1 و َبَعْدَ أنْ أُعِيدَ بِناءُ السُّورِ، وَثُبِّتَتِ الأبْوابُ فِي مَكانِها، تَمَّ تَعيِينُ حُرّاسٍ لِلأبوابِ، وَمُرَنِّمِينَ وَلاوِيِّينَ لِلقِيامِ بِمَهَمّاتِهِمْ.

¶ Now it came to pass, when the wall was built and I had set up the doors and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

2 ث ُمَّ جَعَلْتُ أخِي حَنانِيَ مَسؤُولاً عَنْ مَدِينَةِ القُدسِ، لِأنَّ حَنانِيَ كانَ أمِيناً وَيَخافُ اللهَ أكثَرَ مِنْ مُعْظَمِ النّاسِ. وَعَيَّنْتُ حَنَنْيا رَئِيساً لِلحِصْنِ.

that I commanded my brother Hanani, and Hananiah, the prince of the palace in Jerusalem (for he was as a man of truth and feared God above many);

3 و َقُلْتُ لَهُما: «يَنْبَغِي أنْ تُفْتَحَ أبْوابُ القُدسِ بَعْدَ ساعاتٍ مِنْ شُرُوقِ الشَّمْسِ، وَيَنْبَغِي أنْ تُغلَقَ قَبلَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ. ضَعا حُرّاساً مِنْ سُكّانِ القُدْسِ، ضَعا بَعْضاً عِندَ نِقاطِ الحِراسَةِ، وَبَعْضاً أمامَ بُيُوتِهِمْ.»

and I said unto them, Do not let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot and even with the guards present, let them shut the doors and bar them. And appoint guards of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each one in his watch and each one to be in front of his house.

4 ك انَتِ المَدِينَةُ مُمتَدَّةً وَكَبِيرَةً، لَكِنَّ النّاسَ الَّذِينَ يَسكُنُونَها قَلِيلُونَ، لِأنَّهُ لَمْ يَتِمَّ بِناءُ عَدَدٍ كافٍ مِنَ البُيُوتِ ثانِيَةً. قائِمَةُ العَأئِدِين

Now the city was large and great, but there were few people in it, and the houses were not rebuilt.

5 و َدَفَعَنِي إلَهِي إلَى جَمْعِ الأشْرافِ وَالمَسؤُولِينَ وَعامَّةِ النّاسِ مِنْ أجلِ تَسجِيلِهِمْ حَسَبَ عائِلاتِهِمْ. فَوَجَدْتُ سِجِلّاتٍ لِلعائِلاتِ الَّتِي عادَتْ مِنَ السَّبْيِ أوَّلاً. وَوَجَدْتُ مَكتُوباً فِيها:

¶ And my God put it into my heart to gather together the principals and the rulers and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found the register of the genealogy of those who had come up before and found written therein:

6 ه َذِهِ هِيَ أسماءُ سُكّانِ المِنطَقَةِ الَّذِينَ عادُوا مِنَ السَّبْيِ، الَّذِينَ كانَ نَبُوخَذْناصَّرُ مَلِكُ بابِلَ قَدْ سَباهُمْ، فَعادُوا إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ وَيَهُوذا، كُلُّ واحِدٍ إلَى مَدِينَتِهِ.

These are the sons of the province, that came up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had carried away and returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, each one unto his city,

7 ج اءُوا مَعَ زَرُبّابِلَ وَيَشُوعَ وَنَحَمْيا وَعَزَرْيا وَرَعَمْيا وَنَحَمانِيَ وَمُردَخايَ وَبَلْشانَ وَمِسْفارَثَ وَبِغْوايَ وَناحُومَ وَبَعْنَةَ. هَذِهِ قائِمَةٌ بِأسماءِ مُجمَلِ رِجالِ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ الَّذِينَ عادُوا وَأعْدادِهِمْ:

who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:

8 ب َنُو فَرْعُوشَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفانِ وَمِئَةٌ وَاثْنانِ وَسَبْعُونَ.

The sons of Parosh, two thousand one hundred and seventy-two.

9 ب َنُو شَفَطْيا وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَسَبْعُونَ.

The sons of Shephatiah, three hundred and seventy-two.

10 ب َنُو آرَحَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَخَمْسُونَ.

The sons of Arah, six hundred and fifty-two.

11 ب َنُو فَحَثَ مُوآبَ مِنْ عائِلَةِ يَشُوعَ وَيُوآبَ، وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفانِ وَثَمانُ مِئَةٍ وَثَمانِيَةَ عَشَرَ.

