1 ي ا بُنَيَّ، إنْ قَبِلْتَ كَلِماتِي، وَخَبَّأْتَ وَصايايَ عِندَكَ،

¶ My son, if thou wilt receive my words and hide my commandments within thee

2 ح َتَّى تَستَمِعَ إلَى الحِكْمَةِ، وَتُمِيلَ ذِهنَكَ إلَى الفَهْمِ،

so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and apply thine heart to intelligence,

3 إ نْ دَعَوتَ التَمييزَ بِإلحاحٍ، وَرَفَعْتَ صَوتَكَ فَناديتَ الفَهْمَ،

yea, if thou criest for understanding and givest thy voice unto intelligence,

4 إ نْ بَحَثْتَ عَنها مِثلَ بَحثِكَ عَنِ الفِضَّةِ، وَفَتَّشْتَ عَنْها مِثلَ تَفتِيشِكَ عَنِ الكَنزِ المَخفِيِّ،

if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures,

5 ع ِندَئِذٍ سَتَفهَمُ مَهابَةَ اللهِ ، وَسَتَجِدُ مَعرِفَةَ اللهِ.

then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

6 ل ِأنَّ اللهَ يُعطِي الحِكْمَةَ، وَمِنْ فَمِهِ تَأْتِي المَعرِفَةُ وَالفَهْمُ.

For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence.

7 ي ُعْطِي إرْشاداً وقُدرةً للمستقيمينَ، وَيحْمي الذينَ يسلُكُونَ بِالاستقامةِ وَالصَّلاح.

He keeps the person of the upright; he is a buckler to those that walk perfectly,

8 ي َفْعَلُ هذا لِيَحْرُسَ طُرُقَ الحَقِّ، وَيَحمِي طَرِيقَ الَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَهُ.

keeping the paths of judgment and the way of his merciful ones.

9 ع ِندَئِذٍ سَتَفهَمُ البِرَّ وَالعَدلَ وَالاستَقامَةَ، وَسَتَفهَمُ كُلَّ طَرِيقٍ صالِحٍ.

Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity, yea, every good path.

10 ل ِأنَّ الحِكْمَةَ سَتَدخُلُ عَقلَكَ، وَسَتَلَذُّ لَكَ المَعرِفَةُ.

¶ When wisdom enters into thine heart and knowledge is sweet unto thy soul,

11 ا لتَّعَقُّلُ سَيَحفَظُكَ، وَالفَهْمُ سَيَحمِيكَ.

discretion shall preserve thee, intelligence shall keep thee

12 ف َتَنجُو مِنْ طَرِيقِ الشِّرِّيرِ، وَمِنَ الكاذِبِينَ وَالمُتَكَلِّمِينَ بأُمُورٍ مُنْحَرِفَةٍ،

to deliver thee from the evil way, from the man that speaks perversion,

13 ا لَّذِينَ تَرَكُوا الصِّدقَ لِيَمشُوا فِي الطُّرُقِ المُظلِمَةِ،

who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness,

14 ا لَّذِينَ يَفرَحُونَ بِعَمَلِ الشَّرِّ، وَيَبتَهِجُونَ بِأكاذِيبِ الشِّرِّيرِ.

who rejoice to do evil and delight in wicked perversion,

15 ط ُرُقُهُمْ مُلْتَوِيَةٌ وَهُمْ مُعْوَجُّونَ فِي سُبُلِهِمْ.

whose ways are crooked, and they are crooked in their paths;

16 ك َما تَنجُو مِنَ المَرأةِ الَّتِي خانَتْ زَوجَها، وَمِنَ لِسانِ الزّانِيَةِ المَعسُولِ.

to deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger who flatters with her words,

17 ت َرَكَتْ زَوجَها، رَفِيقَ صِباها، وَنَسِيَتْ عَهدَها المُقَدَّسَ.

who forsakes the prince of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.

18 ل ِأنَّ بَيتَها فَخٌّ يَقُودُ إلَى المَوتِ، وَسُبُلَها تَقُودُ إلَى الجَحِيمِ.

Therefore her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

19 ك ُلُّ مَنْ يَذْهَبُ إلَيها لا يَعُودُ. وَلا يَجِدُ طَرِيقَ الحَياةِ مِنْ جَدِيدٍ.

None that go unto her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life.

20 ا لحِكْمَةُ تُعينُكَ لِتَسلُكَ فِي طَرِيقِ الصّالِحِينَ، وَتَلتَزِمَ بِسُبُلِ العَدلِ.

That thou may walk in the way of good men and keep the paths of the righteous.

21 ل ِأنَّ الأُمَناءَ سَيَعِيشُونَ فِي أرْضِهِمْ، وَالمُسْتَقِيمِينَ سَيَبقَوْنَ فِيها.

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

22 أ مّا الأشرارُ فَسَيُقطَعُونَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الأرْضِ، وَالخائِنُونَ سيُطرَدُونَ مِنْها.

But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
