1 ¶ And he went out from there and came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.

Salió de allí, y vino a su pueblo, y le acompañaban sus discípulos.

2 A nd when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue; and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From where has this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him and such mighty works that are wrought by his hands?

Cuando llegó el sábado, comenzó a enseñar en la sinagoga; y los muchos que le escuchaban estaban asombrados y decían: ¿De dónde le viene esto? ¿Y qué sabiduría es ésta que se le ha dado? ¿Y tales milagros que se realizan mediante sus manos?

3 I s not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joses and of Juda and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

¿No es éste el carpintero, el hijo de María y hermano de Jacobo, José, Judas y Simón? ¿Y no están sus hermanas aquí con nosotros? Y se escandalizaban a causa de él.

4 B ut Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not dishonoured except in his own country and among his own kin and in his own house.

Jesús les decía: No hay profeta sin honra, excepto en su propio pueblo, entre sus parientes, y en su casa.

5 A nd he could do no mighty work there except that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk and healed them.

Y no podía hacer allí ningún milagro, excepto que sanó a unos pocos enfermos poniendo las manos sobre ellos.

6 A nd he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went through the villages round about, teaching.

Y se asombró de la incredulidad de ellos. Y recorría las aldeas enseñando. Misión de los doce discípulos

7 ¶ And he called unto him the twelve and began to send them forth by two and two and gave them power over the unclean spirits

Llamando a los doce, comenzó a enviarlos de dos en dos, y les daba autoridad sobre los espíritus inmundos;

8 a nd commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey except a staff only: no provision bag, no bread, no money in their purse;

y les encargaba que no tomasen nada para el camino, excepto un solo bastón; ni pan, ni alforja, ni dinero en el cinto;

9 b ut be shod with sandals and not put on two coats.

sino calzados con sandalias; y que no se pusiesen dos túnicas.

10 A nd he said unto them, In whatever place ye enter into a house, there abide until ye depart from that place.

Y les decía: Dondequiera que entréis en una casa, permaneced allí hasta que salgáis de aquel lugar.

11 A nd whosoever shall not receive you nor hear you, when ye depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet in testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment than for that city.

Y cualquier lugar que no os reciba o no os escuchen, sacudid el polvo de la planta de vuestros pies, en testimonio contra ellos. De cierto os digo que más tolerable será en el día del juicio el castigo para los de Sodoma y Gomorra, que para aquella ciudad.

12 A nd they went out and preached that men should repent.

Y yéndose de allí, predicaron que se arrepintiesen.

13 A nd they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many that were sick, and they were healed.

También expulsaban muchos demonios, y ungían con aceite a muchos enfermos, y los sanaban. Muerte de Juan el Bautista

14 ¶ And king Herod heard of him (for his name was spread abroad), and he said, John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and therefore virtues operate in him.

El rey Herodes se enteró de esto, pues su nombre se había hecho célebre, y decía: Juan el Bautista ha sido resucitado de entre los muertos, y por eso actúan en él estos poderes milagrosos.

15 O thers said, It is Elijah. And others said, It is the prophet or one of the prophets.

Otros decían: Es Elías. Y otros decían: Un profeta es, o como uno de los profetas.

16 B ut when Herod heard of it, he said, This is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

Al enterarse Herodes, decía: Juan, al que yo decapité, ése ha sido resucitado.

17 F or Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.

Pues el mismo Herodes había enviado a prender a Juan y le había encadenado en la prisión por causa de Herodías, la mujer de Felipe su hermano, pues se había casado con ella.

18 F or John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.

Pues le decía Juan a Herodes: No te es lícito tener la mujer de tu hermano.

19 T herefore Herodias had a quarrel against him and would have killed him, but she could not;

Y Herodías le tenía un profundo rencor y deseaba matarle, pero no podía,

20 f or Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and respected him; and when he heard him, he did many things and heard him gladly.

porque Herodes tenía temor de Juan, sabiendo que era un hombre justo y santo, y le guardaba seguro; y escuchándole, se quedaba muy perplejo, pero le escuchaba con gusto.

21 A nd when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his princes and tribunes and to the principal people of Galilee;

Pero llegó un día oportuno, cuando Herodes, en su cumpleaños, ofreció un banquete a sus magnates, a los altos oficiales del ejército, y a los principales de Galilea.

22 a nd when the daughter of Herodias came in and danced and pleased Herod and those that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it unto thee.

Y cuando entró la hija de la misma Herodías y bailó, agradó a Herodes y a los que se sentaban con él a la mesa. Entonces, el rey le dijo a la muchacha: Pídeme lo que quieras, y te lo daré.

23 A nd he swore unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it unto thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

Y le juró: Cualquier cosa que pidas, te la daré, hasta la mitad de mi reino.

24 A nd she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

Ella salió y le dijo a su madre: ¿Qué pediré? Y ella contestó: La cabeza de Juan el Bautista.

25 A nd she came in with haste unto the king and asked, saying, I will that thou give me immediately in a platter the head of John the Baptist.

Inmediatamente entró ella a toda prisa ante el rey con su petición, diciendo: Quiero que me des ahora mismo en una bandeja la cabeza de Juan el Bautista.

26 A nd the king was exceeding sorry, yet for his oath’s sake and for the sakes of those who sat with him, he would not reject her.

El rey se puso muy triste, pero a causa de los juramentos, y en atención a los comensales, no quiso rehusárselo.

