstoles.

and put aside for himself part of the price, wife also being privy to it; and having brought a certain part, laid it at the feet of the apostles.

3 Y dijo Pedro: Ananías, ¿por qué llenó Satanás tu corazón para que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, y te quedases con parte del precio de la heredad?

But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled thy heart that thou shouldest lie to the Holy Spirit, and put aside for thyself a part of the price of the estate?

4 R eteniéndola, ¿no se te quedaba a ti?; y vendida, ¿no estaba en tu poder? ¿Por qué pusiste esto en tu corazón? No has mentido a los hombres, sino a Dios.

While it remained did it not remain to thee? and sold, was in thine own power? Why is it that thou hast purposed this thing in thine heart? Thou hast not lied to men, but to God.

5 A l oír Ananías estas palabras, cayó y expiró. Y vino un gran temor sobre todos los que lo oyeron.

And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and expired. And great fear came upon all who heard.

6 Y levantándose los jóvenes, lo envolvieron, y sacándolo, lo sepultaron.

And the young men, rising up, swathed him up for burial, and having carried him out, buried him.

7 P asado un lapso como de tres horas, sucedió que entró su mujer, no sabiendo lo que había acontecido.

And it came to pass about three hours afterwards, that his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.

8 E ntonces Pedro le preguntó: Dime, ¿vendisteis en tanto la heredad? Y ella dijo: Sí, en tanto.

And Peter answered her, Tell me if ye gave the estate for so much? And she said, Yes, for so much.

9 Y Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué os pusisteis de acuerdo para tentar al Espíritu del Señor? He aquí a la puerta los pies de los que han sepultado a tu marido, y te sacarán a ti.

And Peter said to her, Why that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of Lord? Lo, the feet of those that have buried thy husband at the door, and they shall carry thee out.

10 A l instante ella cayó a los pies de él, y expiró; y cuando entraron los jóvenes, la hallaron muerta; y la sacaron, y la sepultaron junto a su marido.

And she fell down immediately at his feet and expired. And when the young men came in they found her dead; and, having carried her out, they buried her by her husband.

11 Y vino gran temor sobre toda la iglesia, y sobre todos los que oían estas cosas. Muchas señales y maravillas

And great fear came upon all the assembly, and upon all who heard these things.

12 Y por manos de los apóstoles se hacían muchas señales y prodigios en el pueblo; y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón.

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders done among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch,

13 D e los demás, ninguno se atrevía a juntarse con ellos; pero el pueblo los alababa grandemente.

but of the rest durst no man join them, but the people magnified them;

14 Y cada vez se adherían al Señor más creyentes, gran número así de hombres como de mujeres;

and believers were more than ever added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women;)

15 t anto que sacaban los enfermos a las calles, y los ponían en lechos y camillas, para que al pasar Pedro, a lo menos su sombra cubriese a alguno de ellos.

so that they brought out the sick into the streets and put on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter, when he came, might overshadow some one of them.

16 Y aun de las ciudades circunvecinas de Jerusalén venían muchos, trayendo enfermos y atormentados de espíritus inmundos; y todos eran sanados. Arresto y liberación de Pedro y Juan

And the multitude also of the cities round about came together to Jerusalem, bringing sick persons and persons beset by unclean spirits, who were all healed.

17 E ntonces, levantándose el sumo sacerdote y todos los que estaban con él, esto es, la secta de los saduceos, se llenaron de celos;

And the high priest rising up, and all they that were with him, which is the sect of the Sadducees, were filled with wrath,

18 y echaron mano a los apóstoles y los pusieron en la cárcel pública.

and laid hands on the apostles and put them in the public prison.

19 M as un ángel del Señor, abrió de noche las puertas de la cárcel y, sacándolos, dijo:

But an angel of Lord during the night opened the doors of the prison, and leading them out, said,

20 I d, y puestos en pie en el templo, hablad al pueblo todas las palabras de esta vida.

Go ye and stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

21 H abiendo oído esto, entraron al amanecer en el templo, y enseñaban. Entretanto, se presentaron el sumo sacerdote y los que estaban con él, y convocaron al sanedrín y a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel, y enviaron a la cárcel para que fuesen traídos.

And when they heard it, they entered very early into the temple and taught. And when the high priest was come, and they that were with him, they called together the council and all the elderhood of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

22 P ero cuando llegaron los alguaciles, no los hallaron en la cárcel; entonces volvieron e informaron,

And when the officers were come, they did not find them in the prison; and returned and reported

23 d iciendo: Por cierto, hemos hallado la cárcel cerrada con toda seguridad, y los guardias afuera de pie ante las puertas; mas cuando abrimos, a nadie hallamos dentro.

saying, We found the prison shut with all security, and the keepers standing at the doors; but when we had opened, within we found no one.

