1 G ive ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You Who lead Joseph like a flock; You Who sit enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth

Ki te tino kaiwhakatangi. Hohanimi Erutu. He himene na Ahapa. Tahuri mai tou taringa, e te Hepara o Iharaira, e arahi nei i a Hohepa ano he kahui hipi; whiti mai koe e noho mai na i waenganui i nga kerupima;

2 B efore Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh! Stir up Your might, and come to save us!

3 R estore us again, O God; and cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!

Whakahokia ake matou, e te Atua: kia marama mai tou mata, a ka ora matou.

4 O Lord God of hosts, how long will You be angry with Your people’s prayers?

E Ihowa, e te Atua o nga mano, kia pehea ake te roa o tou riri ki te inoi a tau iwi?

5 Y ou have fed them with the bread of tears, and You have given them tears to drink in large measure.

Kua whangaia mai e koe he roimata hei taro ma ratou, he nui hoki te mehua roimata kua homai nei e koe kia inumia e ratou.

6 Y ou make us a strife and scorn to our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves.

Kua meinga matou e koe hei totohetanga ma o matou hoa, a e kataina ana matou e o matou hoariri.

7 R estore us again, O God of hosts; and cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!

8 Y ou brought a vine out of Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it.

I maua mai e koe he waina i Ihipa: ka oti i a koe nga tauiwi te panga, na whakatokia iho e koe.

9 Y ou prepared room before it, and it took deep root and it filled the land.

I whakapaia e koe he tunga mona, na, ka hou ona pakiaka, a ka kapi te whenua.

10 T he mountains were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs of it were like the great cedars.

11 s ent out its boughs to the Sea and its branches to the River.

12 W hy have You broken down its hedges and walls so that all who pass by pluck from its fruit?

He aha i pakaruhia ai e koe ona taiepa ki raro, kia kowhakiwhakia ai ia e nga tangata katoa e tika ana i te ara?

13 T he boar out of the wood wastes it and the wild beast of the field feeds on it.

Mongamonga noa i te poaka toa o te ngahere, e kainga ana e te kirehe mohoao o te parae.

14 T urn again, we beseech You, O God of hosts! Look down from heaven and see, visit, and have regard for this vine!

Tahuri mai ano, e te Atua o nga mano, e inoi atu nei matou: titiro iho i te rangi, kia kite mai koe, ka toro mai i tenei waina.

15 t he stock which Your right hand planted, and the branch (the son) that You have reared and made strong for Yourself.

I te rakau i whakatokia e tou matau, i te manga hoki i meinga e koe kia pakari mau.

16 T hey have burned it with fire, it is cut down; may they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.

17 L et Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, upon the son of man whom You have made strong for Yourself.

Waiho tou ringa i runga i te tangata o tou matau, i te tama a te tangata i whakakahangia e koe mau.

18 T hen will we not depart from You; revive us (give us life) and we will call upon Your name.

Penei e kore matou e hoki atu i a koe: whakahauorangia matou, a ka karanga matou ki tou ingoa.

19 R estore us, O Lord God of hosts; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!