The sons of Pahathmoab, of the sons of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand eight hundred and eighteen.

12 ب َنُو عِيلامَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَمِئَتانِ وَأرْبَعَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ.

The sons of Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four.

13 ب َنُو زَتُّو وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَمانُ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

The sons of Zattu, eight hundred and forty-five.

14 ب َنُو زَكّايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَسِتُّونَ.

The sons of Zaccai, seven hundred and sixty.

15 ب َنُو بِنُّويَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

The sons of Binnui, six hundred and forty-eight.

16 ب َنُو بابايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The sons of Bebai, six hundred and twenty-eight.

17 ب َنُو عَزْجَدَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفانِ وَثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The sons of Azgad, two thousand three hundred and twenty-two.

18 ب َنُو أدُونِيقامَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَسَبْعَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ.

The sons of Adonikam, six hundred and seventy-seven.

19 ب َنُو بِغْوايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفانِ وَسَبْعَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ.

The sons of Bigvai, two thousand sixty-seven.

20 ب َنُو عادِينَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ.

The sons of Adin, six hundred and fifty-five.

21 ب َنُو أطِّيرَ، مِنْ عائِلَةِ حَزَقِيّا، وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَمانِيَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ.

The sons of Ater of Hezekiah, ninety-eight.

22 ب َنُو حَشُومَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The sons of Hashum, three hundred and twenty-eight.

23 ب َنُو بِيصايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَأرْبَعَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The sons of Bezai, three hundred and twenty-four.

24 ب َنُو حارِيفَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَاثْنا عَشَرَ.

The sons of Hariph, one hundred and twelve.

25 ب َنُو جِبْعُونَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ خَمْسَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ.

The sons of Gibeon, ninety-five.

26 ا لرِجالُ مِنْ بَلدَتِي بَيْتَ لَحْمَ وَنَطُوفَةَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَثَمانيَةٌ وَثَمانُونَ.

The men of Bethlehem and Netophah, one hundred and eighty-eight.

27 ا لرِجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ عَناثُوثَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The men of Anathoth, one hundred and twenty-eight.

28 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلْدَةِ بَيْتِ عَزْمُوتَ وَعَدَدُهُمُ اثْنانِ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

The men of Bethazmaveth, forty-two.

29 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ قَرْيَةِ يَعارِيمَ وكَفِيرَةَ وَبَئِيرُوتَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

The men of Kirjathjearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, seven hundred and forty-three.

30 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَتِي الرّامَةِ وَجَبَعَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَواحِدٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The men of Ramah and of Geba, six hundred and twenty-one.

31 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ مِخْماسَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَاثْنانِ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The men of Michmas, one hundred and twenty-two.

32 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَتِي بَيْتِ إيلَ وعايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَثَلاثةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The men of Bethel and Ai, one hundred and twenty-three.

33 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ نَبُو الأُخْرَى وَعَدَدُهُمُ اثْنانِ وَخَمْسُونَ.

The men of the other Nebo, fifty-two.

34 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ عِيلامَ الأُخْرَى وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَمِئَتانِ وَأرْبَعَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ.

The sons of the other Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four.

35 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ حارِيمَ وَعدَدُهم ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The sons of Harim, three hundred and twenty.

36 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ أرِيحا وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

The sons of Jericho, three hundred and forty-five.

37 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلداتِ لُودَ وَحادِيدَ وَأُونُو وَعَدَدُهُمْ سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَواحِدٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

The sons of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred and twenty-one.

38 ا لرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ سَناءَةَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثَةُ آلافٍ وَتِسْعُ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثُونَ.

The sons of Senaah, three thousand nine hundred and thirty.

39 أ مّا الكَهَنَةُ فَهُمْ: بَنُو يَدْعِيا، مِنْ عائِلَةِ يَشُوعَ، وَعَدَدُهُمْ تِسْعُ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ.

The priests: the sons of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred and seventy-three.

40 ب َنُو إمِّيرَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَاثْنانِ وَخَمْسُونَ.

The sons of Immer, one thousand fifty-two.

41 ب َنُو فَشْحُورَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَمِئَتانِ وَسَبْعَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

The sons of Pashur, one thousand two hundred and forty-seven.

42 ب َنُو حارِيمَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَسَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ.

The sons of Harim, one thousand and seventeen.

43 أ مّا اللّاوِيُّونَ فَهُمْ: بَنُو يَشُوعَ مِنْ طَرَفِ قَدْمِيئِيلَ، مِنْ عائِلَةِ هُودُويا، وَعَدَدُهُمْ أرْبَعَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ.

