1 A Psalm of David, in his being in the wilderness of Judah. O God, Thou my God, earnestly do I seek Thee, Thirsted for Thee hath my soul, Longed for Thee hath my flesh, In a land dry and weary, without waters.

(Ein Psalm Davids, da er war in der Wüste Juda.) Gott, du bist mein Gott; frühe wache ich zu dir. Es dürstet meine Seele nach dir; mein Fleisch verlangt nach dir in einem trockenen und dürren Land, wo kein Wasser ist.

2 S o in the sanctuary I have seen Thee, To behold Thy strength and Thine honour.

Daselbst sehe ich nach dir in deinem Heiligtum, wollte gerne schauen deine Macht und Ehre.

3 B ecause better Thy kindness than life, My lips do praise Thee.

Denn deine Güte ist besser denn Leben; meine Lippen preisen dich.

4 S o I bless Thee in my life, in Thy name I lift up my hands.

Daselbst wollte ich dich gerne loben mein Leben lang und meine Hände in deinem Namen aufheben.

5 A s milk and fatness is my soul satisfied, And singing lips doth my mouth praise.

Das wäre meines Herzens Freude und Wonne, wenn ich dich mit fröhlichem Munde loben sollte.

6 I f I have remembered Thee on my couch, In the watches -- I meditate on Thee.

Wenn ich mich zu Bette lege, so denke ich an dich; wenn ich erwache, so rede ich von dir.

7 F or Thou hast been a help to me, And in the shadow of Thy wings I sing.

Denn du bist mein Helfer, und unter dem Schatten deiner Flügel frohlocke ich.

8 C leaved hath my soul after Thee, On me hath Thy right hand taken hold.

Meine Seele hanget dir an; deine rechte Hand erhält mich.

9 A nd they who for desolation seek my soul, Go in to the lower parts of the earth.

Sie aber stehen nach meiner Seele, mich zu überfallen; sie werden unter die Erde hinunterfahren.

10 T hey cause him to run on the edge of the sword, A portion for foxes they are.

Sie werden ins Schwert fallen und den Füchsen zuteil werden.

11 A nd the king doth rejoice in God, Boast himself doth every one swearing by Him, But stopped is the mouth of those speaking lies!

Aber der König freut sich in Gott. Wer bei ihm schwört, wird gerühmt werden; denn die Lügenmäuler sollen verstopft werden.
