1 A nd it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations;

2 T hat these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.
that they made war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).
3 A ll these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.
All these joined together in the valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).
4 T welve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
They had been ruled by Chedorlaomer for twelve years. But in the thirteenth year they went against him.
5 A nd in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emins in Shaveh Kiriathaim,
Then in the fourteenth year, Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and won a war against the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shavehkiriathaim,
6 A nd the Horites in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, which is by the wilderness.
and the Horites in their Mount Seir as far as El-paran near the desert.
7 A nd they returned, and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezontamar.
Then they turned around and came to Enmishpat (that is, Kadesh). There they won a war against all the country of the Amalekites and the Amorites who lived in Hazazon-tamar.
8 A nd there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim;
Then the kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim and Bela (that is, Zoar) went out and joined in war against them in the valley of Siddim.
9 W ith Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five.
They fought against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar, four kings against five.
10 A nd the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.
Now the Siddim valley was full of deep holes with tar. The kings of Sodom and Gomorrah turned and ran, and some fell there. But the others ran away into the hill country.
11 A nd they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.
Then those who won the war took all that belonged to Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and left.
12 A nd they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
They also took Lot, the son of Abram’s brother, who lived in Sodom, and all that belonged to him, and left.
13 A nd there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.
Then one who had run for his life came and told Abram the Hebrew. Abram was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and Aner, who were friends of Abram.
14 A nd when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
When Abram heard that one of his family had been taken away, he led 318 men who had been born in his house and whom he had taught to fight. They went after them as far as Dan.
15 A nd he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
Abram divided his army against them by night, he and his servants. They won the war against them, and followed them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.
16 A nd he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
Then Abram returned with all the things they had taken. He also returned with his brother’s son Lot and all that belonged to him, and the women and the people.
17 A nd the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale.
After Abram returned from destroying Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s valley).
18 A nd Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was a religious leader of God Most High.
19 A nd he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
And Melchizedek honored Abram and said, “May good come to Abram from God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth.
20 A nd blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
Honor and thanks be to God Most High, Who has given into your hand those who fought against you.” Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all he had taken.
21 A nd the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.
And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, but take the riches and food for yourself.”
22 A nd Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have promised the Lord God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth,
23 T hat I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
that I will not take a piece of string or piece of leather or anything that is yours. Or else you might say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’
24 S ave only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
I will take nothing but what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me. Let Aner, Eshcol and Mamre take their share.”
