1 T hese are the sons of Israel; Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun,

The sons of Israel were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,

2 D an, Joseph, and Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Napthali, Gad, and Asher. The Families from Judah to David

3 T he sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord; and he slew him.

The sons of Judah were Er, Onan and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bath-shua of Canaan. Judah’s first-born son Er was sinful in the eyes of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death.

4 A nd Tamar his daughter in law bore him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.

Judah’s daughter-in-law Tamar gave birth to Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.

5 T he sons of Pharez; Hezron, and Hamul.

The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

6 A nd the sons of Zerah; Zimri, and Ethan, and Heman, and Calcol, and Dara: five of them in all.

The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol and Dara, five in all.

7 A nd the sons of Carmi; Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the thing accursed.

Carmi’s son was Achar, who brought trouble to Israel by sinning against what was holy.

8 A nd the sons of Ethan; Azariah.

The son of Ethan was Azariah.

9 T he sons also of Hezron, that were born unto him; Jerahmeel, and Ram, and Chelubai.

The sons born to Hezron were Jerahmeel, Ram and Chelubai.

10 A nd Ram begat Amminadab; and Amminadab begat Nahshon, prince of the children of Judah;

Ram was the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, the leader of the sons of Judah.

11 A nd Nahshon begat Salma, and Salma begat Boaz,

Nahshon was the father of Salma. Salma was the father of Boaz.

12 A nd Boaz begat Obed, and Obed begat Jesse,

Boaz was the father of Obed. And Obed was the father of Jesse.

13 A nd Jesse begat his firstborn Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimma the third,

Jesse was the father of Eliab his first-born, then Abinadab his second son, and Shimea his third.

14 N ethaneel the fourth, Raddai the fifth,

Nethanel was his fourth son, Raddai the fifth,

15 O zem the sixth, David the seventh:

Ozem the sixth, and David the seventh.

16 W hose sisters were Zeruiah, and Abigail. And the sons of Zeruiah; Abishai, and Joab, and Asahel, three.

Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah’s three sons were Abshai, Joab and Asahel.

17 A nd Abigail bare Amasa: and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmeelite.

Abigail gave birth to Amasa. And Amasa’s father was Jether the Ishmaelite. The Family of Hezron

18 A nd Caleb the son of Hezron begat children of Azubah his wife, and of Jerioth: her sons are these; Jesher, and Shobab, and Ardon.

Hezron’s son Caleb had sons by his wives Azubah and Jerioth. Azubah’s sons were Jesher, Shobab and Ardon.

19 A nd when Azubah was dead, Caleb took unto him Ephrath, which bare him Hur.

When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath. She gave birth to his son Hur.

20 A nd Hur begat Uri, and Uri begat Bezaleel.

Hur was the father of Uri. And Uri was the father of Bezalel.

21 A nd afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was threescore years old; and she bare him Segub.

Later, when Hezron was sixty years old, he married the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead. She gave birth to his son Segub.

22 A nd Segub begat Jair, who had three and twenty cities in the land of Gilead.

Segub was the father of Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.

23 A nd he took Geshur, and Aram, with the towns of Jair, from them, with Kenath, and the towns thereof, even threescore cities. All these belonged to the sons of Machir the father of Gilead.

But Geshur and Aram took the towns of Jair from them, with Kenath and its towns. They took sixty cities in all. All these were the sons of Machir, the father of Gilead.

24 A nd after that Hezron was dead in Calebephratah, then Abiah Hezron's wife bare him Ashur the father of Tekoa.

After Hezron died in Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah gave birth to his son Ashhur. Ashhur was the father of Tekoa. The Family of Jerahmeel

25 A nd the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were, Ram the firstborn, and Bunah, and Oren, and Ozem, and Ahijah.

The sons of Hezron’s first-born Jerahmeel were Ram the first-born, then Bunah, Oren, Ozem and Ahijah.

26 J erahmeel had also another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam.

Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah. She was the mother of Onam.

27 A nd the sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel were, Maaz, and Jamin, and Eker.

The sons of Jerahmeel’s first-born son Ram were Maaz, Jamin and Eker.

28 A nd the sons of Onam were, Shammai, and Jada. And the sons of Shammai; Nadab and Abishur.

The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. And the sons of Shammai were Nadab and Abishur.

29 A nd the name of the wife of Abishur was Abihail, and she bare him Ahban, and Molid.

The name of Abishur’s wife was Abihail. She gave birth to his sons Ahban and Molid.