27 A nd straightway the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought, and he went and beheaded him in the prison

Al instante envió el rey a un verdugo y le ordenó traer la cabeza de Juan. Él fue y le decapitó en la cárcel,

28 a nd brought his head in a platter and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother.

y trajo la cabeza en una bandeja, y se la dio a la muchacha; y la muchacha se la dio a su madre.

29 A nd when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse and laid it in a tomb.

Cuando se enteraron sus discípulos, vinieron a recoger su cadáver, y lo pusieron en una tumba. Alimentación de los cinco mil

30 ¶ And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus and told him everything they had done and what they had taught.

Los apóstoles se reunieron con Jesús, y le contaron todo cuanto habían hecho y enseñado.

31 A nd he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while; for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

Entonces les dice: Venid vosotros mismos aparte a un lugar solitario y descansad un poco. Pues eran muchos los que iban y venían, y ellos no tenían tiempo conveniente ni aun para comer.

32 A nd they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

Y se marcharon en la barca, aparte, a un lugar solitario.

33 A nd many saw them departing and knew him and ran there afoot out of the cities and arrived before them and came together unto him.

Pero los vieron marchar, y muchos les reconocieron y, desde todas las ciudades, corrieron allá en tropel a pie, y llegaron antes que ellos.

34 A nd Jesus, when he came out, saw a great multitude and had mercy on them because they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.

Salió él, y vio una gran multitud, y tuvo compasión de ellos, porque eran como ovejas que no tienen pastor; y comenzó a enseñarles muchas cosas.

35 A nd when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed;

Y como se había hecho una hora muy avanzada, se le acercaron sus discípulos y comenzaron a decirle: El lugar es solitario, y la hora es ya muy avanzada;

36 s end them away that they may go into the country round about and into the villages and buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat.

déjalos marchar, para que vayan a las alquerías y a las aldeas circunvecinas, y se compren algo de comer.

37 H e answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said unto him, Shall we go and buy bread for two hundred denarius and give them to eat?

Él respondió y les dijo: Dadles vosotros de comer. Le dicen ellos: ¿Iremos a comprar pan por doscientos denarios, y les daremos de comer?

38 H e said unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they said, Five, and two fishes.

Entonces les dice él: ¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Id a ver. Después de averiguarlo, le dicen: Cinco, y dos peces.

39 A nd he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

Él les dio instrucciones para que todos se acomodaran por grupos sobre la verde hierba.

40 A nd they sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.

Y se acomodaron por grupos de cien y de cincuenta.

41 A nd when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples to set before them, and the two fishes he divided among them all.

Tomando entonces los cinco panes y los dos peces, levantó los ojos al cielo y bendijo, partió los panes y los iba dando a los discípulos para que se los fueran sirviendo. También repartió entre todos los dos peces.

42 A nd they all ate and were filled.

Y comieron todos y quedaron satisfechos.

43 A nd they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments and of the fishes.

Y recogieron doce canastas llenas de trozos de pan y de pescado.

44 A nd those that ate were five thousand men.

Los que comieron de los panes eran cinco mil hombres. Jesucristo anda sobre el mar

45 ¶ And straightway he told his disciples to get quickly into the ship and to go to the other side before him unto Bethsaida while he dispatched the people.

Inmediatamente obligó a sus discípulos a subir a la barca y a que fuesen por delante a la otra orilla, en dirección a Betsaida, mientras él despedía a la multitud.

46 A nd when he had dispatched them, he departed into the mountain to pray.

Y después de despedirse de ellos, se fue al monte a orar.

47 A nd when night was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.

Al caer la tarde, la barca se hallaba en medio del mar, y él, solo, en tierra.

48 A nd he saw them toiling in rowing, for the wind was contrary unto them; and about the fourth watch of the night he came unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

Viendo que ellos se fatigaban remando, puesto que el viento les era contrario, hacia la cuarta vigilia de la noche viene hacia ellos caminando sobre el mar, y quería pasarles de largo.

49 B ut when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a ghost and cried out,

Pero ellos, al verle andando sobre el mar, pensaron que era un fantasma, y gritaron,

50 F or they all saw him and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them and said unto them, Be of good cheer; I AM; be not afraid.

pues todos le vieron y se asustaron. Pero él inmediatamente se puso a hablar con ellos, diciéndoles: Tened ánimo, soy yo, no temáis.

51 A nd he went up unto them into the ship, and the wind ceased; and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure and wondered.

Y subió a la barca, adonde ellos, y amainó el viento; y ellos quedaron sumamente asombrados,

52 F or they had not yet derived understanding in the loaves, for their hearts were blind.

pues no habían comprendido lo de los panes, sino que su mente estaba embotada. Jesucristo sana a los enfermos en Genesaret

53 A nd when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret and drew to the shore.

Terminada la travesía, llegaron a tierra en Genesaret, y atracaron.

54 A nd when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him

Y cuando salieron de la barca, en seguida le reconoció la gente,

55 a nd ran through that whole region round about and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.

recorrieron apresuradamente toda aquella comarca, y comenzaron a traer a los enfermos en sus camillas, dondequiera que oían que estaba él.

56 A nd wherever he entered, into villages or cities or fields, they laid the sick in the streets and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment, and as many as touched him were saved.

Y dondequiera que entraba, en aldeas, ciudades o alquerías, ponían a los enfermos en las plazas, y le rogaban que les permitiera tocar siquiera el borde de su manto; y cuantos lo tocaban quedaban sanos.
