1 E liseo aveva detto alla donna di cui aveva risuscitato il figlio: «Àlzati; va’, tu con la tua famiglia, e soggiorna all’estero, dove potrai; perché il Signore ha chiamato la carestia, ed essa verrà nel paese per sette anni».

Then Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise and go, you and your household, and stay wherever you can; for the Lord has called for a famine, and furthermore, it will come upon the land for seven years.”

2 L a donna si alzò e fece come le aveva detto l’uomo di Dio; se ne andò con la sua famiglia, e soggiornò per sette anni nel paese dei Filistei.

So the woman arose and did according to the saying of the man of God, and she went with her household and dwelt in the land of the Philistines seven years.

3 F initi i sette anni, quella donna tornò dal paese dei Filistei, e andò dal re a reclamare la sua casa e le sue terre.

It came to pass, at the end of seven years, that the woman returned from the land of the Philistines; and she went to make an appeal to the king for her house and for her land.

4 A llora il re discorreva con Gheazi, servo dell’uomo di Dio, e gli diceva: «Ti prego, raccontami tutte le cose grandi che Eliseo ha fatte».

Then the king talked with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, “Tell me, please, all the great things Elisha has done.”

5 E mentre appunto Gheazi raccontava al re come Eliseo aveva risuscitato il morto, ecco che la donna, di cui era stato risuscitato il figlio, venne dal re a reclamare la sua casa e le sue terre. E Gheazi disse: «O re, mio signore, questa è quella donna e questo è suo figlio, che Eliseo ha risuscitato».

Now it happened, as he was telling the king how he had restored the dead to life, that there was the woman whose son he had restored to life, appealing to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life.”

6 I l re interrogò la donna, che gli raccontò tutto; e il re le mise a disposizione un funzionario, al quale disse: «Falle restituire tutto quello che è suo e tutte le rendite delle terre, dal giorno in cui lasciò il paese fino a ora». Eliseo predice il regno di Azael sulla Siria

And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed a certain officer for her, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the land until now.” Death of Ben-Hadad

7 E liseo si recò a Damasco. Ben-Adad, re di Siria, era ammalato, e gli fu riferito che l’uomo di Dio era giunto in quel luogo.

Then Elisha went to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, “The man of God has come here.”

8 A llora il re disse ad Azael: «Prendi con te un regalo, va’ incontro all’uomo di Dio e consulta per mezzo di lui il Signore, per sapere se io guarirò da questa malattia».

And the king said to Hazael, “Take a present in your hand, and go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the Lord by him, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this disease?’”

9 A zael andò dunque incontro a Eliseo, portando con sé come regalo tutto quello che c’era di meglio a Damasco: il carico di quaranta cammelli. Appena giunse, si presentò a Eliseo e gli disse: «Tuo figlio Ben-Adad, re di Siria, mi ha mandato da te per dirti: “Guarirò da questa malattia?”»

So Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, of every good thing of Damascus, forty camel-loads; and he came and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this disease?’”

10 E liseo gli rispose: «Va’, e digli: “Guarirai di certo”. Ma il Signore mi ha rivelato che morirà sicuramente».

And Elisha said to him, “Go, say to him, ‘You shall certainly recover.’ However the Lord has shown me that he will really die.”

11 L ’uomo di Dio posò lo sguardo sopra Azael e lo fissò a lungo, poi si mise a piangere.

Then he set his countenance in a stare until he was ashamed; and the man of God wept.

12 A zael disse: «Perché piange il mio signore?» Eliseo rispose: «Perché so il male che farai ai figli d’Israele; tu darai alle fiamme le loro fortezze, ucciderai i loro giovani con la spada, schiaccerai i loro bambini e sventrerai le loro donne incinte».

And Hazael said, “Why is my lord weeping?” He answered, “Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel: Their strongholds you will set on fire, and their young men you will kill with the sword; and you will dash their children, and rip open their women with child.”

