1 A nd Job answered and said,
Then Job answered,
2 H ow hast thou helped the powerless; how saved the arm that is without strength!
“What a help you are to the weak! How you have saved the arm that has no strength!
3 H ow hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom, and abundantly declared the thing as it is!
How you have given wise words to him who has no wisdom! How much true learning you have given!
4 F or whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?
To whom have your words been said? And from whose spirit have you spoken?
5 T he shades tremble beneath the waters and the inhabitants thereof;
“The spirits of the dead shake under the waters and those living in them.
6 S heol is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
The place of the dead has no covering before God and the place that destroys has no covering.
7 H e stretcheth out the north over empty space, he hangeth the earth upon nothing;
He spreads out the north over empty waste, and hangs the earth on nothing.
8 H e bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not rent under them.
He holds the waters in His clouds, and the cloud does not break under them.
9 H e covereth the face of his throne, he spreadeth his cloud upon it.
He covers the face of the moon and spreads His cloud over it.
10 H e hath traced a fixed circle over the waters, unto the confines of light and darkness.
He has marked the sides around the waters where light and darkness are divided.
11 T he pillars of the heavens tremble and are astonished at his rebuke.
The pillars of heaven shake with fear. They are surprised and afraid of His sharp words.
12 H e stirreth up the sea by his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through Rahab.
He made the sea quiet by His power. And by His understanding He destroyed Rahab.
13 B y his Spirit the heavens are adorned; his hand hath formed the fleeing serpent.
By His breath the heavens are made beautiful. His hand cut through the snake as it tried to get away.
14 L o, these are the borders of his ways; but what a whisper of a word do we hear of him! And the thunder of his power, who can understand?
See, these are only a few of the things He does. And how quiet are the words spoken about Him! But who can understand His powerful thunder?”
