1 B e merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.
Show me Your loving-kindness, O God, for man has walked on me. All day long the one who tries to keep me down fights with me.
2 M ine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
All day long those who hate me have walked on me. For there are many who fight against me with pride.
3 W hat time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
When I am afraid, I will trust in You.
4 I n God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
I praise the Word of God. I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can only a man do to me?
5 E very day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.
All day long they change my words to say what I did not say. They are always thinking of ways to hurt me.
6 T hey gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
They go after me as in a fight. They hide themselves. They watch my steps, as they have waited to take my life.
7 S hall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
Because they are bad, do not let them get away. Bring down the people in Your anger, O God.
8 T hou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
You have seen how many places I have gone. Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?
9 W hen I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
Then those who hate me will turn back when I call. I know that God is for me.
10 I n God will I praise his word: in the Lord will I praise his word.
I praise the Word of God. I praise the Word of the Lord.
11 I n God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
In God I have put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
12 T hy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.
I am under an agreement with You, O God. I will give You gifts of thanks.
13 F or thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
For You have set my soul free from death. You have kept my feet from falling, so I may walk with God in the light of life.
