picture

1 I n my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

I cried to the Lord in my trouble, and He answered me.

2 D eliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

O Lord, save me from lying lips and a false tongue.

3 W hat shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

What will be given to you and what more will be done to you, you false tongue?

4 S harp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

He will punish you with sharp arrows of the soldier, and with the hot fire of the broom tree.

5 W oe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

It is bad for me, for I travel in Meshech and live among the tents of Kedar!

6 M y soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

I have lived too long with those who hate peace.

7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

I am for peace. But when I speak, they are for war.
