1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart. I will tell of all the great things You have done.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.
I will be glad and full of joy because of You. I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
3 W hen mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.
When those who hate me turn away, they fall and are lost from You.
4 F or thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right.
For You have stood by my right actions. You sit on Your throne, and are right in how You judge.
5 T hou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.
You have spoken sharp words to the nations and have destroyed the sinful. You have thrown out their name forever and ever.
6 O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.
Those who fight against You are finished forever. You have destroyed their cities. They will be remembered no more.
7 B ut the Lord shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.
But the Lord lives forever. He has set up His throne to say who is guilty or not.
8 A nd he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.
He will punish the world by what is right. He will be fair as He rules the people.
9 T he Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
The Lord also keeps safe those who suffer. He is a safe place in times of trouble.
10 A nd they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
Those who know Your name will put their trust in You. For You, O Lord, have never left alone those who look for You.
11 S ing praises to the Lord, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.
Sing praises to the Lord, Who lives in Zion! Tell all the nations what He has done!
12 W hen he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble.
For He Who punishes for the blood of another remembers them. He does not forget the cry of those who suffer.
13 H ave mercy upon me, O Lord; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death:
Have pity on me, O Lord! See how I suffer from those who hate me, You Who have lifted me up from the gates of death,
14 T hat I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.
that I may tell of all Your praises in the gates of the people of Zion. There I will be full of joy because You save.
15 T he heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.
The nations have fallen into the hole they have dug. Their own feet have been caught in the net they have hidden.
16 T he Lord is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.
The Lord has made Himself known. He is fair in His Law. The sinful trap themselves by the work of their own hands.
17 T he wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
The sinful, all the nations that forget God, will be turned back into the grave.
18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.
But those in need will not always be forgotten. The hope of the poor will not be lost forever.
19 A rise, O Lord; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight.
Rise up, O Lord! Do not let man win the fight against You. Let the nations come to You and be judged.
20 P ut them in fear, O Lord: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.
Make them afraid, O Lord. Let the nations know they are only men.
