1 Concerning the divisions of the porters, of the Korhites: Meshelemiah, the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph.

The gate-keepers were divided up. Of the Korahites there was Meshelemiah the son of Kore, a son of Asaph.

2 T he sons of Meshelemiah: Zechariah, the firstborn, Jediael, the second, Zebadiah, the third, Jathniel, the fourth,

Meshelemiah’s sons were Zechariah the first-born, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth.

3 E lam, the fifth, Jehohanan, the sixth, Elioenai, the seventh.

Elam was his fifth son, Johanan the sixth, Eliehoenai the seventh.

4 T he sons of Obededom: Shemaiah, the firstborn, Jehozabad, the second, Joah, the third, and Sacar, the fourth, Nethaneel, the fifth,

Obed-edom’s sons were Shemaiah the first-born, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth.

5 A mmiel, the sixth, Issachar, the seventh, Peulthai, the eighth; for God had blessed him.

Ammiel was his sixth son, Issachar the seventh, and Peullethai the eighth. God had brought good to the father.

6 A lso unto Shemaiah, his son, were sons born, that ruled throughout the house of their fathers, for they were mighty men of valour.

To his son Shemaiah sons were born who ruled over their father’s house. They were strong, able men with strength of heart.

7 T he sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed, Elzabad, and their brethren, strong men; likewise, Elihu and Semachiah.

The sons of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed and Elzabad. Their brothers, Elihu and Semachiah, were strong and able men.

8 A ll these of the sons of Obededom; they and their sons and their brethren, valiant men strong for the ministry, were sixty-two, of Obededom.

All these were sons of Obed-edom. They and their sons and brothers were able men with strength for the work. There were sixty-two men from Obed-edom.

9 A nd Meshelemiah had sons and brethren, valiant men, eighteen.

Meshelemiah had sons and brothers, eighteen strong and able men.

10 O f Hosah, of the sons of Merari: Simri, the chief, (for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him the chief)

These are the sons of Hosah, one of Merari’s sons: Shimri was the first. (He was not the first-born, but his father made him first.)

11 H ilkiah the second, Tebaliah, the third, Zechariah, the fourth; all the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen.

Hilkiah was his second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth. Hosah had thirteen sons and brothers in all.

12 A mong these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another two by two, to minister in the house of the LORD.

These leaders of the families who were set apart as gate-keepers were given duties like their brothers to work in the Lord’s house.

13 A nd they cast lots, the small as well as the great, according to the houses of their fathers, for each gate.

The families drew names by their fathers’ houses, the small and the large alike, for every gate.

14 A nd the lot of the east fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah, his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out for the north.

Shelemiah’s name was drawn for the east gate. Then they drew the name of his son Zechariah for the north gate. Zechariah used much wisdom talking with people.

15 T o Obededom towards the Negev; and to his sons the house of consultation.

Obed-edom’s name was drawn for the south gate. And his sons were to watch the store-house.

16 T o Shuppim and Hosah to the west, with the gate Shallecheth, by the causeway of the going up, ward against ward.

Shuppim and Hosah’s names were drawn for the west gate beside the gate of Shallecheth, on the road that goes up a hill. Each one was given his duty to watch.

17 T o the east six Levites, to the north four by day, to the Negev four by day, and toward the house of the consultation two by two.

There were six Levites on the east. There were four each day on the north. There were four each day on the south. There were two at one time at the store-house.

18 A t the chamber of the vessels to the west, four in the way and two in the chamber.

There were four at the road. And there were two at the place between the west wall of the Lord’s house and the wall of the open space.

19 T hese are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Kore and among the sons of Merari.

These were the way the gate-keepers of the sons of Korah and Merari were divided.

20 And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasures of the house of God and over the treasures of the holy things.

Their brothers the Levites watched over the riches of the house of God and the riches of the holy gifts.

21 A s concerning the sons of Laadan; the sons of Gershon: of Laadan; chief fathers of Laadan were Gershon and Jehieli.

The sons of Ladan, who were Gershonites through the family group of Ladan were Jehielites.

22 T he sons of Jehieli: Zetham and Joel, his brother, who were over the treasures of the house of the LORD.

The sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel, watched over the riches of the house of the Lord.

23 O f the Amramites, and the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites,

Of the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites and the Uzzielites,

24 S hebuel, the son of Gershon, the son of Moses, was ruler of the treasures.

Shebuel the son of Gershom, son of Moses, was the captain over the riches.

25 A nd his brother Eliezer, Rehabiah, his son, Jeshaiah, his son, Joram, his son, Zichri, his son, and Shelomith, his son.

His brothers by Eliezer were Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zichri his son, and Shelomoth his son.

26 T his Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasures of the holy things, which David, the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the princes of the host had dedicated.

Shelomoth and his brothers watched over all the riches of the holy gifts. These gifts had been set apart by King David and the heads of the fathers’ houses, the captains of thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the army.

27 T hat which out of the spoils won in battles they had dedicated to maintain the house of the LORD.

They set apart things taken in battles to do the work needed on the house of the Lord.

28 L ikewise, all that Samuel, the seer, and Saul, the son of Kish, and Abner, the son of Ner, and Joab, the son of Zeruiah, and all that anyone had dedicated; it was under the hand of Shelomith and of his brethren.

Samuel the man of God had set apart gifts. So had Saul the son of Kish, Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah, and everyone who had set apart anything. All these holy gifts were in the care of Shelomoth and his brothers.

29 Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were governors and judges over Israel.

Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were given outside duties for Israel. They were leaders and men who decide who is guilty or not.

30 O f the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand seven hundred, presided over Israel on the other side of the Jordan westward in all the work of the LORD and in the service of the king.

Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brothers were leaders of Israel west of the Jordan. They were 1, 700 able men who did all the work of the Lord and the work of the king.

31 O f the Hebronites was Jerijah, the chief among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead.

Of the Hebronites, Jerijah was the leader of the Hebronites by their families and fathers’ houses. Very able men were found among them at Jazer in Gilead in the fortieth year of David’s rule.

32 A nd his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand seven hundred chief fathers, whom King David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God and affairs of the king.

Jerijah and his brothers were 2, 700 able men, heads of fathers’ houses. King David chose them to take care of all the duties of God and of the king, among the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-family group of the Manassites.
