1 A nd we make known to you, brethren, the grace of God, that hath been given in the assemblies of Macedonia,

Ich tue euch kund, liebe Brüder, die Gnade Gottes, die in den Gemeinden in Mazedonien gegeben ist.

2 b ecause in much trial of tribulation the abundance of their joy, and their deep poverty, did abound to the riches of their liberality;

Denn ihre Freude war überschwenglich, da sie durch viel Trübsal bewährt wurden; und wiewohl sie sehr arm sind, haben sie doch reichlich gegeben in aller Einfalt.

3 b ecause, according to power, I testify, and above power, they were willing of themselves,

Denn nach allem Vermögen (das bezeuge ich) und über Vermögen waren sie willig

4 w ith much entreaty calling on us to receive the favour and the fellowship of the ministration to the saints,

und baten uns mit vielem Zureden, daß wir aufnähmen die Wohltat und Gemeinschaft der Handreichung, die da geschieht den Heiligen;

5 a nd not according as we expected, but themselves they did give first to the Lord, and to us, through the will of God,

und nicht, wie wir hofften, sondern sie ergaben sich selbst, zuerst dem HERRN und darnach uns, durch den Willen Gottes,

6 s o that we exhorted Titus, that, according as he did begin before, so also he may finish to you also this favour,

daß wir mußten Titus ermahnen, auf daß er, wie er zuvor angefangen hatte, also auch unter euch solche Wohltat ausrichtete.

7 b ut even as in every thing ye do abound, in faith, and word, and knowledge, and all diligence, and in your love to us, that also in this grace ye may abound;

Aber gleichwie ihr in allen Stücken reich seid, im Glauben und im Wort und in der Erkenntnis und in allerlei Fleiß und in eurer Liebe zu uns, also schaffet, daß ihr auch in dieser Wohltat reich seid.

8 n ot according to command do I speak, but because of the diligence of others, and of your love proving the genuineness,

Nicht sage ich, daß ich etwas gebiete; sondern, dieweil andere so fleißig sind, versuche ich auch eure Liebe, ob sie rechter Art sei.

9 f or ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that because of you he became poor -- being rich, that ye by that poverty may become rich.

Denn ihr wisset die Gnade unsers HERRN Jesu Christi, daß, ob er wohl reich ist, ward er doch arm um euretwillen, auf daß ihr durch seine Armut reich würdet.

10 a nd an opinion in this do I give: for this to you expedient, who not only to do, but also to will, did begin before -- a year ago,

Und meine Meinung hierin gebe ich; denn solches ist euch nützlich, die ihr angefangen habt vom vorigen Jahre her nicht allein das Tun, sondern auch das Wollen;

11 a nd now also finish doing, that even as the readiness of the will, so also the finishing, out of that which ye have,

nun aber vollbringet auch das Tun, auf daß, gleichwie da ist ein geneigtes Gemüt, zu wollen, so sei auch da ein geneigtes Gemüt, zu tun von dem, was ihr habt.

12 f or if the willing mind is present, according to that which any one may have it is well-accepted, not according to that which he hath not;

Denn so einer willig ist, so ist er angenehm, nach dem er hat, nicht nach dem er nicht hat.

13 f or not that for others release, and ye pressured,

Nicht geschieht das in der Meinung, daß die andern Ruhe haben, und ihr Trübsal, sondern daß es gleich sei.

14 b ut by equality, at the present time your abundance -- for their want, that also their abundance may be for your want, that there may be equality,

So diene euer Überfluß ihrem Mangel diese teure Zeit lang, auf daß auch ihr Überfluß hernach diene eurem Mangel und ein Ausgleich geschehe;

15 a ccording as it hath been written, `He who much, had nothing over; and he who little, had no lack.'

wie geschrieben steht: "Der viel sammelte, hatte nicht Überfluß, der wenig sammelte, hatte nicht Mangel."

16 A nd thanks to God, who is putting the same diligence for you in the heart of Titus,

Gott aber sei Dank, der solchen Eifer für euch gegeben hat in das Herz des Titus.

17 b ecause indeed the exhortation he accepted, and being more diligent, of his own accord he went forth unto you,

Denn er nahm zwar die Ermahnung an; aber dieweil er fleißig war, ist er von selber zu euch gereist.

18 a nd we sent with him the brother, whose praise in the good news through all the assemblies,

Wir haben aber einen Bruder mit ihm gesandt, der das Lob hat am Evangelium durch alle Gemeinden.

19 a nd not only so, but who was also appointed by vote by the assemblies, our fellow-traveller, with this favour that is ministered by us, unto the glory of the same Lord, and your willing mind;

Nicht allein aber das, sondern er ist auch verordnet von den Gemeinden zum Gefährten unsrer Fahrt in dieser Wohltat, welche durch uns ausgerichtet wird dem HERRN zu Ehren und zum Preis eures guten Willens.

20 a voiding this, lest any one may blame us in this abundance that is ministered by us,

Also verhüten wir, daß uns nicht jemand übel nachreden möge solcher reichen Steuer halben, die durch uns ausgerichtet wird;

21 p roviding right things, not only before the Lord, but also before men;

und sehen darauf, daß es redlich zugehe, nicht allein vor dem HERRN sondern auch vor den Menschen.

22 a nd we sent with them our brother, whom we proved in many things many times being diligent, and now much more diligent, by the great confidence that is toward you,

Auch haben wir mit ihnen gesandt unsern Bruder, den wir oft erfunden haben in vielen Stücken, daß er fleißig sei, nun aber viel fleißiger.

23 w hether -- about Titus -- my partner and towards you fellow-worker, whether -- our brethren, apostles of assemblies -- glory of Christ;

Und wir sind großer Zuversicht zu euch, es sei des Titus halben, welcher mein Geselle und Gehilfe unter euch ist, oder unsrer Brüder halben, welche Boten sind der Gemeinden und eine Ehre Christi.

24 t he shewing therefore of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf, to them shew ye, even in the face of the assemblies.

Erzeiget nun die Beweisung eurer Liebe und unsers Rühmens von euch an diesen auch öffentlich vor den Gemeinden!
