1 T hou shalt love then Jehovah thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his ordinances, and his commandments continually.
“Love the Lord your God. Always do what He tells you and keep all His Laws.
2 A nd know ye this day …; for not with your children who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of Jehovah your God, his greatness, his powerful hand, and his stretched-out arm,
I am not speaking to your children. They have not seen how the Lord worked and how great He is.
3 a nd his signs and his acts which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land;
They have not seen the special things you have seen, what He did in Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt and to all his land.
4 a nd what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and unto their chariots, over which he made the water of the Red sea flow as they pursued after you, and Jehovah destroyed them unto this day;
They have not seen what He did to Egypt’s army, the horses and war-wagons. He made the water of the Red Sea flow over them while they were coming after you. He destroyed every one of them.
5 — and what he did unto you in the wilderness, until ye came to this place;
They have not seen what He did to you in the desert until you came to this place.
6 a nd what he did unto Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben,—how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, with their households, and their tents, and all the living substance that belonged to them, in the midst of all Israel.
They do not know what He did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, son of Reuben. The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, those of their house, their tents, and every living thing that followed them among Israel.
7 F or your eyes have seen all the great work of Jehovah which he hath done.
But your own eyes have seen all the great work the Lord has done.
8 K eep then all the commandment which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and enter in and possess the land, whither ye pass over to possess it;
“So keep every Law which I am telling you today. And you will be strong and go in and take the land which is to be yours.
9 a nd that ye may prolong your days in the land which Jehovah swore unto your fathers to give unto them and unto their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.
You will live long in the land the Lord promised to your fathers and their children, a land flowing with milk and honey.
10 F or the land, whither thou enterest in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs;
For the land you are going in to take is not like the land you came from in Egypt. There you planted your seed and watered it using your feet, like a vegetable garden.
11 b ut the land, whereunto ye are passing over to possess it, is a land of mountains and valleys, which drinketh water of the rain of heaven,
But the land you are about to go into and take for your own is a land of hills and valleys. It drinks water from the rain of heaven.
12 a land which Jehovah thy God careth for; the eyes of Jehovah thy God are constantly upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.
The Lord your God cares for this land. His eyes watch over it from the beginning to the end of the year.
13 A nd it shall come to pass, if ye hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love Jehovah your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
“Listen to and obey all the Laws I am telling you today. Love the Lord your God. Work for Him with all your heart and soul. If you do,
14 t hat I will give rain to your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain; and thou shalt gather in thy corn, and thy new wine, and thine oil;
He will give the rain for your land at the right times, the early and late rain. So you may gather in your grain, your new wine and your oil.
15 a nd I will give grass in thy field for thy cattle; and thou shalt eat and be full.
He will give grass in your fields for your cattle. And you will eat and be filled.
16 T ake heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside and serve other gods, and bow down to them,
Be careful not to let your hearts be fooled so you turn away and work for other gods and worship them.
17 a nd Jehovah's wrath kindle against you, and he shut up the heavens, that there be no rain, and that the ground yield not its produce, and ye perish quickly from off the good land which Jehovah is giving you.
Or the anger of the Lord will burn against you. He will shut the heavens so there will be no rain and the ground will not give its fruit. Then you will be quick to die from the good land the Lord is giving you.
18 A nd ye shall lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.
“Keep these words of mine in your heart and in your soul. Tie them as something special to see upon your hand and on your forehead between your eyes.
19 A nd ye shall teach them unto your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou goest on the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up;
Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.
20 a nd write them upon the posts of thy house, and upon thy gates;
Write them beside the door of your house and on your gates.
21 t hat your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which Jehovah swore unto your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.
And your days and the days of your children will become many in the land the Lord promised to give to your fathers, as long as the heavens are above the earth.
22 F or if ye diligently keep all this commandment which I command you to do it, to love Jehovah your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him,
Be careful to obey all this Law which I am telling you. Love the Lord your God. Walk in all His ways and hold on to Him. If you do,
23 t hen will Jehovah dispossess all these nations from before you, and ye shall take possession of nations greater and mightier than yourselves.
the Lord will drive out all these nations in front of you. And you will take for your own what has belonged to nations greater and stronger than you.
24 E very place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours; from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the hinder sea shall your border be.
Every place where your foot steps will be yours. Your land will be from the desert to Lebanon, and from the River Euphrates to the sea in the west.
25 N o man shall be able to stand before you: the fear of you and the dread of you will Jehovah your God lay upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you.
There no man will be able to stand in front of you. The Lord your God will put the fear of you on all the land where you walk, as He has promised you.
26 S ee, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:
“See, I am putting in front of you today good and a curse.
27 a blessing, if ye obey the commandments of Jehovah your God, which I command you this day;
Good will come to you if you listen to the Laws of the Lord your God, which I am telling you today.
28 a nd a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of Jehovah your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods which ye have not known.
But a curse will come to you if you do not listen to the Laws of the Lord your God and turn aside from the way I am telling you today, by following other gods you have not known.
29 A nd it shall come to pass, when Jehovah thy God hath brought thee into the land whither thou enterest in to possess it, that thou shalt put the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal.
When the Lord your God brings you into the land which is to be yours, you are to speak on Mount Gerizim about the good and on Mount Ebal the curses.
30 A re they not on the other side of the Jordan, beyond the way toward the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites that dwell on the plain opposite to Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?
You know they are on the other side of the Jordan, west of the road where the sun goes down. They are in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, beside Gilgal, next to the trees of Moreh.
31 F or ye pass over the Jordan to enter in to possess the land which Jehovah your God giveth you, and ye shall take possession of it, and dwell therein.
You are about to cross the Jordan to go in to take the land the Lord your God is giving you. It will be your land and you will live in it.
32 A nd ye shall take heed to do all the statutes and ordinances which I set before you this day.
Be careful to obey all the Laws which I am giving you today.
