1 H ERR, Gott, des die Rache ist, Gott, des die Rache ist, erscheine!

O Jehovah, thou God to whom vengeance belongeth, Thou God to whom vengeance belongeth, shine forth.

2 E rhebe dich, du Richter der Welt; vergilt den Hoffärtigen, was sie verdienen!

Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: Render to the proud their desert.

3 H ERR, wie lange sollen die Gottlosen, wie lange sollen die Gottlosen prahlen

Jehovah, how long shall the wicked, How long shall the wicked triumph?

4 u nd so trotzig reden, und alle Übeltäter sich so rühmen?

They prate, they speak arrogantly: All the workers of iniquity boast themselves.

5 H ERR, sie zerschlagen dein Volk und plagen dein Erbe;

They break in pieces thy people, O Jehovah, And afflict thy heritage.

6 W itwen und Fremdlinge erwürgen sie und töten die Waisen

They slay the widow and the sojourner, And murder the fatherless.

7 u nd sagen: "Der HERR sieht's nicht, und der Gott Jakobs achtet's nicht."

And they say, Jehovah will not see, Neither will the God of Jacob consider.

8 M erket doch, ihr Narren unter dem Volk! Und ihr Toren, wann wollt ihr klug werden?

Consider, ye brutish among the people; And ye fools, when will ye be wise?

9 D er das Ohr gepflanzt hat, sollte der nicht hören? Der das Auge gemacht hat, sollte der nicht sehen?

He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see?

10 D er die Heiden züchtigt, sollte der nicht strafen, -der die Menschen lehrt, was sie wissen?

He that chastiseth the nations, shall not he correct, Even he that teacheth man knowledge?

11 A ber der HERR weiß die Gedanken der Menschen, daß sie eitel sind.

Jehovah knoweth the thoughts of man, That they are vanity.

12 W ohl dem, den du, HERR, züchtigst und lehrst ihn durch dein Gesetz,

Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Jehovah, And teachest out of thy law;

13 d aß er Geduld habe, wenn's übel geht, bis dem Gottlosen die Grube bereitet werde!

That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, Until the pit be digged for the wicked.

14 D enn der HERR wird sein Volk nicht verstoßen noch sein Erbe verlassen.

For Jehovah will not cast off his people, Neither will he forsake his inheritance.

15 D enn Recht muß doch Recht bleiben, und dem werden alle frommen Herzen zufallen.

For judgment shall return unto righteousness; And all the upright in heart shall follow it.

16 W er steht bei mir wider die Boshaften? Wer tritt zu mir wider die Übeltäter?

Who will rise up for me against the evil-doers? Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

17 W o der HERR nicht hülfe, so läge meine Seele schier in der Stille.

Unless Jehovah had been my help, My soul had soon dwelt in silence.

18 I ch sprach: Mein Fuß hat gestrauchelt; aber deine Gnade, HERR, hielt mich.

When I said, My foot slippeth; Thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, held me up.

19 I ch hatte viel Bekümmernisse in meinem Herzen; aber deine Tröstungen ergötzten meine Seele.

In the multitude of my thoughts within me Thy comforts delight my soul.

20 D u wirst ja nimmer eins mit dem schädlichen Stuhl, der das Gesetz übel deutet.

Shall the throne of wickedness have fellowship with thee, Which frameth mischief by statute?

21 S ie rüsten sich gegen die Seele des Gerechten und verdammen unschuldig Blut.

They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, And condemn the innocent blood.

22 A ber der HERR ist mein Schutz; mein Gott ist der Hort meiner Zuversicht.

But Jehovah hath been my high tower, And my God the rock of my refuge.

23 U nd er wird ihnen ihr Unrecht vergelten und wird sie um ihre Bosheit vertilgen; der HERR, unser Gott, wird sie vertilgen.

And he hath brought upon them their own iniquity, And will cut them off in their own wickedness; Jehovah our God will cut them off.
