1 ¶ The sons of Judah: Pharez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
The sons of Judah were Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur and Shobal.
2 A nd Reaiah, the son of Shobal, begat Jahath, and Jahath begat Ahumai and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.
Shobal’s son Reaiah was the father of Jahath. And Jahath was the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zorathites.
3 A nd these were of the father of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash, and the name of their sister was Hazelelponi.
The sons of Etam were Jezreel, Ishma and Idbash. The name of their sister was Hazzelelponi.
4 A nd Penuel, the father of Gedor, and Ezer, the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah, the father of Bethlehem.
Penuel was the father of Gedor. Ezer was the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the first-born of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem.
5 A nd Ashur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
Tekoa’s father Ashhur had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
6 A nd Naarah gave birth to Ahuzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari unto him. These were the sons of Naarah.
Naarah gave birth to Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah.
7 A nd the sons of Helah: Zereth, Jezoar, and Ethnan.
The sons of Helah were Zereth, Izhar and Ethnan.
8 A nd Coz begat Anub and Zobebah and the family of Aharhel, the son of Harum.
Koz was the father of Anub, Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum.
9 A nd Jabez was more honoured than his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I gave birth to him with sorrow.
Jabez was more a man of honor than his brothers. His mother gave him the name Jabez, saying, “Because I gave birth to him in pain.”
10 A nd Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou would bless me indeed and enlarge my border and that thy hand might be with me and that thou would deliver me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “O, if only You would bring good to me and give me more land! If only Your hand might be with me, that You would keep me from being hurt!” And God gave him what he asked for.
11 ¶ And Chelub, the brother of Shuah, begat Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.
Shuhah’s brother Chelub was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.
12 A nd Eshton begat Bethrapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah, the father of Irnahash. These are the men of Rechah.
Eshton was the father of Beth-rapha and Paseah. Tehinnah was the father of Irnahash. These are the men of Recah.
13 T he sons of Kenaz: Othniel and Seraiah. The sons of Othniel: Hathath
The sons of Kenaz were Othniel and Seraiah. Othniel’s son was Hathath.
14 a nd Meonothai, who begat Ophrah. And Seraiah begat Joab, the father of the inhabitants of the valley of Charashim, for they were craftsmen.
Meonothai was the father of Ophrah. Seraiah was the father of Joab, who was the father of Ge-harashim. They were good at making things.
15 T he sons of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; and Kenaz was the son of Elah.
Jephunneh’s son Caleb was the father of Iru, Elah and Naam. Elah’s son was Kenaz.
16 T he sons of Jehaleleel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asareel.
The sons of Jehallel were Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria and Asarel.
17 A nd the sons of Ezra: Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon; and also begat Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa.
The sons of Ezrah were Jether, Mered, Epher and Jalon. These are the sons of Pharaoh’s daughter Bithia, whom Mered married. She gave birth to Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa.
18 A nd his wife Jehudijah gave birth unto him Jered, the father of Gedor, and Heber, the father of Socho, and Jekuthiel, the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh, which Mered took.
Mered’s Jewish wife gave birth to Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah.
19 A nd the sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, were the father of Keilah, the Garmite, and Eshtemoa, the Maachathite.
The sons of Hodiah’s wife, the sister of Naham, were the fathers of Keilah the Garmite and Eshtemoa the Maacathite.
20 A nd the sons of Shimon: Amnon, Rinnah, Benhanan, and Tilon. And the sons of Ishi: Zoheth and Benzoheth.
Shimon’s sons were Amnon, Rinnah, Benhanan and Tilon. The sons of Ishi were Zoheth and Ben-zoheth.
21 T he sons of Shelah, the son of Judah: Er, the father of Lecah, and Laadah, the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of those that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea,
The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were Er the father of Lecah, Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of those who worked with linen at Bethashbea.
22 a nd Jokim and the men of Chozeba, and Joash and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, and Jashubilehem. And these are ancient words.
Shelah’s other sons were Jokim, the men of Cozeba, Joash, Saraph who ruled in Moab, and Jaashubi-lehem. The writings of these times are old.
23 T hese were the potters and those that dwelt among plants and hedges, who dwelt there with the king for his work.
These were the people who made pots and lived in Netaim and Gederah. They lived there with the king for his work. The Family of Simeon
24 ¶ The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Saul;
The sons of Simeon were Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, and Saul.
25 a lso Shallum, his son, Mibsam, his son, and Mishma, his son.
Saul’s son was Shallum. His son was Mibsam. And his son was Mishma.
26 T he sons of Mishma: Hamuel, his son, Zacchur, his son, Shimei his son.
Mishma’s sons were Hammuel, Zaccur his son, and Shimei his son.
27 A nd Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brethren did not have many children, neither did all their family multiply, like the sons of Judah.

28 A nd they dwelt at Beersheba and Moladah and Hazarshual

32 A nd their villages were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan, five cities;

33 a nd all their villages that were round about the same cities, unto Baal. These were their habitations and their genealogy.
And they had all the small towns that were around these towns as far as Baal. These were the places where they lived. And they wrote down all the names of their families.
34 A nd Meshobab and Jamlech and Joshah, the son of Amaziah,
The heads of their families were Meshobab, Jamlech, Joshah the son of Amaziah,
35 a nd Joel and Jehu, the son of Josibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel,

36 a nd Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah,
And there were Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah,
37 a nd Ziza, the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah.

38 T hese mentioned by their names were princes in their families, and they were multiplied greatly in the house of their fathers.
These were the names of the heads of their families. And many were added to their fathers’ houses.
39 A nd they came unto the entrance of Gedor, even unto the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.
They went to the gate of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to look for fields for their flocks.
40 A nd they found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide and spacious and quiet and peaceable, for the sons of Ham had dwelt there of old.
There they found good fields rich with grass. The land was wide and quiet, and there they had peace. For Hamites had lived there before.
41 A nd these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah and smote their tents and the habitations that were found there and destroyed them utterly unto this day and dwelt in their place because there was pasture there for their flocks.
These whose names have been written down came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. They destroyed their tents and the Meunites who were found there. They destroyed all of them to this day, and lived in their place because there were fields for their flocks.
42 A nd likewise five hundred men of them, of the sons of Simeon, went to Mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah and Neariah and Rephaiah and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.
Then some of them, 500 sons of Simeon, went to Mount Seir. Their leaders were Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.
43 A nd they smote the rest of the Amalekites that were escaped and dwelt there unto this day.
They destroyed the rest of the Amalekites who had run away to be safe. And they have lived there to this day.
