1 Y e shall make yourselves no idols, neither rear you up for yourselves carved image, or statue, nor shall ye set up a figured stone in your land, to bow down unto it; for I am Jehovah your God.
‘Do not make gods for yourselves. Do not set up for yourselves something to look like a god or a holy object. Do not set up something cut from stone in your land to bow down to. For I am the Lord your God.
2 Y e shall observe my sabbaths, and my sanctuary shall ye reverence: I am Jehovah.
Keep My Days of Rest and honor My holy place. I am the Lord.
3 I f ye walk in my statutes, and observe my commandments and do them,
If you live by My Laws and do what I say,
4 t hen I will give your rain in the season thereof, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit;
I will give you rain at the right time. So the land will give its food and the trees will give their fruit.
5 a nd your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing-time; and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land securely.
The crushing of your grain will last until the grapes are gathered. The grape gathering will last until the seeds are planted. You will eat your food until you are full, and be safe living in your land.
6 A nd I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid; and I will put away the evil beasts out of the land; and the sword shall not go through your land.
I will give peace in the land. You will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will make the land free from the danger of wild animals. And no sword will move through your land.
7 A nd ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword;
You will go after those who hate you, and they will fall in front of you by the sword.
8 a nd five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; and your enemies shall fall beside you by the sword.
Five of you will go after a hundred. A hundred of you will go after ten thousand. And those who hate you will fall in front of you by the sword.
9 A nd I will turn my face towards you and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.
I will care for you and give you many children. I will keep My agreement with you.
10 A nd ye shall eat old store, and clear away the old because of the new.
You will eat last year’s food, and use it all because you will have new.
11 A nd I will set my habitation among you; and my soul shall not abhor you;
I will make My home among you. My soul will not turn away from you.
12 a nd I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be to me a people.
I will walk among you and be your God. And you will be My people.
13 I am Jehovah your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you walk upright.
I am the Lord your God Who brought you out of the land of Egypt so you would not be their servants. I have broken loose the heavy load from your back and made you walk straight. Punishment to Those Who Do Not Obey
14 B ut if ye hearken not unto me, and do not all these commandments,
‘But if you do not obey Me and do not do all I say,
15 a nd if ye shall despise my statutes, and if your soul shall abhor mine ordinances, so that ye do not all my commandments, that ye break my covenant,
if you turn away from My Laws and do not want to do what I tell you to do, and do not do it, and so break My agreement,
16 I also will do this unto you—I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and fever, which shall cause the eyes to fail, and the soul to waste away; and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
I will do this to you: I will bring upon you much fear, disease that destroys, and sickness that will waste away the eyes and make the body weak. You will plant your seeds for nothing, for those who hate you will eat it.
17 A nd I will set my face against you, that ye may be routed before your enemies; they that hate you shall have dominion over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.
I will turn against you so you will fall in front of those who fight you. Those who hate you will rule over you. You will run away when no one is coming after you.
18 A nd if for this ye hearken not unto me, I will punish you sevenfold more for your sins,
If after all of these things you still do not obey Me, I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
19 a nd I will break the arrogance of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as bronze,
I will break the pride you have of your power. I will make your sky like iron and your earth like brass.
20 a nd your strength shall be spent in vain, and your land shall not yield its produce; and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit.
You will use your strength for nothing. For your land will not give food, and the trees of the land will not give fruit.
21 A nd if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me, I will bring sevenfold more plagues upon you according to your sins.
‘If you act against Me and will not obey Me, I will bring you seven times more trouble than your sins.
22 A nd I will send the beasts of the field among you, that they may rob you of your children, and cut off your cattle, and make you few in number; and your streets shall be desolate.
I will let the wild animals loose among you. They will rob you of your children and destroy your cattle. They will make you few in number, so that your roads will be empty.
23 A nd if ye will not be disciplined by me through these, but walk contrary unto me,
‘If after these things you do not turn to Me, but still go against Me,
24 t hen will I also walk contrary unto you, and will smite you, even I, sevenfold for your sins.
then I will go against you. I Myself will punish you seven times for your sins.
25 A nd I will bring a sword upon you that avengeth with the vengeance of the covenant, and ye shall be gathered together into your cities, and I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
I will bring a sword upon you that will punish you for breaking the agreement. I will send disease among you when you gather together in your cities. So you will be given into the hands of those who hate you.