The Levites: the sons of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and of the sons of Hodevah, seventy-four.

44 و َالمُرَنِّمونَ هُمْ: بَنُو آسافَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

The singers: the sons of Asaph, one hundred and forty-eight.

45 أ مّا حُرّاسُ بوّاباتِ الهَيْكَلِ فَهُمْ: بَنُو شَلُّومَ وَبَنُو أطِيرَ وَبَنُو طَلْمُونَ وَبَنُو عَقُّوبَ وَبَنُو حَطِيطا وَبَنُو شُوبايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ جَمِيعاً مِئَةٌ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَثَلاثُونَ.

The porters: the sons of Shallum, the sons of Ater, the sons of Talmon, the sons of Akkub, the sons of Hatita, the sons of Shobai, one hundred thirty-eight.

46 و َهَذِهِ أسْماءُ خُدّامِ الهَيكَلِ: بَنُو صِيحا وَبَنُو حَسُوفا وَبَنُو طَباعُوتَ.

The Nethinims: the sons of Ziha, the sons of Hashupha, the sons of Tabbaoth,

47 و َبَنُو قِيرُوسَ وَبَنُو سِيعا وَبَنُو فادُونَ.

the sons of Keros, the sons of Sia, the sons of Padon,

48 و َبَنُو لَبانَةَ وَبَنُو حَجابا وَبَنُو سَلْمايَ.

the sons of Lebana, the sons of Hagaba, the sons of Shalmai,

49 و َبَنُو حانانَ وَبَنُو جَدِيلَ وَبَنُو جاحَرَ.

the sons of Hanan, the sons of Giddel, the sons of Gahar,

50 و َبَنُو رَآيا وَبَنُو رَصِينَ وَبَنُو نَقُودا.

the sons of Reaiah, the sons of Rezin, the sons of Nekoda,

51 و َبَنُو جَزامَ وَبَنُو عَزا وَبَنُو فاسِيحَ.

the sons of Gazzam, the sons of Uzza, the sons of Phaseah,

52 و َبَنُو بِيسايَ وَبَنُو مَعُونِيمَ وَبَنُو نَفِيشَسِيمَ.

the sons of Besai, the sons of Meunim, the sons of Nephishesim,

53 و َبَنُو بَقْبُوقَ وَبَنُو حَقُوفا وَبَنُو حَرْحُورَ.

the sons of Bakbuk, the sons of Hakupha, the sons of Harhur,

54 و َبَنُو بَصلِيتَ وَبَنُو مَحِيدا وَبَنُو حَرْشا.

the sons of Bazlith, the sons of Mehida, the sons of Harsha,

55 و َبَنُو بَرْقُوسَ وَبَنُو سِيسَرا وَبَنُو تامَحَ.

the sons of Barkos, the sons of Sisera, the sons of Tamah,

56 و َبَنُو نَصِيحَ وَبَنُو حَطِيفا.

the sons of Neziah, the sons of Hatipha.

57 و َهَذِهِ أسماءُ نَسلِ خُدّامِ سُلَيْمانَ: بَنُو سُوطايَ وَبَنُو سُوفَرَثَ وَبَنُو فَرِيدا.

The sons of Solomon’s slaves: the sons of Sotai, the sons of Sophereth, the sons of Perida,

58 و َبَنُو يَعلا وَبَنُو دَرْقُونَ وَبَنُو جَدِّيلَ.

the sons of Jaala, the sons of Darkon, the sons of Giddel,

59 و َبَنُو شَفَطْيا وَبَنُو حَطِّيلَ وَبَنُو فُوخَرَةَ الظِّباءَ وَبَنُو آمُونَ.

the sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth of Zebaim, the sons of Amon.

60 و َعَدَدُ خُدّامِ الهَيكَلِ وَأبناءِ خُدّامِ سُلَيْمانَ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَتِسْعُونَ.

All the Nethinims, and the sons of Solomon’s slaves, were three hundred and ninety-two.

61 و َجاءَتِ الجَماعاتُ التّالِيةُ إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ مِنْ تَلِّ مِلْحٍ وَتَلِّ حَرْشا وَكَرُوبَ وَأدُونَ وَإمِّيرَ، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَتَمَكَّنُوا مِنْ إثباتِ نَسَبِهِمْ إلَى بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ:

And these were they which came up also from Telmelah, Telharesha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not show their father’s house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel.

62 ب َنُو دَلايا وَبَنُو طُوبِيّا وَبَنُو نَقُودا، وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

The sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda, six hundred and forty-two.

