Isaiah 6 ~ Isaiah 6

1 I n the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

In the year of King Uzziah’s death, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and honored. His long clothing spread out and filled the house of God.

2 A bove it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings. With two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

3 A nd one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

One called out to another and said, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of All. The whole earth is full of His shining-greatness.”

4 A nd the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

And the base of the doorways shook at the voice of him who called out, while the house of God was filled with smoke.

5 T hen said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

Then I said, “It is bad for me, for I am destroyed! Because I am a man whose lips are unclean. And I live among a people whose lips are unclean. For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of All.”

6 T hen flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, with a burning coal which he had taken from the altar using a special tool.

7 A nd he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

He touched my mouth with it, and said, “See, this has touched your lips, and your guilt is taken away. Your sin is forgiven.”

8 A lso I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom should I send? Who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

9 A nd he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

He said, “Go, and tell these people, ‘You hear and hear but do not understand. You look and look but do not see.’

10 M ake the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

Make the hearts of these people hard. May their ears hear little and their eyes see little. Or they will see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their hearts, and turn again and be healed.”

11 T hen said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,

Then I said, “Lord, how long?” And He answered, “Until cities are destroyed and empty, and until houses are without people and the land is laid waste.

12 A nd the Lord have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.

Until the Lord has taken men far away, and there are many places with no people in the land.

13 B ut yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

Yet one tenth part of the people will stay in it. But it will be burned again, like an oak tree whose roots are still there when it is cut down. The holy seed is all that will be left (of Israel).”
