1 ¶ It is in order then, brethren, that we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that in the manner ye were taught of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would continue to grow.

Por lo demás, hermanos, os rogamos y exhortamos en el Señor Jesús, que de la manera que aprendisteis de nosotros cómo os conviene conduciros y agradar a Dios, así abundéis más y más.

2 F or ye already know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

Porque ya sabéis qué instrucciones os dimos por medio del Señor Jesús;

3 F or the will of God is your sanctification, that ye should separate yourselves from fornication,

porque ésta es la voluntad de Dios: vuestra santificación; que os apartéis de fornicación;

4 t hat every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honesty,

que cada uno de vosotros sepa cómo poseer su propio vaso en santidad y honor;

5 n ot with affection of lust, as the Gentiles who do not know God,

no en pasión de concupiscencia, como los gentiles que no conocen a Dios;

6 t hat no one oppress and defraud his brother in any matter because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

que ninguno agravie ni defraude en este asunto a su hermano; porque el Señor es vengador de todo esto, como ya os hemos dicho antes y testificado solemnemente.

7 F or God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto sanctification.

Pues no nos ha llamado Dios a inmundicia, sino a santificación.

8 H e therefore that despises us, does not despise man, but God, who has also given unto us his Holy Spirit.

Así que, el que desecha esto, no desecha a hombre, sino a Dios, que también nos dio su Espíritu Santo.

9 ¶ But as touching love among the brethren, ye need not that I write unto you, for ye yourselves have learned of God that ye are to show charity to one another.

Pero acerca del amor fraternal no tenéis necesidad de que os escriba, porque vosotros mismos habéis aprendido de Dios que os améis unos a otros;

10 A nd indeed ye do it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia, but we beseech you, brethren, that ye continue to grow

y también lo hacéis así con todos los hermanos que están por toda Macedonia. Pero os rogamos, hermanos, que abundéis en ello más y más;

11 a nd that ye procure to be quiet and to do your business and to work with your hands, as we commanded you,

y que os esforcéis afanosamente por tener tranquilidad, y ocuparos en vuestros propios asuntos, y trabajar con vuestras manos de la manera que os hemos mandado,

12 t hat ye may walk honestly toward those that are without, and that ye may desire nothing from any one.

a fin de que os conduzcáis honradamente para con los de afuera, y no tengáis necesidad de nada. La venida del Señor

13 ¶ But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as the others who have no hope.

Y no queremos, hermanos, que ignoréis acerca de los que duermen, para que no os entristezcáis como los demás que no tienen esperanza.

14 F or if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so those who sleep in Jesus will God also bring with him.

Porque si creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó, así también traerá Dios con Jesús a los que durmieron en él.

15 F or this, we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede those who are asleep.

Por lo cual os decimos esto por palabra del Señor: que nosotros los que vivamos, los que hayamos quedado hasta la venida del Señor, no precederemos a los que durmieron.

16 F or the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first;

Porque el Señor mismo con voz de mando, con voz de arcángel, y con trompeta de Dios, descenderá del cielo; y los muertos en Cristo resucitarán primero.

17 t hen we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Luego nosotros los que vivamos, los que hayamos quedado, seremos arrebatados juntamente con ellos en las nubes para salir al encuentro del Señor en el aire, y así estaremos siempre con el Señor.

18 T herefore comfort one another with these words.

Por tanto, alentaos los unos a los otros con estas palabras.