24 C uando oyeron estas palabras el sumo sacerdote y el jefe de la guardia del templo y los principales sacerdotes, se preguntaban perplejos en qué vendría a parar aquello.

And when they heard these words, both the priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests were in perplexity as to them, what this would come to.

25 P ero se presentó uno, que les dio esta noticia: He aquí, los varones que pusiste en la cárcel están en pie en el templo, y enseñan al pueblo.

And some one coming reported to them, Lo, the men whom ye put in the prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people.

26 E ntonces fue el jefe de la guardia con los alguaciles, y los trajo sin violencia, porque temían ser apedreados por el pueblo.

Then the captain, having gone with the officers, brought them, not with violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.

27 C uando los trajeron, los presentaron en el sanedrín, y el sumo sacerdote les preguntó,

And they bring them and set them in the council. And the high priest asked them,

28 d iciendo: ¿No os mandamos estrictamente que no enseñaseis en ese nombre? Y ahora habéis llenado a Jerusalén de vuestra enseñanza, y queréis hacer recaer sobre nosotros la sangre de ese hombre.

saying, We strictly enjoined you not to teach in this name: and lo, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and purpose to bring upon us the blood of this man.

29 R espondiendo Pedro y los apóstoles, dijeron: Hay que obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres.

But Peter answering, and the apostles, said, God must be obeyed rather than men.

30 E l Dios de nuestros padres levantó a Jesús, a quien vosotros matasteis colgándole en un madero.

The God of our fathers has raised up Jesus, whom ye have slain, having hanged on a cross.

31 A éste, Dios ha exaltado con su diestra por Jefe y Salvador, para dar a Israel arrepentimiento y perdón de pecados.

Him has God exalted by his right hand as leader and saviour, to give repentance to Israel and remission of sins.

32 Y nosotros somos testigos suyos de estas cosas, y también el Espíritu Santo, el cual ha dado Dios a los que le obedecen.

And we are witnesses of these things, and the Holy Spirit also, which God has given to those that obey him.

33 E llos, oyendo esto, se sentían heridos en lo más vivo y querían matarlos.

But they, when they heard, were cut to the heart, and took counsel to kill them.

34 E ntonces, levantándose en el sanedrín un fariseo llamado Gamaliel, doctor de la ley, venerado de todo el pueblo, mandó que sacasen fuera por un momento a los apóstoles,

But a certain, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, held in honour of all the people, rose up in the council, and commanded to put the men out for a short while,

35 y luego les dijo: Varones israelitas, tened cuidado de lo que vais a hacer respecto a estos hombres.

and said to them, Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves as regards these men what ye are going to do;

36 P orque antes de estos días se levantó Teudas, diciendo que era alguien. A éste se unió un número como de cuatrocientos hombres; pero él fue muerto, y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados y quedaron en nada.

for before these days Theudas rose up, alleging himself to be somebody, to whom a number of men, about four hundred, were joined; who was slain, and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed and came to nothing.

37 D espués de éste, se levantó Judas el galileo, en los días del censo, y llevó en pos de sí a bastante gente. Pereció también él, y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados.

After him rose Judas the Galilean in the days of the census, and drew away people after him; and he perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.

38 Y en lo de ahora, os digo: Apartaos de estos hombres, y dejadlos en paz; porque si este plan o esta obra es de los hombres, se desvanecerá;

And now I say to you, Withdraw from these men and let them alone, for if this counsel or this work have its origin from men, it will be destroyed;

39 m as si es de Dios, no la podréis destruir; no sea que os encontréis luchando contra Dios.

but if it be from God, ye will not be able to put them down, lest ye be found also fighters against God.

40 Y fueron persuadidos por él; y llamando a los apóstoles, después de azotarlos, les intimaron que no hablasen en el nombre de Jesús, y los pusieron en libertad.

And they listened to his advice; and having called the apostles, they beat them, and enjoined them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and dismissed them.

41 Y ellos salieron de la presencia del sanedrín, gozosos de haber sido tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por causa del Nombre.

They therefore went their way from presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to be dishonoured for the name.

42 Y todos los días, en el templo y por las casas, no cesaban de enseñar y predicar a Jesucristo.

And every day, in the temple and in the houses, they ceased not teaching and announcing the glad tidings that Jesus the Christ.
