1 C uando se decidió que habíamos de navegar para Italia, entregaron a Pablo y a algunos otros presos a un centurión llamado Julio, de la compañía Augusta.

But when it had been determined that we should sail to Italy, they delivered up Paul and certain other prisoners to a centurion, by name Julius, of Augustus' company.

2 Y embarcándonos en una nave adramitena que estaba para zarpar hacia los puertos de Asia, nos hicimos a la mar, estando con nosotros Aristarco, macedonio de Tesalónica.

And going on board a ship of Adramyttium about to navigate by the places along Asia, we set sail, Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

3 A l otro día llegamos a Sidón; y Julio, tratando humanamente a Pablo, le permitió que fuese a los amigos, para ser atendido por ellos.

And the next day we arrived at Sidon. And Julius treated Paul kindly and suffered him to go to his friends and refresh himself.

4 Y haciéndonos a la vela desde allí, navegamos a sotavento de Chipre, porque los vientos eran contrarios.

And setting sail thence we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

5 H abiendo atravesado el mar frente a Cilicia y Panfilia, arribamos a Mira, ciudad de Licia.

And having sailed over the waters of Cilicia and Pamphylia we came to Myra in Lycia:

6 Y hallando allí el centurión una nave alejandrina que zarpaba para Italia, nos embarcó en ella.

and there the centurion having found a ship of Alexandria sailing to Italy, he made us go on board her.

7 N avegando muchos días despacio, y llegando a duras penas frente a Gnído, como el viento no nos permitía más, navegamos a sotavento de Creta, frente a Salmona.

And sailing slowly for many days, and having with difficulty got abreast of Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under the lee of Crete abreast of Salmone;

8 Y costeándola con dificultad, llegamos a un lugar que llaman Buenos Puertos, cerca del cual estaba la ciudad de Lasea.

and coasting it with difficulty we came to a certain place called Fair Havens, near to which was city of Lasaea.

9 Y habiendo pasado mucho tiempo, y siendo ya peligrosa la navegación, por haber pasado ya el ayuno, Pablo les amonestaba,

And much time having now been spent, and navigation being already dangerous, because the fast also was already past, Paul counselled them,

10 d iciéndoles: Varones, veo que la navegación va a ser con perjuicio y mucha pérdida, no sólo del cargamento y de la nave, sino también de nuestras personas.

saying, Men, I perceive that the navigation will be with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.

11 P ero el centurión daba más crédito al piloto y al patrón de la nave, que a lo que Pablo decía.

But the centurion believed rather the helmsman and the shipowner than what was said by Paul.

12 Y siendo el puerto inadecuado para invernar, la mayoría acordó zarpar también de allí, por si pudiesen arribar a Fénice, puerto de Creta que mira al sudoeste y noroeste, e invernar allí. La tempestad en el mar

And the harbour being ill adapted to winter in, the most counselled to set sail thence, if perhaps they might reach Phoenice to winter in, a port of Crete looking north-east and south-east.

13 Y soplando una brisa del sur, pareciéndoles que ya habían conseguido su propósito, levaron anclas e iban costeando Creta.

And south wind blowing gently, supposing that they had gained their object, having weighed anchor they sailed close in shore along Crete.

14 P ero no mucho después dio contra la nave un viento huracanado llamado Euroclidón.

But not long after there came down it a hurricane called Euroclydon.

15 Y siendo arrastrada la nave, y no pudiendo poner proa al viento, nos abandonamos a él y nos dejamos llevar.

And the ship being caught and driven, and not able to bring her head to the wind, letting her go we were driven.

16 Y habiendo corrido a sotavento de una pequeña isla llamada Clauda, con dificultad pudimos hacernos con el esquife.

But running under the lee of a certain island called Clauda, we were with difficulty able to make ourselves masters of the boat;

17 Y una vez subido a bordo, usaron de refuerzos para ceñir la nave; y teniendo temor de dar en la Sirte, arriaron las velas y quedaron a la deriva.

which having hoisted up, they used helps, frapping the ship; and fearing lest they should run into Syrtis and run aground, and having lowered the gear they were so driven.

18 P ero siendo combatidos por una furiosa tempestad, al día siguiente empezaron a aligerar la nave,

But the storm being extremely violent on us, on the next day they threw cargo overboard,

19 y al tercer día con nuestras propias manos arrojamos los aparejos de la nave.

and on the third day with their own hands they cast away the ship furniture.

20 Y no apareciendo ni sol ni estrellas por muchos días, y acosados por una tempestad no pequeña, ya se fue perdiendo toda esperanza de salvarnos.

And neither sun nor stars appearing for many days, and no small storm lying on us, in the end all hope of our being saved was taken away.

21 E ntonces Pablo, como hacía ya mucho que no comíamos, puesto en pie en medio de ellos, dijo: Debíais, oh varones, haberme hecho caso, y no zarpar de Creta tan sólo para recibir este perjuicio y pérdida.

And when they had been a long while without taking food, Paul then standing up in the midst of them said, Ye ought, O men, to have hearkened to me, and not have made sail from Crete and have gained this disaster and loss.

