1 These are the journeys of the sons of Israel who went forth out of the land of Egypt with their hosts under the hand of Moses and Aaron.

These are the travels of the people of Israel, when Moses and Aaron led them out from the land of Egypt by their armies.

2 A nd Moses wrote their goings out according to their journeys by the commandment of the LORD. These are their journeys according to their goings out.

Moses wrote down the starting places of their travels, as the Lord told him. These are their travels by their starting places.

3 A nd they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the second day of the passover the sons of Israel went out with a high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians.

They traveled from Rameses on the fifteenth day of the first month. On the day after the Passover the people of Israel started out strong in heart in front of all the Egyptians.

4 F or the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn, which the LORD had smitten among them, the LORD having also executed judgments upon their gods.

The Egyptians were burying all their first-born whom the Lord had killed among them. The Lord had punished their gods also.

5 A nd the sons of Israel removed from Rameses and pitched in Succoth.

Then the people of Israel traveled from Rameses and stayed in Succoth.

6 A nd they departed from Succoth and pitched in Etham, which is in the edge of the wilderness.

They traveled from Succoth and stayed in Etham, beside the desert.

7 A nd they removed from Etham and turned again unto Pihahiroth, which is before Baalzephon, and they pitched before Migdol.

They went from Etham and turned back to Pi-hahiroth, east of Baal-zephon, and stayed at Migdol.

8 A nd they departed from before Pihahiroth and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness and went three days’ journey in the wilderness of Etham and pitched in Marah.

Then they traveled from Hahiroth and passed through the sea into the desert. They traveled for three days in the desert of Etham, and stayed at Marah.

9 A nd they removed from Marah and came unto Elim, and in Elim were twelve fountains of water and seventy palm trees, and they pitched there.

They left Marah and came to Elim. There were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees in Elim, and they stayed there.

10 A nd they removed from Elim and encamped by the Red sea.

Then they traveled from Elim and stayed by the Red Sea.

11 A nd they removed from the Red sea and encamped in the wilderness of Sin.

They left the Red Sea and stayed in the Desert of Sin.

12 A nd they took their journey out of the wilderness of Sin and encamped in Dophkah.

They traveled from the Desert of Sin, and stayed at Dophkah.

13 A nd they departed from Dophkah and encamped in Alush.

Then they left Dophkah and stayed at Alush.

14 A nd they removed from Alush and encamped at Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink.

They traveled from Alush and stayed at Rephidim. It was there that the people had no water to drink.

15 A nd they departed from Rephidim and pitched in the wilderness of Sinai.

They went from Rephidim and stayed in the Desert of Sinai.

16 A nd they removed from the desert of Sinai and pitched at Kibrothhattaavah.

They traveled from the Desert of Sinai, and stayed at Kibroth-hattaavah.

17 A nd they departed from Kibrothhattaavah and encamped at Hazeroth.

They went from Kibroth-hattaavah and stayed at Hazeroth.

18 A nd they departed from Hazeroth and pitched in Rithmah.

They left Hazeroth and stayed at Rithmah.

19 A nd they departed from Rithmah and pitched at Rimmonparez.

Then they went from Rithmah and stayed at Rimmon-perez.

20 A nd they departed from Rimmonparez and pitched in Libnah.

They traveled from Rimmon-perez, and stayed at Libnah.

21 A nd they removed from Libnah and pitched at Rissah.

They left Libnah, and stayed at Rissah.

22 A nd they journeyed from Rissah and pitched in Kehelathah.

Then they went from Rissah and stayed at Kehelathah.

23 A nd they went from Kehelathah and pitched in Mount Shapher.

They went from Kehelathah and stayed at Mount Shepher.

24 A nd they removed from Mount Shapher and encamped in Haradah.

They traveled from Mount Shepher and stayed at Haradah.

25 A nd they removed from Haradah and pitched in Makheloth.

They left Haradah and stayed at Makheloth.

26 A nd they removed from Makheloth and encamped at Tahath.

Then they traveled from Makheloth, and stayed at Tahath.

27 A nd they departed from Tahath and pitched at Tarah.

They traveled from Tahath, and stayed at Terah.

28 A nd they removed from Tarah and pitched in Mithcah.

They went from Terah and stayed at Mithkah.

