Psalm 36 ~ Psalm 36

1 A n oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes.

Sin speaks to the sinful man within his heart. There is no fear of God in his eyes.

2 F or he flatters himself in his own eyes, When he finds out his iniquity and when he hates.

For he makes much of himself in his own eyes. So his sin is not known and hated.

3 T he words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

The words of his mouth are sinful and false. He has stopped being wise and doing good.

4 H e devises wickedness on his bed; He sets himself in a way that is not good; He does not abhor evil.

He plans wrong-doing upon his bed. He sets himself on a path that is not good. He does not hate what is bad.

5 Y our mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

O Lord, Your loving-kindness goes to the heavens. You are as faithful as the sky is high.

6 Y our righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O Lord, You preserve man and beast.

You are as right and good as mountains are big. You are as fair when You judge as a sea is deep. O Lord, You keep safe both man and animal.

7 H ow precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.

Of what great worth is Your loving-kindness, O God! The children of men come and are safe in the shadow of Your wings.

8 T hey are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures.

They are filled with the riches of Your house. And You give them a drink from Your river of joy.

9 F or with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.

All life came from You. In Your light we see light.

10 O h, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, And Your righteousness to the upright in heart.

Keep on giving Your loving-kindness to those who know You. Keep on being right and good to the pure in heart.

11 L et not the foot of pride come against me, And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.

Do not let the foot of pride come near me. Do not let the hand of the sinful push me away.

12 T here the workers of iniquity have fallen; They have been cast down and are not able to rise.

There have the wrong-doers fallen. They have been thrown down, and cannot rise.