22 P ero ahora os exhorto a tener buen ánimo, pues no habrá ninguna pérdida de vida entre vosotros, sino solamente de la nave.

And now I exhort you to be of good courage, for there shall be no loss at all of life of of you, only of the ship.

23 P orque esta noche ha estado conmigo el ángel del Dios de quien soy y a quien sirvo,

For an angel of the God, whose I am and whom I serve, stood by me this night,

24 y me ha dicho: Pablo, no temas; es menester que comparezcas ante César; y mira, Dios te ha concedido todos los que navegan contigo.

saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must stand before Caesar; and behold, God has granted to thee all those that sail with thee.

25 P or tanto, oh varones, tened buen ánimo; porque yo confío en Dios que acontecerá exactamente como se me ha dicho.

Wherefore be of good courage, men, for I believe God that thus it shall be, as it has been said to me.

26 C on todo, tenemos que encallar en cierta isla.

But we must be cast ashore on a certain island.

27 C uando llegó la decimocuarta noche, y éramos llevados a través del mar Adriático, a la medianoche los marineros comenzaron a presentir que estaban cerca de tierra;

And when the fourteenth night was come, we being driven about in Adria, towards the middle of the night the sailors supposed that some land neared them,

28 y echando la sonda, hallaron veinte brazas; y pasando un poco más adelante, volviendo a echar la sonda, hallaron quince brazas.

and having sounded found twenty fathoms, and having gone a little farther and having again sounded they found fifteen fathoms;

29 Y temiendo dar en escollos, echaron cuatro anclas por la popa, y ansiaban que se hiciese de día.

and fearing lest we should be cast on rocky places, casting four anchors out of the stern, they wished that day were come.

30 P ero como los marineros procuraban huir de la nave, y habían echado el esquife al mar, aparentando como que iban a tender las anclas de proa,

But the sailors wishing to flee out of the ship, and having let down the boat into the sea under pretext of being about to carry out anchors from the prow,

31 d ijo Pablo al centurión y a los soldados: Si éstos no permanecen en la nave, vosotros no podéis salvaros.

Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, Unless these abide in the ship ye cannot be saved.

32 E ntonces los soldados cortaron las amarras del esquife y lo dejaron perderse.

Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat and let her fall.

33 Y hasta que empezó a hacerse de día, Pablo exhortaba a todos a que comiesen, diciendo: Éste es el decimocuarto día que veláis y permanecéis en ayunas, sin haber comido nada.

And while it was drawing on to daylight, Paul exhorted them all to partake of food, saying, Ye have passed the fourteenth day watching in expectation without taking food.

34 P or tanto, os ruego que comáis algo, porque es conveniente para vuestra salud; pues ni aun un cabello de la cabeza de ninguno de vosotros perecerá.

Wherefore I exhort you to partake of food, for this has to do with your safety; for not a hair from the head of any one of you shall perish.

35 Y habiendo dicho esto, tomó el pan y dio gracias a Dios en presencia de todos, y partiéndolo, comenzó a comer.

And, having said these things and taken a loaf, he gave thanks to God before all, and having broken it began to eat.

36 E ntonces todos, teniendo ya mejor ánimo, comieron también.

And all taking courage, themselves also took food.

37 Y éramos todas las personas en la nave doscientas setenta y seis.

And we were in the ship, all the souls, two hundred and seventy-six.

38 Y ya satisfechos, aligeraron la nave, echando el trigo al mar. El naufragio

And having satisfied themselves with food, they lightened the ship, casting out the wheat into the sea.

39 C uando se hizo de día, no reconocían la tierra, pero divisaban una ensenada que tenía playa, en la cual acordaron varar la nave, si era posible.

And when it was day they did not recognise the land; but they perceived a certain bay having a strand, on which they were minded, if they should be able, to run the ship ashore;

40 C ortando, pues, las anclas, las dejaron en el mar, largando también las amarras de los timones; e izando al viento la vela de proa, enfilaron hacia la playa.

and, having cast off the anchors, they left in the sea, at the same time loosening the lashings of the rudders, and hoisting the foresail to the wind, they made for the strand.

41 P ero dando en un escollo donde se encuentran dos corrientes, hicieron encallar la nave; y la proa se clavó y quedó inmóvil, mientras que la popa se abría con la violencia de las olas.

And falling into a place where two seas met they ran the ship aground, and the prow having stuck itself fast remained unmoved, but the stern was broken by the force of the waves.

42 E ntonces los soldados acordaron matar a los presos, para que ninguno se fugase nadando.

And counsel of the soldiers was that they should kill the prisoners, lest any one should swim off and escape.

43 P ero el centurión, queriendo salvar a Pablo, les impidió este intento, y mandó que los que pudiesen nadar se echasen los primeros, y saliesen a tierra;

But the centurion, desirous of saving Paul, hindered them of their purpose, and commanded those who were able to swim, casting themselves first, to get out on land;

44 y los demás, parte en tablas, parte en varios objetos procedentes de la nave. Y así aconteció que todos llegamos a tierra sanos y salvos.

and the rest, some on boards, some on some of the things from the ship; and thus it came to pass that all got safe to land.
