1 I t is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and sing praises to Your name, O Most High.

2 T o shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,

It is good to tell of Your loving-kindness in the morning, and of how faithful You are at night,

3 U pon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

with harps, and with music of praise.

4 F or thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

For You have made me glad by what You have done, O Lord. I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.

5 O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

How great are Your works, O Lord! How deep are Your thoughts!

6 A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.

A man who cannot reason does not have much learning. A fool does not understand this.

7 W hen the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:

Even if the sinful grow up like grass and all goes well with wrong-doers, they will be destroyed forever.

8 B ut thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.

But You, O Lord, rule from Your high place forever.

9 F or, lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

For, look, those who hate You will be lost from You forever, O Lord. All those who do wrong will be destroyed.

10 B ut my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

But You have lifted up my horn like that of a wild bull. New oil has been poured upon me.

11 M ine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.

My eyes have seen those who wait to hurt me. My ears hear the bad men who rise up against me.

12 T he righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

The man who is right and good will grow like the palm tree. He will grow like a tall tree in Lebanon.

13 T hose that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.

Planted in the house of the Lord, they will grow well in the home of our God.

14 T hey shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

They will still give fruit when they are old. They will be full of life and strength.

15 T o shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

And they will show that the Lord is faithful. He is my rock. There is nothing in Him that is not right and good.
