1 A nd it came to pass when mankind began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them,
When men became many in number on the earth, and daughters were born to them,
2 t hat the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and took themselves wives of all that they chose.
the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful. And they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.
3 A nd Jehovah said, My Spirit shall not always plead with Man; for he indeed is flesh; but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.
Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not stay in man forever, for he is flesh. But yet he will live for 120 years.”
4 I n those days were the giants on the earth, and also afterwards, when the sons of God had come in to the daughters of men, and they had borne to them; these were the heroes, who of old were men of renown.
Very large men were on the earth in those days, and later also, when the sons of God lived with the daughters of men, who gave birth to their children. These were the powerful men of long ago, men of much strength.
5 A nd Jehovah saw that the wickedness of Man was great on the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart only evil continually.
Then the Lord saw that man was very sinful on the earth. Every plan and thought of the heart of man was sinful always.
6 A nd Jehovah repented that he had made Man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.
The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth. He had sorrow in His heart.
7 A nd Jehovah said, I will destroy Man, whom I have created, from the earth—from man to cattle, to creeping things, and to fowl of the heavens; for I repent that I have made them.
So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have made from the land, man and animals, things that move upon the earth and birds of the sky. For I am sorry that I have made them.”
8 B ut Noah found favour in the eyes of Jehovah.
But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
9 T his is the history of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect amongst his generations: Noah walked with God.
This is the story of Noah and his family. Noah was right with God. He was without blame in his time. Noah walked with God.
10 A nd Noah begot three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
And Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 A nd the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was full of violence.
Now the earth was sinful in the eyes of God. The earth was filled with people hurting each other.
12 A nd God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted its way on the earth.
God looked at the earth and saw how sinful it was. For all who lived on the earth had become sinful in their ways.
13 A nd God said to Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is full of violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Then God said to Noah, “I have decided to make an end to all the people on the earth. They are the cause of very much trouble. See, I will destroy them as I destroy the earth.
14 M ake thyself an ark of gopher wood: cells shalt thou make the ark; and pitch it inside and outside with pitch.
Make a large boat of gopher wood for yourself. Build rooms in the boat. And cover it inside and out with tar.
15 A nd thus shalt thou make it: let the length of the ark be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
This is how you are to make it: The boat is to be as long as 150 long steps, as wide as twenty-five long steps, and eight times taller than a man.
16 A light shalt thou make to the ark; and to a cubit high shalt thou finish it above. And the door of the ark shalt thou set in its side: a lower, second, and third shalt thou make it.
Make a window for the boat, that goes down a cubit from the roof. Put a door in the side of the boat. And make it with first, second, and third floors.
17 F or I, behold, I bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh under the heavens in which is the breath of life: everything that is on the earth shall expire.
See, I will bring a flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh under heaven that has the breath of life. Everything on earth will be destroyed.
18 B ut with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt go into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.
But I will make My agreement with you. You will go into the large boat, you and your sons and your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
19 A nd of every living thing of all flesh, two of every shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep alive with thee: they shall be male and female.
You are to bring into the large boat two of every kind of living thing of all flesh, to keep them alive with you. They will be male and female.
20 O f fowl after their kind, and of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of each shall go in to thee, to keep alive.
Two of all the kinds of birds, and animals, and every thing that moves on the ground are to be with you to keep them alive.
21 A nd take thou of all food that is eaten, and gather to thee, that it may be for food for thee and for them.
And take with you every kind of food that is eaten, and store it. It will be food for you and for them.”
22 A nd Noah did it; according to all that God had commanded him, so did he.
Noah did just what God told him to do.