29 A nd they went from Mithcah and pitched in Hashmonah.

They left Mithkah and stayed at Hashmonah.

30 A nd they departed from Hashmonah and encamped at Moseroth.

Then they left Hashmonah and stayed at Moseroth.

31 A nd they departed from Moseroth and pitched in Benejaakan.

They went from Moseroth and stayed at Benejaakan.

32 A nd they removed from Benejaakan and encamped at Horhagidgad.

They traveled from Benejaakan, and stayed at Hor-haggidgad.

33 A nd they went from Horhagidgad and pitched in Jotbathah.

They went from Hor-haggidgad and stayed at Jotbathah.

34 A nd they removed from Jotbathah and encamped at Ebronah.

Then they left Jotbathah and stayed at Abronah.

35 A nd they departed from Ebronah and encamped at Eziongaber.

They went from Abronah and stayed at Ezion-geber.

36 A nd they removed from Eziongaber and pitched in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh.

They went from Ezion-geber and stayed in the Desert of Zin, that is, Kadesh.

37 A nd they removed from Kadesh and pitched in Mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom.

And they traveled from Kadesh, and stayed at Mount Hor, beside the land of Edom.

38 A nd Aaron, the priest, went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD and died there in the fortieth year, after the sons of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month.

Then Aaron the religious leader went up to Mount Hor, as the Lord told him. He died there, in the fortieth year after the people of Israel had left the land of Egypt, on the first day of the fifth month.

39 A nd Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old when he died in Mount Hor.

Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.

40 A nd King Arad, the Canaanite, who dwelt in the Negev in the land of Canaan, heard how the sons of Israel had come.

The Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the people of Israel.

41 A nd they departed from Mount Hor and pitched in Zalmonah.

Then the people traveled from Mount Hor, and stayed at Zalmonah.

42 A nd they departed from Zalmonah and pitched in Punon.

They left Zalmonah, and stayed at Punon.

43 A nd they departed from Punon and pitched in Oboth.

They went from Punon and stayed at Oboth.

44 A nd they departed from Oboth and pitched in Ijeabarim, in the border of Moab.

Then they left Oboth and stayed at Iye-abarim, beside Moab.

45 A nd they departed from Iim and pitched in Dibongad.

They traveled from Iyim, and stayed at Dibon-gad.

46 A nd they removed from Dibongad and encamped in Almondiblathaim.

They went from Dibon-gad and stayed at Almon-diblathaim.

47 A nd they removed from Almondiblathaim and pitched in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo.

They left Almon-diblathaim and stayed in the mountains of Abarim, near Nebo.

48 A nd they departed from the mountains of Abarim and pitched in the plains of Moab by Jordan of Jericho.

They traveled from the mountains of Abarim, and stayed in the plains of Moab by the Jordan near Jericho.

49 F inally they pitched by the Jordan, from Bethjesimoth even unto Abelshittim in the plains of Moab.

And they stayed by the Jordan, from Beth-jeshimoth as far as Abelshittim in the plains of Moab.

50 And the LORD spoke unto Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan of Jericho, saying,

Then the Lord said to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan near Jericho,

51 S peak unto the sons of Israel and say unto them, When ye have passed the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

“Say to the people of Israel, ‘You will cross over the Jordan into the land of Canaan.

52 t hen ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you and abolish all their paintings and abolish all their molten images and destroy all their high places,

Then drive out all the people living in the land in front of you. Destroy all their cut stones, and all their man-made gods, and all their high places.

53 a nd ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell therein; for I have given you the land to inherit it.

Take the land for your own and live in it. For I have given the land to you.

54 A nd ye shall inherit the land by lots by your families, and to those with the most ye shall give more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give less inheritance, each one’s inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falls; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit.

Your families will receive land by drawing names. The larger families should be given more land. The smaller families should be given less land. When a man’s name is drawn, that land will be his. You will receive land by the family groups of your fathers.

55 B ut if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall come to pass that those whom ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes and thorns in your sides and shall afflict you in the land in which ye dwell.

Drive out the people who live in the land in front of you. If you do not, then those who are allowed to stay will be like sharp pieces in your eyes and like thorns in your sides. They will trouble you in the land where you live.

56 M oreover it shall come to pass that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

And I will do to you as I thought to do to them.’”
