1 E phraim is enjoying wind, And is pursuing an east wind, All the day lying and spoiling he multiplieth, And a covenant with Asshur they make, And oil to Egypt is carried.

Ephraim weidet sich am Winde und läuft dem Ostwind nach und macht täglich der Abgötterei und des Schadens mehr; sie machen mit Assur einen Bund und bringen Balsam nach Ägypten.

2 A nd a controversy hath Jehovah with Judah, To lay a charge on Jacob according to his ways, According to his doings He returneth to him.

Darum wird der HERR mit Juda rechten und Jakob heimsuchen nach seinem Wesen und ihm vergelten nach seinem Verdienst.

3 I n the womb he took his brother by the heel, And by his strength he was a prince with God,

Er hat in Mutterleibe seinen Bruder an der Ferse gehalten, und in seiner Kraft hat er mit Gott gekämpft.

4 Y ea, he is a prince unto the Messenger, And he overcometh weeping, And he maketh supplication to Him, At Bethel He doth find him, And there He doth speak with us,

Er kämpfte mit dem Engel und siegte, denn er weinte und bat ihn; auch hat er ihn ja zu Beth-El gefunden, und daselbst hat er mit uns geredet.

5 E ven Jehovah, God of the Hosts, Jehovah His memorial.

Aber der HERR ist der Gott Zebaoth; HERR ist sein Name.

6 A nd thou, through thy God, dost turn, Kindness and judgment keep thou, And wait on thy God continually.

So bekehre dich nun zu deinem Gott, und halte Barmherzigkeit und Recht und hoffe stets auf deinen Gott.

7 C anaan! in his hand balances of deceit! To oppress he hath loved.

Aber Kanaan hat eine falsche Waage in seiner Hand und betrügt gern.

8 A nd Ephraim saith: `Surely I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself, All my labours -- they find not against me iniquity that sin.'

Und Ephraim spricht: Ich bin reich, ich habe genug; man wird in aller meiner Arbeit keine Missetat finden, die Sünde sei.

9 A nd I -- Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt, Again do I turn thee back into tents, As in the days of the appointed time.

Ich aber, der HERR, bin dein Gott aus Ägyptenland her, und der dich noch in den Hütten wohnen läßt, wie man zur Festzeit pflegt,

10 A nd I have spoken unto the prophets, And I have multiplied vision, And by the hand of the prophets I use similes.

und rede zu den Propheten; und ich bin's, der so viel Weissagung gibt und durch die Propheten sich anzeigt.

11 S urely Gilead iniquity, Only, vanity they have been, In Gilead bullocks they have sacrificed, Also their altars as heaps, on the furrows of a field.

In Gilead ist Abgötterei, darum werden sie zunichte; und in Gilgal opfern sie Ochsen, darum sollen ihre Altäre werden wie die Steinhaufen an den Furchen im Felde.

12 A nd Jacob doth flee to the country of Aram, And Israel doth serve for a wife, Yea, for a wife he hath kept watch.

Jakob mußte fliehen in das Land Syrien, und Israel mußte um ein Weib dienen, und um ein Weib mußte er hüten.

13 A nd by a prophet hath Jehovah brought up Israel out of Egypt, And by a prophet it hath been watched.

Aber hernach führte der HERR Israel aus Ägypten durch einen Propheten und ließ ihn hüten durch einen Propheten.

14 E phraim hath provoked most bitterly, And his blood on himself he leaveth, And his reproach turn back to him doth his Lord!

Nun aber erzürnt ihn Ephraim durch seine Götzen; darum wird ihr Blut über sie kommen, und ihr HERR wird ihnen vergelten ihre Schmach, die sie ihm antun.