30 A nd the sons of Nadab; Seled, and Appaim: but Seled died without children.

The sons of Nadab were Seled and Appaim. Seled died without sons.

31 A nd the sons of Appaim; Ishi. And the sons of Ishi; Sheshan. And the children of Sheshan; Ahlai.

Appaim’s son was Ishi. Ishi’s son was Sheshan. And Sheshan’s son was Ahlai.

32 A nd the sons of Jada the brother of Shammai; Jether, and Jonathan: and Jether died without children.

The sons of Shammai’s brother Jada were Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without sons.

33 A nd the sons of Jonathan; Peleth, and Zaza. These were the sons of Jerahmeel.

The sons of Jonathan were Peleth and Zaza. These were the sons of Jerahmeel.

34 N ow Sheshan had no sons, but daughters. And Sheshan had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Jarha.

Now Sheshan had no sons, only daughters. And Sheshan had an Egyptian servant whose name was Jarha.

35 A nd Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant to wife; and she bare him Attai.

Sheshan gave his daughter to his servant Jarha in marriage. And she gave birth to his son Attai.

36 A nd Attai begat Nathan, and Nathan begat Zabad,

Attai was the father of Nathan. Nathan was the father of Zabad.

37 A nd Zabad begat Ephlal, and Ephlal begat Obed,

Zabad was the father of Ephlal. Ephlal was the father of Obed.

38 A nd Obed begat Jehu, and Jehu begat Azariah,

Obed was the father of Jehu. Jehu was the father of Azariah.

39 A nd Azariah begat Helez, and Helez begat Eleasah,

Azariah was the father of Helez. Helez was the father of Eleasah.

40 A nd Eleasah begat Sisamai, and Sisamai begat Shallum,

Eleasah was the father of Sismai. Sismai was the father of Shallum.

41 A nd Shallum begat Jekamiah, and Jekamiah begat Elishama.

Shallum was the father of Jekamiah. And Jekamiah was the father of Elishama. The Family of Caleb

42 N ow the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were, Mesha his firstborn, which was the father of Ziph; and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron.

These are the sons of Jerahmeel’s brother Caleb. Mesha was his first-born and the father of Ziph. His son was Mareshah, the father of Hebron.

43 A nd the sons of Hebron; Korah, and Tappuah, and Rekem, and Shema.

The sons of Hebron were Korah, Tappuah, Rekem and Shema.

44 A nd Shema begat Raham, the father of Jorkoam: and Rekem begat Shammai.

Shema was the father of Raham, the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai.

45 A nd the son of Shammai was Maon: and Maon was the father of Bethzur.

Shammai’s son was Maon. Maon was the father of Bethzur.

46 A nd Ephah, Caleb's concubine, bare Haran, and Moza, and Gazez: and Haran begat Gazez.

Ephah was the woman who acted as Caleb’s wife. She gave birth to Haran, Moza and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez.

47 A nd the sons of Jahdai; Regem, and Jotham, and Gesham, and Pelet, and Ephah, and Shaaph.

The sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.

48 M aachah, Caleb's concubine, bare Sheber, and Tirhanah.

Maacah, who acted as Caleb’s wife, gave birth to Sheber and Tirhanah.

49 S he bare also Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbenah, and the father of Gibea: and the daughter of Caleb was Achsa.

She also gave birth to Shaaph the father of Madmannah, and Sheva the father of Machbena and Gibea. Caleb’s daughter was Achsah.

50 T hese were the sons of Caleb the son of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah; Shobal the father of Kirjathjearim.

These were the children of Caleb. The sons of Ephrathah’s first-born son Hur were Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim,

51 S alma the father of Bethlehem, Hareph the father of Bethgader.

Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth-gader.

52 A nd Shobal the father of Kirjathjearim had sons; Haroeh, and half of the Manahethites.

Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim had other sons. These were Haroeh, half of the Manahathites,

53 A nd the families of Kirjathjearim; the Ithrites, and the Puhites, and the Shumathites, and the Mishraites; of them came the Zareathites, and the Eshtaulites,

and the families of Kiriath-jearim. These families were the Ithrites, the Puthites, the Shumathites, and the Mishraites. From these came the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites.

54 T he sons of Salma; Bethlehem, and the Netophathites, Ataroth, the house of Joab, and half of the Manahethites, the Zorites.

The sons of Salma were Bethlehem and the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, half of the Manahathites, and the Zorites.

55 A nd the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab.

The families of the writers who lived at Jabez were the Tirathites, the Shimeathites and the Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.
