1 A nd Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandment which I command you this day.

Then Moses and the leaders of Israel said to the people, “Keep all the Laws which I tell you today.

2 A nd it shall be on the day when ye pass over the Jordan unto the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaster them with plaster:

On the day you cross the Jordan to the land the Lord your God gives you, set up large stones and cover them with plaster.

3 a nd thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou goest over that thou mayest enter into the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Jehovah the God of thy fathers hath promised thee.

Write on them all the words of this Law when you cross the river and go into the land the Lord your God gives you. It is a land flowing with milk and honey, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you.

4 A nd it shall be when ye go over the Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, as I command you this day, on mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaster them with plaster.

When you cross the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal and cover them with plaster, as I tell you today.

5 A nd there shalt thou build an altar to Jehovah thy God, an altar of stones; thou shalt not lift up an iron upon them;

Build an altar of stones there to the Lord your God. Do not work on them with an iron tool.

6 o f whole stones shalt thou build the altar of Jehovah thy God; and thou shalt offer up burnt-offerings thereon to Jehovah thy God.

And build the altar of the Lord your God with stones that are not cut. Then give a burnt gift on it to the Lord your God.

7 A nd thou shalt sacrifice peace-offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before Jehovah thy God.

Give peace gifts and eat there. And be full of joy before the Lord your God.

8 A nd thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

Write all the words of this Law on the stones. Make it easy to read.” What Happens to Those Who Do Not Obey

9 A nd Moses and the priests, the Levites, spoke to all Israel, saying, Be silent and hearken, Israel! this day thou art become the people of Jehovah thy God.

Then Moses and the Levite religious leaders said to all Israel, “Be quiet and listen, O Israel! This day you have become the people of the Lord your God.

10 A nd thou shalt hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

So obey the Lord your God. Keep all of His Laws which I tell you today.”

11 A nd Moses gave commandment to the people the same day, saying,

Moses told the people that same day,

12 T hese shall stand to bless the people upon mount Gerizim, when ye have gone over the Jordan: Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin.

“Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin will stand on Mount Gerizim when you cross the Jordan. They will pray that good will come to the people.

13 A nd these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse: Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

And Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali will stand on Mount Ebal to tell of the curses.

14 A nd the Levites shall declare and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice:

The Levites will say with a loud voice to all the people of Israel:

15 C ursed be the man that maketh a graven or molten image, an abomination to Jehovah, a work of the craftsman's hand, and putteth it up secretly! And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

‘Cursed is every man who makes a god or something to look like a god, the work of the hands of the able workman, and sets it up in secret. It is hated by the Lord.’ Then all the people will answer, ‘Let it be so.’

16 C ursed be he that slighteth his father or his mother! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the one who puts his father or mother to shame.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

17 C ursed be he that removeth his neighbour's landmark! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the man who moves his neighbor’s land-mark.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

18 C ursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the one who leads a blind person on the road the wrong way.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

19 C ursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the one who is not fair to a stranger, a child whose parents have died, and the woman whose husband has died.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

20 C ursed be he that lieth with his father's wife; for he uncovereth his father's skirt! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the man who lies with his father’s wife because he has taken off the clothes of her who belongs to his father.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

21 C ursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the man who lies with any animal.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

22 C ursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the man who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or mother.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

23 C ursed be he that lieth with his mother-in-law! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the man who lies with his mother-in-law.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

24 C ursed be he that smiteth his neighbour secretly! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the one who hits his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

25 C ursed be he that taketh reward to smite mortally innocent blood! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the one who receives pay to kill a person who is not guilty.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’

26 C ursed be he that confirmeth not the words of this law to do them! And all the people shall say, Amen.

‘Cursed is the one who does not obey the words of this Law.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