13 A zael disse: «Ma che cos’è mai il tuo servo, questo cane, per fare delle cose tanto grandi?» Eliseo rispose: «Il Signore mi ha rivelato che tu sarai re di Siria».

So Hazael said, “But what is your servant—a dog, that he should do this gross thing?” And Elisha answered, “The Lord has shown me that you will become king over Syria.”

14 A zael lasciò Eliseo e tornò dal suo signore, che gli chiese: «Che t’ha detto Eliseo?» Egli rispose: «Mi ha detto che guarirai certamente».

Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?” And he answered, “He told me you would surely recover.”

15 I l giorno dopo Azael prese una coperta, la immerse nell’acqua e la distese sulla faccia di Ben-Adad, che morì. E Azael regnò al suo posto. Ioram, re di Giuda

But it happened on the next day that he took a thick cloth and dipped it in water, and spread it over his face so that he died; and Hazael reigned in his place. Jehoram Reigns in Judah

16 N ell’anno quinto di Ioram, figlio di Acab, re d’Israele, Ieoram, figlio di Giosafat, re di Giuda, cominciò a regnare su Giuda.

Now in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat having been king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat began to reign as king of Judah.

17 A veva trentadue anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò otto anni a Gerusalemme.

He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

18 E gli seguì l’esempio dei re d’Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab; poiché aveva per moglie una figlia di Acab; e fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore.

And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for the daughter of Ahab was his wife; and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

19 T uttavia il Signore non volle distruggere Giuda, per amore di Davide suo servo, conformemente alla promessa fattagli di lasciare sempre una lampada a lui e ai suoi figli.

Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah, for the sake of His servant David, as He promised him to give a lamp to him and his sons forever.

20 A i suoi tempi, Edom si ribellò, sottraendosi al giogo di Giuda, e si diede un re.

In his days Edom revolted against Judah’s authority, and made a king over themselves.

21 A llora Ioram passò a Sair con tutti i suoi carri. Di notte si alzò e sconfisse gli Edomiti che avevano accerchiato lui e i capitani dei carri; ma la gente di Ioram dovette fuggire alle proprie tende.

So Joram went to Zair, and all his chariots with him. Then he rose by night and attacked the Edomites who had surrounded him and the captains of the chariots; and the troops fled to their tents.

22 C osì Edom si è ribellato e si è sottratto al giogo di Giuda fino a oggi. In quel medesimo tempo, anche Libna si ribellò.

Thus Edom has been in revolt against Judah’s authority to this day. And Libnah revolted at that time.

23 I l rimanente delle azioni di Ioram e tutto quello che fece si trova scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda.

Now the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

24 I oram si addormentò con i suoi padri, e con i suoi padri fu sepolto nella città di Davide. Acazia, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto. Acazia, re di Giuda

So Joram rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. Then Ahaziah his son reigned in his place. Ahaziah Reigns in Judah

25 L ’anno dodicesimo di Ioram, figlio di Acab, re d’Israele, Acazia, figlio di Ieoram, re di Giuda, cominciò a regnare.

In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab, king of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, began to reign.

26 A veva ventidue anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò un anno a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Atalia, nipote di Omri, re d’Israele.

Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah the granddaughter of Omri, king of Israel.

27 E gli seguì l’esempio della casa di Acab e fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, come la casa di Acab, perché era imparentato con la casa di Acab.

And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab, for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab.

28 E gli andò con Ioram, figlio di Acab, a combattere contro Azael, re di Siria, a Ramot di Galaad; e i Siri ferirono Ioram,

Now he went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.

29 e il re Ioram tornò a Izreel per farsi curare le ferite causategli dai Siri a Rama, quando combatteva contro Azael, re di Siria. Acazia, figlio di Ioram, re di Giuda, scese a Izreel a vedere Ioram, figlio di Acab, perché questi era ammalato.

Then King Joram went back to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which the Syrians had inflicted on him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