26 W hen I break the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and shall deliver you the bread again by weight; and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.
When I take away your bread of life, ten women will make your bread in one stove. They will give out your bread by weight. And you will eat it and not be filled.
27 A nd if for this ye hearken not to me, but walk contrary unto me,
‘If you still do not obey Me after all this, but go against Me,
28 t hen I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven-fold for your sins.
then I will go against you with anger. I Myself will punish you seven times for your sins.
29 A nd ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.
You will eat the flesh of your sons and daughters.
30 A nd I will lay waste your high places, and cut down your sun-pillars, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols; and my soul shall abhor you.
I will destroy your high places and cut down your altars of special perfume. I will throw your dead bodies on what is left of your gods. My soul will hate you.
31 A nd I will lay waste your cities and desolate your sanctuaries; and I will not smell your sweet odours.
I will destroy your cities also, and your holy places. I will not smell your pleasing smells.
32 A nd I will bring the land into desolation; that your enemies who dwell there in may be astonished at it.
I will destroy the land, so those living in it who hate you will be filled with fear because of it.
33 A nd I will scatter you among the nations, and will draw out the sword after you; and your land shall be desolation, and your cities waste.
I will divide you among the nations and send the sword after you. Your land will be destroyed and your cities a waste.
34 T hen shall the land enjoy its sabbaths all the days of the desolation, when ye are in your enemies' land; then shall the land rest, and enjoy its sabbaths.
‘Then the land will be like new because of its Days of Rest while it lies waste and you are in the land of those who hate you. Then the land will rest and have new life because of the Days of Rest.
35 A ll the days of the desolation it shall rest, which it did not rest on your sabbaths, when ye dwelt therein.
As long as it lies waste it will have the rest it did not have on your Days of Rest, while you were living in it.
36 A nd as to those that remain of you—I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies, that the sound of a driven leaf shall chase them, and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth;
Of those of you who are left in the lands of those who hate you, I will make their hearts weak. The sound of a leaf blown by the wind will make them run away even when no one is going after them. They will run away as if it were a sword, and they will fall.
37 a nd they shall stumble one over another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth; and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.
They will fall over each other as if running from the sword, when no one is going after them. You will have no strength to stand up in front of those who hate you.
38 A nd ye shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.
You will die among the nations. The land of those who hate you will eat you up.
39 A nd they that remain of you shall waste away through their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also through the iniquities of their fathers shall they waste away with them.
So those of you who are left will waste away in the lands of those who hate you, because of their sins. Also because of the sins of their fathers, they will waste away with them.
40 A nd they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, through their unfaithfulness wherein they were unfaithful to me, and also that they have walked contrary unto me,
‘If they tell their sins and the sins of their fathers which they did when they were not faithful to Me and were against Me with anger,
41 s o that I also walked contrary unto them, and brought them into the land of their enemies. If then their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their iniquity,
(I also was angry with them and brought them into the land of those who hate them) if their sinful heart loses its pride and they are willing to turn away from their sin,
42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.
I will remember My agreement with Jacob, My agreement with Isaac, and My agreement with Abraham. And I will remember the land.
43 F or the land shall be left by them, and shall enjoy its sabbaths, when it is in desolation without them; and they shall accept the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they despised my judgments, and their soul abhorred my statutes.
But the land will be left behind them and become better with its Days of Rest while it lies empty without them. During this time they will turn away from their sin because they had not done what I told them to do and their soul hated My Laws.
44 A nd yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not despise them, and will not abhor them, to make an end of them utterly, to break my covenant with them, for I am Jehovah their God.
Yet even when they are in the land of those who hate them, I will not turn away from them. I will not hate them enough to destroy them and break My agreement with them. For I am the Lord their God.
45 B ut I will remember toward them the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt before the eyes of the nations, that I might be their God: I am Jehovah.
But because of them I will remember the agreement with their fathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the eyes of the nations, to be their God. I am the Lord.’”
46 T hese are the statutes and ordinances and laws which Jehovah made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai, by the hand of Moses.
These are the Laws which the Lord made between Himself and the people of Israel through Moses at Mount Sinai.
