1 B e merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; Fighting all day he oppresses me.

Show me Your loving-kindness, O God, for man has walked on me. All day long the one who tries to keep me down fights with me.

2 M y enemies would hound me all day, For there are many who fight against me, O Most High.

All day long those who hate me have walked on me. For there are many who fight against me with pride.

3 W henever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

When I am afraid, I will trust in You.

4 I n God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?

I praise the Word of God. I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can only a man do to me?

5 A ll day they twist my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil.

All day long they change my words to say what I did not say. They are always thinking of ways to hurt me.

6 T hey gather together, They hide, they mark my steps, When they lie in wait for my life.

They go after me as in a fight. They hide themselves. They watch my steps, as they have waited to take my life.

7 S hall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God!

Because they are bad, do not let them get away. Bring down the people in Your anger, O God.

8 Y ou number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?

You have seen how many places I have gone. Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?

9 W hen I cry out to You, Then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me.

Then those who hate me will turn back when I call. I know that God is for me.

10 I n God (I will praise His word), In the Lord (I will praise His word),

I praise the Word of God. I praise the Word of the Lord.

11 I n God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

In God I have put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

12 V ows made to You are binding upon me, O God; I will render praises to You,

I am under an agreement with You, O God. I will give You gifts of thanks.

13 F or You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, That I may walk before God In the light of the living?

For You have set my soul free from death. You have kept my feet from falling, so I may walk with God in the light of life.