63 و َمِنَ عائِلَةِ الكَهَنَةِ: بَنُو حَبابا وَبَنُو هَقُّوسَ وَبَنُو بَرْزِلّايَ الَّذِي تَزَوَّجَ مِنْ إحدَى بَناتِ بَرْزِلّايَ الجِلْعادِيِّ، وَتَسَمَّى بِاسْمِهِمْ.

And of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Koz, the sons of Barzillai, who took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name.

64 ب َحَثَ هَؤُلاءِ فِي السِّجِلّاتِ الرَّسْمِيَّةِ عَنْ أصلِهِمْ وَنَسَبِهِمْ، فَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ ذِكْرٌ فِيها، فَتَمَّ اسْتِثْناؤُهُمْ مِنْ خِدْمَةِ الكَهَنَةِ.

These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found; therefore, were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

65 و َأمَرَهُمِ الوالِي بِأنْ لا يَأكُلُوا مِنْ أطعِمَةِ قُدْسِ الأقدْاسِ إلَى أن يَظهَرَ كاهِنٌ يَستَطِيعُ أن يَسألَ اللهَ بِواسِطَةِ الأُورِيمِ وَالتُّمِّيمِ فِي أمْرِهِمْ.

And the Tirshatha said unto them that they should not eat of the most holy things until there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.

66 و َقَد بَلَغَ مَجمُوعُ الجَماعَةِ اثْنَينِ وَأربَعينَ ألفاً وَثَلاثَ مِئِةٍ وَسِتِّينَ.

The whole congregation united as one man was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty,

67 ع َدا خُدّامِهِمْ وَخادِماتِهِمِ الَّذِينَ بَلَغَ عَدَدُهُمْ سَبْعَةَ آلافٍ وَثَلاثَ مِئَةٍ وَسَبْعَةً وَثَلاثِينَ. كَما كانَ مَعَهُمْ مِئَتا مُرَنِّمٍ وَمُرَنَّمَةٍ.

not counting their menslaves and their maidslaves, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred and forty-five men and women singers.

68 و َكانَ لَدَيْهِمْ سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَسِتَّةٌ وَثَلاثُونَ حِصانا، وَمِئَتانِ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ بَغلاً،

Their horses, seven hundred and thirty-six; their mules, two hundred and forty-five:

69 و َأرْبَعُمِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَثَلاثُونَ جَمَلاً، وَسِتَّةُ آلافٍ وَسَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَعِشْرُونَ حِماراً.

Their camels, four hundred and thirty-five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

70 و َقَدْ قَدَّمَ بَعْضُ رُؤَساءِ العائِلاتِ مِنْ مالِهِمْ لِلإنفاقِ عَلَى إعادَةِ بِناءِ الهَيْكَلِ. فَقَدْ قَدَّمَ الوالِي لِلخَزْنَةِ ألْفَ دِرْهَمٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ، وَخَمْسِينَ طاساً لِلاغْتِسالِ، وَخَمْسَ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثِينَ ثُوباً للْكَهَنَةِ.

And some of the princes of the families gave unto the work. The Tirshatha gave for the treasure one thousand drams of gold, fifty basins, and five hundred and thirty priests’ garments.

71 و َقَدَّمَ رُؤَساءُ العائِلاتِ عِشرِينَ ألفَ دِرْهَمٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ، وَألفينِ وِمِئتَي رَطلٍ مِنَ الفِضَّةِ.

And the princes of the families gave for the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold and two thousand two hundred pounds of silver.

72 و َقَدَّمَ بَقِيَّةُ الشَّعبِ عِشرِينَ ألفَ دِرْهَمٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ، وَألفي رَطلٍ مِنَ الفِضَّةِ، وَسَبعَةً وَسِتِّينَ ثَوْباً لِلكَهَنَةِ.

And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand drams of gold and two thousand pounds of silver and sixty-seven priests’ garments.

73 و َأقامَ الكَهَنَةُ وَاللّاوِيُّونَ وَبَعضُ الشَّعبِ فِي مُدُنِهِمْ مَعَ المُغَنِّينَ وَحُرّاسِ الأبْوابِ وَخُدّامِ الهَيْكَلِ. وَسَكَنَ جَمِيعُ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ فِي مُدُنِهِمْ. فَفِي الشَهْرِ السَّابِعِ مِنَ السَّنَةِ، كانَ قَدِ اسْتَقَرَّ جَمِيعُ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ فِي مُدُنِهِمْ.

So the priests and the Levites and the porters and the singers and those of the people and the Nethinims and all Israel dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the sons of Israel were in their cities.
