1 B e gracious unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up: all the day long fighting he oppresseth me.

Show me Your loving-kindness, O God, for man has walked on me. All day long the one who tries to keep me down fights with me.

2 M ine enemies would swallow up all the day long; for they are many that fight against me haughtily.

All day long those who hate me have walked on me. For there are many who fight against me with pride.

3 I n the day that I am afraid, I will confide in thee.

When I am afraid, I will trust in You.

4 I n God will I praise his word, in God I put my confidence: I will not fear; what can flesh do unto me?

I praise the Word of God. I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can only a man do to me?

5 A ll the day long they wrest my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

All day long they change my words to say what I did not say. They are always thinking of ways to hurt me.

6 T hey gather themselves together, they hide themselves; they mark my steps, because they wait for my soul.

They go after me as in a fight. They hide themselves. They watch my steps, as they have waited to take my life.

7 S hall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God.

Because they are bad, do not let them get away. Bring down the people in Your anger, O God.

8 T hou countest my wanderings; put my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

You have seen how many places I have gone. Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?

9 T hen shall mine enemies return backward in the day when I call: this I know, for God is for me.

Then those who hate me will turn back when I call. I know that God is for me.

10 I n God will I praise word; in Jehovah will I praise word.

I praise the Word of God. I praise the Word of the Lord.

11 I n God have I put my confidence: I will not fear; what can man do unto me?

In God I have put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

12 T hy vows are upon me, O God: I will render thanks unto thee.

I am under an agreement with You, O God. I will give You gifts of thanks.

13 F or thou hast delivered my soul from death; not my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

For You have set my soul free from death. You have kept my feet from falling, so I may walk with God in the light of life.
