1 ¶ Now these are the kings of the land which the sons of Israel smote and possessed their land on the other side of the Jordan toward the rising of the sun from the river Arnon unto Mount Hermon and all the plain on the east:

These are the kings of the land whom the sons of Israel won the war against east of the Jordan. They took their land from the Arnon valley to Mount Hermon, and all the Arabah to the east.

2 S ihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the midst of the river and from half of Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the sons of Ammon,

There was Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon. He ruled from Aroer on the side of the Arnon valley, and from the center of the valley and half of Gilead as far as the river Jabbok, beside the Ammonites.

3 a nd from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east and unto the sea of the plain, the salt sea on the east, by the way to Bethjeshimoth, and from the Negev, under Ashdothpisgah.

And he ruled the Arabah as far as the Sea of Chinneroth in the east, and as far as the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, east toward Beth-jeshimoth and south to the bottom of the hills of Pisgah.

4 A nd the borders of Og, king of Bashan, who was of the remnant of the Rephaim, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei,

And they took the land of Og, king of Bashan, one of the Rephaim who were still living. Og lived at Ashtaroth and Edrei.

5 a nd reigned in Mount Hermon and in Salcah and in all Bashan unto the borders of the Geshur and Maachath and half of Gilead, the border of Sihon, king of Heshbon.

He ruled over Mount Hermon and Salecah and all Bashan. He ruled as far as the land of the Geshurites, the Maacathites, and half of Gilead, as far as the land of Sihon, king of Heshbon.

6 T hese did Moses, the slave of the LORD, and the sons of Israel smite; and Moses, the slave of the LORD, gave that land in possession unto the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh.

The Lord’s servant Moses and the people of Israel won the war against them. Moses the Lord’s servant gave their land to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-family group of Manasseh.

7 ¶ And these are the kings of the land which Joshua and the sons of Israel smote on this side of the Jordan on the west from Baalgad in the plains of Lebanon even unto Mount Halak that goes up to Seir, which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions,

These are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the sons of Israel won the war against west of the Jordan, from Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon as far as Mount Halak which goes up to Seir. (Joshua gave their land as a gift to the family groups of Israel, by each one’s share.

8 i n the mountains and in the valleys and in the plains and in the springs and in the wilderness and towards the Negev: the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite,

He gave them the hill country, the valleys, the Arabah, the hill-sides, the desert, and the Negev. It was the land of the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite.)

9 t he king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, another;

There was the king of Jericho, the king of Ai which is beside Bethel,

10 t he king of Jerusalem, another; the king of Hebron, another;

the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron,

11 t he king of Jarmuth, another; the king of Lachish, another;

the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish,

12 t he king of Eglon, another; the king of Gezer, another;

the king of Eglon, and the king of Gezer.

13 t he king of Debir, another; the king of Geder, another;

There was the king of Debir, the king of Geder,

14 t he king of Hormah, another; the king of Arad, another;

the king of Horman, the king of Arad,

15 t he king of Libnah, another; the king of Adullam, another;

the king of Libnah, the king of Adullam,

16 t he king of Makkedah, another; the king of Bethel, another;

the king of Makkedah, and the king of Bethel.

17 t he king of Tappuah, another; the king of Hepher, another;

There was the king of Tappuah, the king of Hepher,

18 t he king of Aphek, another; the king of Lasharon, another;

the king of Aphek, the king of Lasharon,

19 t he king of Madon, another; the king of Hazor, another;

the king of Madon, the king of Hazor,

20 t he king of Shimronmeron (Samaria), another; the king of Achshaph, another;

the king of Shimron-meron, and the king of Achshaph.

21 t he king of Taanach, another; the king of Megiddo, another;

There was the king of Taanach, the king of Megiddo,

22 t he king of Kedesh, another; the king of Jokneam of Carmel, another;

the king of Kedesh, the king of Jokneam in Carmel,

23 t he king of Dor in the province of Dor, another; the king of the Gentiles in Gilgal, another;

the king of Dor in the high-lands of Dor, the king of Goiim in Gilgal,

24 t he king of Tirzah, another; thirty-one kings in all.

and the king of Tirzah. There were thirty-one kings in all.
