1 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

The Lord said to Moses,

2 O n the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.

“Set up the holy tent, the meeting tent, on the first day of the first month.

3 A nd thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and cover the ark with the vail.

Put the special box of the Law there. And hang the curtain in front of it.

4 A nd thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light the lamps thereof.

Bring in the table and set its objects on it. Bring in the lamp-stand and light its lamps.

5 A nd thou shalt set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle.

Set the gold altar of special perfume in front of the box of the Law. Hang the curtain for the door of the meeting tent.

6 A nd thou shalt set the altar of the burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.

Set the altar of burnt gifts in front of the door of the holy tent, the meeting tent.

7 A nd thou shalt set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and shalt put water therein.

Set the washing pot between the meeting tent and the altar and put water in it.

8 A nd thou shalt set up the court round about, and hang up the hanging at the court gate.

Hang the curtains all around the open space and hang the curtain at the gate of the open space.

9 A nd thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.

Then take the oil and pour it upon the meeting tent and all that is in it. Set it apart with all its objects, and it will be holy.

10 A nd thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt offering, and all his vessels, and sanctify the altar: and it shall be an altar most holy.

Pour the oil upon the altar of burnt gifts and all its objects. Set the altar apart, and it will be most holy.

11 A nd thou shalt anoint the laver and his foot, and sanctify it.

Pour the oil upon the washing pot and its stand, to set it apart.

12 A nd thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.

“Then bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the meeting tent. And wash them with water.

13 A nd thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.

Put the holy clothing on Aaron. Then pour oil upon him and set him apart to work for Me as a religious leader.

14 A nd thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats:

Bring his sons and put long coats on them.

15 A nd thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office: for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.

Then pour oil upon them as you have done to their father, so they may serve Me as religious leaders. Pouring oil upon them will make them ready to be religious leaders, they and all their children-to-come.”

16 T hus did Moses: according to all that the Lord commanded him, so did he.

Moses did all that the Lord told him to do.

17 A nd it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.

On the first day of the first month of the second year, the meeting tent was set up.

18 A nd Moses reared up the tabernacle, and fastened his sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up his pillars.

Moses set up the meeting tent, laid the bases, set up its pieces of wood, put in its cross-pieces and set up its pillars.

19 A nd he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the Lord commanded Moses.

He spread the covering over the meeting tent. And he put the top covering over it, just as the Lord had told Moses.

20 A nd he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy seat above upon the ark:

Then he took the Law and put it into the special box. He put the long pieces of wood on the special box of the agreement. And he put the mercy-seat on top of the special box.

21 A nd he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the vail of the covering, and covered the ark of the testimony; as the Lord commanded Moses.

He brought the special box into the meeting tent and hung the curtain. He put the curtain in front of the special box of the agreement, just as the Lord had told Moses.

22 A nd he put the table in the tent of the congregation, upon the side of the tabernacle northward, without the vail.

Then he put the table in the meeting tent, on the north side of the tent, outside the curtain.

23 A nd he set the bread in order upon it before the Lord; as the Lord had commanded Moses.

He set the bread in its place on the table before the Lord, just as the Lord had told Moses.

24 A nd he put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward.

Then he put the lamp-stand in the meeting tent, away from the table, on the south side of the tent.

25 A nd he lighted the lamps before the Lord; as the Lord commanded Moses.

He set up the lamps before the Lord, just as the Lord had told Moses.

26 A nd he put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation before the vail:

He put the gold altar in the tent of meeting, in front of the curtain.

27 A nd he burnt sweet incense thereon; as the Lord commanded Moses.

And he burned sweet-smelling perfume on it, just as the Lord had told Moses.

28 A nd he set up the hanging at the door of the tabernacle.

Then he hung the curtain at the door of the meeting tent.

29 A nd he put the altar of burnt offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the meat offering; as the Lord commanded Moses.

He set the altar of burnt gifts in front of the door of the meeting tent. And he gave the burnt gift and the grain gift on it, just as the Lord had told Moses.

30 A nd he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withal.

He put the washing pot between the tent of meeting and the altar, with water in it for washing.

31 A nd Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat:

Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and feet there.

32 W hen they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the Lord commanded Moses.

They washed when they came into the tent of meeting and when they came near the altar, just as the Lord had told Moses.

33 A nd he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work.

He made the open space all around the meeting tent and the altar. And he hung the curtain for the gate of the open space. So Moses finished the work. The Cloud over the Meeting Tent

34 T hen a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

Then the cloud covered the meeting tent. The shining-greatness of the Lord filled the holy tent.

35 A nd Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

Moses was not able to go into the meeting tent because the cloud had rested upon it and the shining-greatness of the Lord filled the holy tent.

36 A nd when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys:

When the cloud was lifted from the meeting tent, the people of Israel would go on their way through all their traveling days.

37 B ut if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up.

But when the cloud was not lifted, they did not move on until the day when it was lifted.

38 F or the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

For the cloud of the Lord rested on the meeting tent during the day. And fire was in the cloud during the night. It was seen by all the people of Israel as they traveled.
